Bound to the Triplet Alphas -
Chapter 103: The Journey Begins
Chapter 103: Chapter 103: The Journey Begins
ARIA POV
"Duck!" I shouted, pushing Mira down as a strange dart whizzed over our heads. It hit the wall behind us with a hiss, releasing a cloud of silver mist.
All around us, chaos erupted as Silas’s forces pushed deeper into our land. The humans with him carried weapons I’d never seen before—guns that fired darts filled with a substance that made werewolves fall instantly.
"We need to get the triplets to the safe room," I told Mira, my heart pounding as I thought of my kids. "Now!"
We raced through the halls, avoiding panicked pack members. Outside, I could hear fighting—growls, shouts, and the odd scream when one of those darts found its target.
Kael met us at the nursery door, blood dripping from a cut above his eye.
"We’ve pushed them back at the north gate," he reported. "Jaxon and the Beta squad are holding the east. Lucien is treating the wounded in the middle hall."
I nodded, trying to keep my fear under control as I rushed to the cribs. All three babies were awake but strangely quiet, their silver eyes watching me with unsettling awareness.
"We need to go underground," I said, picking up Luna while Mira took the boys. "The tunnels are our only chance."
An explosion shook the building. Dust rained from the roof.
"They’re not just trying to capture us," Kael said grimly. "They want to destroy everything we’ve built."
I’d made my choice before the last piece of ceiling fell.
"I have to find the other silver-eyed wolves," I said. "It’s the only way to stop this. To protect our children."
Kael’s face hardened. "You’re not going alone."
"I’m not," I agreed. "But you can’t come either. The pack needs you here."
Before he could argue, I rushed from the room, headed for the council chamber where Elder Malin waited. He’d been preparing for this since my vision, collecting maps and supplies.
"It’s time," I told him as I burst through the door with Luna in my arms. "We need to go now."
The old wolf nodded seriously. "Everything is ready."
Jaxon entered next, his clothes torn and bloody. "The east gate is lost. They’re pouring in."
"And Silas?" I asked.
"Hanging back," Jaxon spat. "Watching. Like he’s enjoying this."
Another blast, closer this time. The walls shook.
"We have minutes, not hours," Elder Malin warned.
"I know." I turned to my mates. "I need you to listen carefully. Kael, you’re staying here with half our troops. Defend the area as long as you can, then retreat to the mountains if necessary."
He started to argue, but I cut him off. "Jaxon, you’ll take the other half of our fighters and the most vulnerable pack members through the southern escape caves. Get them to safety at the White Pine Pack’s territory."
"And me?" Lucien asked from the hallway, his healer’s bag slung over his shoulder.
"You’re coming with me," I said. "We’ll need a healer where we’re going."
Lucien nodded, his face grim but determined.
"Who else?" Elder Malin asked.
I looked at my childhood friend, still holding my boys. "Mira," I said. "I need someone I trust to help with the triplets."
"I’m ready," she answered without hesitation.
"And I will guide you," Elder Malin said. "The Moon Goddess has shown me the paths to follow."
The building shook again. We were out of time.
"Take only what you can carry," I ordered. "Food, water, guns. We’ll use the secret tunnel beneath the old oak."
As everyone rushed to prepare, I held Luna close, breathing in her sweet baby smell. She reached up and touched my face.
"The others are waiting," she said in that frightening adult voice.
"I know, little one," I whispered. "We’re going to find them."
Twenty minutes later, our small group gathered at the secret entrance behind the ancient oak tree. I could hear fighting getting closer—Silas’s forces pushing deeper into our area.
Saying goodbye to Kael and Jaxon was the hardest thing I’d ever done. I held them both, trying to remember their scents, their touch.
"Protect our people," I told Kael, pushing back tears.
"Find the others and come back to us," he answered, his usually cold eyes filled with emotion.
Jaxon pulled me into a fierce hug. "Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do," he said with forced humor.
"That leaves me a lot of dangerous options," I managed to joke back.
Saying goodbye to the pack members who were staying behind was almost as tough. These were my people—wolves who had trusted me to lead them into a better future. Now I was leaving them to face Silas’s anger.
"I promise I’ll come back," I told them. "With help."
As Lucien, Mira, Elder Malin and I prepared to enter the cave with my three cubs, a loud crash sounded from the main building.
"They’ve breached the central hall," a warrior reported, rushing toward us. "And Silas is asking for you by name, Luna."
My blood ran cold. "For me?"
"No," the fighter said, his eyes wide. "For your daughter."
I clutched Luna tighter. "How does he know her name?"
"The connection," Elder Malin said. "It works both ways. He’s been watching through her eyes."
Horror washed over me. All this time, when Luna’s eyes turned black, Silas had been seeing what she saw. Learning our plans. Watching our efforts.
"We go now," I said, my voice sharp with fear. "Kael, Jaxon—buy us as much time as you can."
They nodded, shifting into their wolf forms. Around them, other fighters did the same, ready to fight to protect our escape.
The tunnel was dark and narrow, causing us to move single file. I led the way with Luna, while Mira followed with the boys and Lucien brought up the rear. Elder Malin walked beside me, his old eyes somehow able to see in the darkness.
"The nearest silver-eyed wolf is three days’ journey north," he whispered. "A young woman living alone in the woods. The Moon Goddess showed me her face."
"Will she help us?" I asked.
"If you can reach her before the Shadow Division does."
We walked for hours, the sounds of fighting fading behind us. The babies, remarkably, stayed quiet, as if they knew the danger. When we finally emerged from the tunnel, we were miles from our area, in a dense forest I’d never seen before.
"We’ll rest here for a few hours," I decided, finding a sheltered place beneath a fallen tree. "Then continue north before dawn."
As the others settled, I climbed a nearby hill to look back the way we’d come. In the distance, I could see smoke rising from our house.
"I’m sorry," I whispered to the wind, hoping somehow my mates would feel my thoughts. "I’ll find a way to make this right."
As I turned to go back to our makeshift camp, something caught my eye—a flash of movement in the woods. I froze, my senses on high alert.
"Who’s there?" I called, letting my eyes shift to silver.
A figure stepped out of the shadows—a woman with long dark hair and eyes that glowed with the same silver light as mine.
"You’re the one they’re hunting," she said, her voice soft but wary. "The one they call the Silver Alpha."
"Who are you?" I ordered, ready to fight if needed.
"My name is Selene," she responded. "And I’ve been waiting for you."
She pulled back her jacket to show her swollen belly. She was pregnant—just like the woman in my vision.
"How did you find us?" I asked.
"I didn’t," she said. "He sent me."
Before I could ask who she meant, Selene’s eyes turned black—just like Luna’s did when she was connected to Silas.
"He’s watching," she whispered, fear crossing her face. "He’s in my head. In all our heads."
From behind me, I heard Luna begin to cry, a sound that quickly turned into a scream of pain.
The link between the silver-eyed wolves wasn’t bringing us together to fight Silas.
It was his way of hunting us all down.
