Chapter 68 - 68 68 Lorcan

68: Chapter 68: Lorcan 68: Chapter 68: Lorcan Only by focusing, one can wield magic,” Rolin thought when she heard these words.

Her mind was instantly transported back to a time long before, when she first discovered her magical abilities.

For her, it was devastating news, as swift and shocking as a bolt from the blue.

Known to have short lives and an uncontrollable destructive power, magic users were seen as cursed by most.

For this reason, magic was always perceived as a curse.

Rolin, still a young girl then, was cursed in such a way.

Her parents, without any hesitation, abandoned her.

Tearfully, Rolin fled into the forest, running wildly without care until she lost her way.

She thought she would die there, but just as she was on the verge of starvation, she saw her older brother.

It was her brother, Lorcan, who saved her.

Without speaking much, Lorcan took Rolin away from their birthplace, a small village, to a nearby city.

In the city, they depended on each other, struggling for survival.

Stealing using magic became their most common way of life.

It was the only way they could survive.

Until one day, Rolin stole from the wrong person.

The individual traced her via her magic and captured her.

Lorcan instantly stepped forward to protect her like he always did.

It was at this moment that their fate changed quietly.

The man Rolin stole from was a Demon Hunter, one who lingered in the shadows hunting demons.

Only a Demon Hunter has such a capacity–to trace and find people who can wield magic.

He saw potential in Lorcan and, wanting to recruit him, not only paid a large sum of money but even gave Rolin a spellbook and advised her to study magic according to the book.

This act persuaded Lorcan to agree to the mysterious man’s conditions and decide to become a Demon Hunter.

From then on, he disappeared from Rolin’s side.

Despite her tearful pleas, Lorcan’s final words were to live on, no matter what, and wait until he returned.

This was the reason Rolin sought out Violet.

She had to survive, wait for her brother to come back, and she believed that Lorcan would return!

Unbeknownst to Rolin, Lorcan accepted the Demon Hunter’s offer because he found out that a demon’s heart could resist the erosion of magic and prolong life.

Rolin was completely oblivious as Lorcan kept it all hidden.

Lorcan knew that if she found out about this, she would stop him at once.

But for her sake, Lorcan had no choice but to proceed.

Perhaps it was the irony of fate or a mere coincidence, as Violet prepared to explore these profound underworld realms, Lorcan was in one such tunnel at the moment.

After advising Rolin to relax, Violet directed the Undead to lead the way.

Rolin did not need to aid in cleansing the castle; she merely had to stand by and watch everything unfold.

Violet’s actions were also a type of experiment, a preparation for when she showcased the power of the holy light to more people in the future.

The Undead marched stiffly into the darkness, the two women oblivious to what lay ahead.

The dark corridors held endless mysteries.

Light could only pass through but never illuminate these areas fully.

Here, it was eternal night.

In the everlasting darkness, fierce and bloodthirsty monsters always lurked, yearning to drink the fresh blood of anyone unfortunate enough to wander into the darkness.

Typically, such conditions would inevitably lead to death.

A long, drawn-out sigh echoed through the darkness, Lorcan had lost count of times he had sighed.

Shaking off the blood from his blade, he picked up the torch he dropped on the ground.

During the recent combat, he had dropped the torch.

The faint orange flame of the fallen torch flickered, its feeble light barely illuminating the surrounding area.

The walls around him, adorned with exquisite murals, shimmered under the light of the flames, as if stars were embedded within the stone.

Lorcan held up the torch, examining the patterns on the wall.

Sheathing his weapon, he reached out to touch the surface.

The material felt cold and rough under his fingertips but combined with the light emitted from it, Lorcan concluded that this was a stone of a very rare type.

The dim torch light masked the stones’ true form.

Despite not getting a good look, Lorcan had a pretty good guess about their type, wrinkling his brows.

This was a very expensive type of stone, and it was peculiar that it appeared here underground.

Under the sunlight, the stone would reflect a pure and sacred luster.

But in contrast to this sacred sheen, the carvings on the stone were rather unsettling.

The carvings- of tentacles and corpses – seemed to depict a certain ritual summoning an evil entity, where countless people were portrayed dying in agony.

Lorcan’s gaze flickered.

He meant to continue observing, but a noise disturbed him.

The sound of footsteps echoed within the dark corridor.

He quickly turned around, his back against the wall, to avoid being attacked from both sides.

Once more, he drew his sword.

In the dim light of the torch, a body of a monster lay at his feet, a monster he had just slain inside the dark corridor.

The footstep noises were coming from a distance, gradually drawing near.

The sounds were light, nothing like the dull noises demons made.

Was it a new type of creature?

Lorcan wondered, taking a deep breath to calm himself, and held his breath in anticipation.

At that moment, a skeletal figure holding a spear and a shield under a pale light ascended the stairs slowly.

What was strange was the pure light that seemed to illuminate it.

Had the creatures of the dark stooped to such holy deception?

Or was it so powerful?

Either way, it was not to be underestimated.

In this tense moment, Lorcan instinctively held his breath, ready to defend himself and counterattack.

If this undead dared to attack him, he would not hesitate to strike and kill it.
