Chapter 90: Chapter 89. All That Glitters Bring Tension

The first step to take when you set foot on a battlefield was to don an armor.

"Ugh..." Sarah groaned after enduring hours of stings and itchiness assaulting her scalp. "Did I choose this willingly because I subconsciously wanted to avoid using my head?"

Sarah just lamented the fact that armor could sometimes hurt the wearer.

After several days of process, including consultation and a request for a private room in a new place that Sua introduced to her, Sarah finally donned her new helm.

Well, half of it.

She still needed to style it for the event they had to attend that night, but the most painful process had passed, at least.

Hajin chuckled from the side. "It’s good to stop thinking too hard sometimes, Master. Your head also needs a rest."

"This is not resting, though?" Sarah gave the man a stink eye. "My scalp is going through a battle."

The hairstylist calmly went through her new hair, silently, as if oblivious to the banter between them. This was why Sarah paid extra to get a private room in this establishment, where Sua vouched to keep any secrets well. By using Sua’s name--the heiress candidate for Steel Star--to make a reservation, the place knew better than to cross Sarah.

Hajin, who had been listening to the girl’s whine for days now, observed the shine on her while leaning against the vanity table. Light, like a diluted strawberry milk, and definitely demanding attention. Especially among the wealthy, who usually choose to have a more natural-looking color for their hair.

But that was exactly what they wanted to do--stealing attention and making the family mad.

Perhaps because she had a fair complexion, the color didn’t look so weird on her. "Are you going to keep coloring it?" Hajin asked.

Sarah glanced at the man’s expression. For some reason, he looked disappointed. Did it look bad on her? The hairstylist said it looked nice, but then again, she was a paid employee.

Sarah narrowed her eyes and asked. "Why?"

"I rather like your black hair," the bodyguard muttered.

Sarah squinted her eyes even more. "Why?"

"Because it’s the color you had when we first met," Hajin smiled, the grey eyes glowed in a soft light.

Sarah pressed her lips and shifted her gaze elsewhere. "Don’t flirt."

"I didn’t," Hajin tilted his head, lips curling at the tinge of red hidden beneath the strawberry strands. "But I’m glad it gives you some fluster."

That rewarded Hajin with a kick on the shin, but the man simply laughed it off, enjoying the annoyed expression that, for him, was much better than her quiet, moping gaze.

"What about my hair?" he asked cheekily, tilting his head in front of the mirror so Sarah couldn’t help but look at him. "Do you like it?"

While waiting for her, Hajin had also received some treatment. Nothing much, just a bit of trimming to make him look neater. The stylist had fixed his hair, and anyone looking would think he was an actor about to attend an award show.

If she had to be honest, Sarah preffered his slightly rugged look more, when he was in the arena or fresh from beating people. But...this kind of look once in a while was not bad.

Mm. It wasn’t bad at all.

"We’re here to make ourselves look nice," Sarah said dismissively. "Wouldn’t it be a failure if I didn’t like it?"

"Aww, Master~" Hajin let out a playful sigh. "You can just humor me and say it nicely."

Sarah rolled her eyes and looked away. "Does it matter? You’re already plenty handsome daily."

Hajin blinked and felt his tongue lose its power. "...oh, I’m blushing," he muttered.

"Don’t spout lies that sound like mockery--it’s gross!"

"No, I really am," Hajin insisted, holding the girl’s chin so she could turn toward him. "Look."

And he was telling the truth. Sarah could see a reddish hue spreading across the handsome visage. Not as much, but almost like the night they slept together.

"Huh..."

Hajin laughed and took her hand, kissing it in delight. "The things you do to me, my adorable master," he whispered with a twinkling in his stormy eyes.

Sarah pulled her hand and flicked the bodyguard’s forehead, careful not to mess the styled hair. "Your charming point lowered drastically if you open your mouth, so shut up for now."

"Yes~"

Hajin bowed playfully and moved away to let the hairstylist do her job in peace, using his free time to do some more investigation. He seemed to be in a very good mood since they had been staying at the hotel for days, and they were more alone than ever. He even joked about how it felt like they were living together as newlyweds.

