Chapter 92 - 91. Spreading Advice
Chapter 92: Chapter 91. Spreading Advice
As they walked away from the third daughter, Hajin glanced at his master, who was sipping her mocktail while continuing to look around, seeing who else was there and spots to be avoided so she wouldn’t have to interact with annoying people.
"My Master is so soft, giving out advice for free," Hajin muttered as they moved closer to the patio so they could have a bit of fresh air.
"Adults have a responsibility to guide minors," Sarah said with a shrug. "But if they still can’t heed the warning, it’s no longer my business."
"Still very soft."
"Shut up."
Sarah twisted the bodyguard’s side, prompting Hajin to laugh. But his smile retracted immediately when they heard approaching footsteps, returning to his role as a forced attendant. Sarah glanced behind and chuckled. "Oh, it’s just Daniel."
"This is kind of weird," Daniel stopped and stroked his chin as he observed the turning couple’s face; the somber expression of the bodyguard, and the cheery, flirty mannerism of the girl. "It’s like you were playing that childhood game when you do the opposite of what you usually do."
Hajin managed to hide his scoff, but he couldn’t hold back from making a twisted expression. Well, if it came down to it, Daniel was his biggest source of inferiority. If Sarah didn’t meet him first, she might have used Daniel instead; faking a relationship to help her in her revenge.
Certainly, it was a better option than pretending to be Mason’s bitch.
Once again, Sarah had to pat her puppy to reassure him.
"Let’s just say we’re roleplaying," Sarah let out a crisp giggle, as if they were having a merry conversation. As expected, people’s eyes would always follow the host--or at least the host’s successor. She tilted her head to look behind Daniel, which was empty, and asked curiously. "No plus one?"
The Mirae’s Prince, the most eligible bachelor in the country, shrugged. "Doesn’t feel fair to bring one."
"Cheeky," Sarah scoffed.
But then again, he had the right to say it. Whoever Daniel took as a plus one would be a target of scrutiny and envy, unless it was already decided that they would marry each other. As someone who was rumored as Daniel’s intimate friend, Sarah was also subjected to those gazes. She just didn’t care since the rumor was good for her regardless.
"What about the date you abandon?" Daniel arched his brow and smirked.
Sarah was pretty impressed that something like that even reached his ears--which meant it had been circulated around the society. Glancing at where she was coming from before, Sarah could guess who deliberately spread the news.
She looked around then, musing curiously. "Was he even here?"
"He’s not the successor, so I guess not? I don’t see his name on the list," Daniel shrugged. "Who cares? I’m just here as a courier. Hyungnim told me to tell you that you’re not allowed to go home before seeing him."
Sarah narrowed her eyes. "Whatever for?"
"How should I know?" Daniel threw his hands. "Anyway, I deliver the message so my job is done."
He gave her another wink and patted the bodyguard just to rile the man up a little bit, before scurrying away while laughing when Hajin let out a suspicious growling sound deep from his throat--looking like a naughty boy poking a feral dog.
"Behave, puppy," Sarah strokes the man’s cheek--not only to put him back in his role, but also to look flirty. She even took her time to fix Hajin’s hair and played with his collar, using a sultry tone to say the bodyguard’s petname.
And while Hajin knew it was all part of the act, he was still happy enough to erase Daniel away from his memory. Thankfully, it didn’t make his face go loose and grinning like a goofy dog. After all, someone else approached his busy master.
"Master, the Chairman is here," Hajin leaned down and whispered above Sarah’s ear.
Sarah turned around, and her eyes met her father, who brazenly came with a young woman only a couple of years older than Amber. She was undeniably beautiful, perhaps used to be a contestant in a beauty pageant that HS Group sponsored. That was also how the chairman met his third wife.
Seemed like some things never changed.
Ah.
Since she was already going around doing it, might as well give out another one.
Sarah curled her eyes and lips, making Hajin wonder what that pretty little head planned this time.
Even the chairman almost flinched at his daughter’s smile. "So you come," he said.
"So I do," Sarah replied cheerfully.
"Did the heir of Mirae give you one?" the chairman glanced at Daniel, who wasn’t very far from them. It seemed like he came over to Sarah because he saw the girl talking to the Mirae’s heir, despite the prediction that their relationship would deteriorate.
"Don’t you like that?" Sarah smiled deeper, although her eyes contained nothing but disgust.
She could see it clearly in the old man’s eyes, the thought that she was finally useful again. More useful than she was on that golfing day.
"Well, I’d rather you get together with that boy instead of the other one--who was it? The one you have a blind date with."
"I know," Sarah let all of her anger morph into a blinding smile. "And, Miss--" her gaze shifted toward the mistress, who had been eyeing Hajin since who knows when, and snapped her fingers in front of her face. Both her voice and her eyes turned sharp, with a real displeasure she did not need to fake. "This one is taken already, so please mind your eyes, okay?"
"W-what?"
The woman flinched, laughing nervously while stroking the chairman’s arm and shaking her head, as if the notion of her ogling other, younger men was ridiculous. Hajin, meanwhile, widened his eyes slightly. As someone who knew the difference between her acting and her genuine expression, Hajin could tell that Sarah wasn’t fully acting with that last statement, and his mask almost dropped.
"You shouldn’t do that, Miss. The chairman is rather fickle, so you’ll bore him if you copy him and oggled random hot guy," Sarah added with a giggle, pinching the inside of Hajin’s elbow to prevent the bodyguard from grinning.
The chairman sighed. "Sarah, don’t bully her."
"What do you mean bully?" Sarah pursed her lips before turning toward the mistress again. "I was only giving advice--you’re not offended, are you?"
The woman flinched again and stuttered while shaking her head. "O-oh, n-no?"
Hmm...seemed like this one was meeker than Mina. Sarah thought she had to give the mistress more push.
"See? Oh, I like this one, Chairman. Looks rather mild, unlike your previous one--too bitchy, if you catch my drift," Sarah laughed softly. "Anyway, how long had you been with him, Miss?"
"H-huh?"
"Sarah--"
"Eight...nine months? Oh, it’s basically almost a year, isn’t it? That’s quite a record," Sarah clapped her hands once, not letting her father cut her.
The chairman sighed again, seemingly giving up. Perhaps he thought it was better to let her mouth run wild than have her embarrassingly throw a tantrum in the middle of a high-society event.
What if she threw another vase here? Each one of them was done by famous artists.
"But...how weird," Sarah tilted her head, tapping her lower lip as she pretended to muse about. "I thought you’d already moving in if you managed to survive him that long..."
The mistress blinked in confusion, and the chairman’s hand flew to his temple.
"I mean, that woman moved in after only...what--six months? Come on, girl--" Sarah slapped the mistress’s forearm while laughing. "You need to step up your game! Get pregnant or something and move into the mansion!"
"Sarah," the chairman spoke sharply. This time, it was a real warning.
"Oops--did I say too much?" Sarah giggled, snatching Hajin’s arm and hugging it while half-hiding herself behind the bodyguard. "Anyway, nice to meet you, Miss. Maybe we can see each other again in the future--I’m staying in the annex, by the way!"
Quickly, she pulled Hajin away while waving naughtily to the chairman and the mistress. It was a storm-like encounter that the chairman couldn’t even comment about her clothes and hair, and just let her away before it turned into a full-blown family feud.
Sarah laughed while they were surfing between people and tables, snatching more mocktails and canapes. This laugh too, was a genuine one. "You look like you’re having fun, Master."
"Isn’t it fun if there are more people in that house?" Sarah winked at the bodyguard, who had to hold himself back from leaning down and kissing those mischievous lips. "It will be fun if that new woman toughens up and storms the house just like Mina did in the past."
"Will you let one of them use the annex, then?" Hajin tilted his head.
Sarah put a canape into her mouth and shrugged. "If that will make things more chaotic, I’ll gladly do so."
The annex did contain some memory of her mother, but if it came down to it, there was not much. Her mother only stayed there for a few months until she asked for a divorce, so...
If anything, Sarah couldn’t wait for the day she could finalize her business in that house and left the mansion so she could reclaim her mother’s apartment. In the end.
"Maybe you should nudge her some more," Hajin said.
"Yeah, but it can’t come from me--that’ll be too obvious," Sarah patted her lips with a straw. "Do you know a good lady scammer?"
"No," Hajin narrowed his eyes. "But the manager might."
"Right," Sarah snapped her fingers. Oh, Sol would love this. The man loved drama to balance his other, more violent-prone job.
She clanked her glass with Hajin’s, enjoying the refreshment after hours of styling and shopping with no food. She had to ask the bodyguard for a nice ramyeon--the real one--once they were back home. Oh, imagining eating msg after all of this was as fun as giving advice around!
But of course, the fun time had its end.
"Sarah," a low voice, sounded annoyed, called out from behind them.
Sighing inwardly, Sarah turned around to be greeted by Mason’s frowning brows.