Such a delusional man.

Sarah rolled her eyes exasperatedly, thankful about this place Sua told her about. She couldn’t bear thinking about enduring the scalp torture while acting like trash still.

For the remainder of her styling, Hajin did keep his mouth shut, which made the room very peaceful--albeit lonely. In the end, Sarah stared at her reflection, her growing hair turned into a nice wave with one side tucked behind her ear and secured with a jade butterfly hairpin. She let out a sigh--at least the pain seemed to be worth it.

"Mm...you look pretty no matter what," Hajin whispered as he stood behind her, planting a soft kiss over her shoulder.

"Stop with that," Sarah pushed the man away to avoid making her face the same shade as her hair. "Let’s go get ourselves some new clothes."

"As you command, Princess."

Hajin bowed and offered his hand like a knight, although his cheeky smile was nothing like one. Sarah scoffed, but this time, she did take the hand since they would have to go out in public.

Well...not quite yet.

They moved to another private room inside a boutique so they could choose new attire for the party that night. After perusing the catalog, Sarah settled on a strapless dress with a slit up to her knee that got Hajin to narrow his eyes.

It looked black at first glance, but shimmered in dark green and deep purple beneath different lights. Golden embroidery adorned its hem, giving a slight glitter to the otherwise simple cut. The broken green jade was displayed proudly around her neck, looking more like a deliberate piece of art than a remnant of an accident.

The grey eyes followed the displayed whip of Nemesis, getting stormier with each second that passed. "Hmm..."

Sarah rolled her eyes. "What now?"

"I don’t really like this..." the man muttered, didn’t bother to hide his sulky tone.

Sarah tilted her head and returned the stormy gaze with a challenging one. "Why? You think my skin is your property now?"

"Not my property, but..." Hajin jutted his lower lip like a whining child. "Can’t it be my privilege?"

Hajin received his second forehead flick for the day. "You have seen the rest, so what’s the deal with letting others see a bit of it?"

"Well...that’s right..." Hajin said dazedly, and his lips started to form a grin. "That’s right, isn’t it?"

A third flick. Thankfully, it was never strong enough to leave a mark. "Fix your face."

Hajin pursed his lips in protest. "With you looking like this?"

Sarah tilted her head curiously. "I thought you’d been with a lot of women? You shouldn’t be affected by this kind of thing, no?"

Why did he keep acting like a boy who only knew one woman his whole life aside from his mother? Even during their first night together...

"They weren’t you?" Hajin replied as if it were the most obvious thing, opening his hands. "How can I act like I’m not interested in you while you’re looking like this?"

"Be patient and behave well," Sarah said, pulling the man closer by grabbing the tie Hajin had just tried to go with the new suit. She whispered in a low, commanding voice like a trainer to her pet. "Only a good puppy gets a treat."

Hajin took a sharp, almost stuttering breath and swallowed. "That kind of makes it worse."

Sarah let go of the tie and threw her hand in exasperation. "Oh, you’re hopeless."

Taking advantage of the proximity and the fact that the employee left them alone in the room, Hajin pulled his master’s waist toward him, as if taking revenge for his now messy tie. He whispered alluringly with a tilted head. "Can’t we do it quickly before the event?"

Sarah flinched at the slight bulge she felt pressing on her stomach, before rolling her eyes. Haa...men. Or should she say dog?

"Not after the misery my scalp went through," she hissed while slapping her perverted bodyguard away. The jolt in her stomach was not enough to sacrifice her painstakingly styled strawberry head.

"Ugh..."

"Shut up and try that one instead!"

Sarah pointed toward another three-piece suit with a gold line along its lapel to match her dress and turned the man around, shoving him back toward the changing room.

Hajin took the suit and left dejectedly, disappearing behind the changing room’s door. Only then did Sarah turn around to fan her flaming face, walking back and forth to unravel the knot in her lower abdomen.

Haa...perhaps she preffered the rugged Hajin because the groomed one was too dangerous to handle.
