Chapter 99: Authority

"?!?"

Overlord Zorathar’s expression turned strange at the sight of unidentified figures emerging through a portal of darkness, their silhouettes shrouded in an ominous mist that seemed to writhe like living shadows.

From the aura some of these creatures exuded, one thing was clear.

The devils would lose. There was nothing they could do to fight these monstrosities.

And indeed, what happened shortly after confirmed Zorathar’s thoughts.

"Who is that? Could he be your secret weapon, prepared to win this clash? Have you really fallen so low? Relying on an external lifeform—"

But Zorathar’s words caught in his throat at the sight of Kael-Zoryn’s flickering figure.

"Is he really that powerful?!" he whispered imperceptibly.

However, his words were not inaudible.

The devil heard his surprised words, as if he hadn’t expected such a thing, as if he, too, was unaware of the details.

Moments later, Kael-Zoryn spoke, gazing at the Nexus Galaxy.

"You know, Zorathar... this time, karma is on our side. I had prepared numerous plans, but they don’t seem necessary..."

"...Commander Zyr-Vaelis showed great foresight."

Zorathar listened in silence while watching the Aberrations unleash chaos, their grotesque forms tearing through the battlefield with a relentless ferocity that seemed to defy reality itself.

A scowl painted his face as he shouted at the Diaphane.

"Fine, then you leave me no choice but to go all out. But I warn you, if my clan is destroyed, I’ll hunt you to the ends of the universe!"

"Save your breath, devil—" Kael-Zoryn replied swiftly. "That your clan will cease to exist is a fact.

Besides, let alone the entire universe, you won’t be able to chase me anywhere. Remember, I’ve always fled not because I’m weak, but because speed is my strength. You’d have no chance against me."

"You’re truly a worm." Zorathar glared at the Diaphane with hatred as he prepared to unleash his Authority. "You’ve always fled to avoid death, and now you claim otherwise? This time, you’ve gone too far."

"You’re pathetic. It was you devils who started this war, and now you fear the consequences?"

Overlord Zorathar didn’t respond. His face, once filled with hatred, became a mask of indifference.

Overlord Kael-Zoryn looked at him fearlessly. What the devil said was true. He had always fled, but this time he had a secret weapon.

Angering Zorathar had always been his plan, and he had succeeded.

"Nexus Authority"

The devil mentally uttered two words, and with them, his body was enveloped in a violet veil, a sign of his activated Authority.

"Radiant Authority"

At the same moment, the Diaphane mentally spoke similar words. His body was wrapped in a brilliant veil, blending with his luminous appearance.

The serious clash was about to begin.

Zorathar was known among all devils for his extraordinarily powerful Authority.

Only the devil himself knew the reason behind his monstrous strength.

It was tied to his Authority, of course.

The term Nexus referred precisely to the Nexus of his system.

He was the only one among the powerful devils to have connected to the pure power they emitted.

And when he became an Eclipse Rank, he was blessed by the Nexus itself.

His power, therefore, depended on the Nexus’s state.

Moreover, the Ebonveil clan’s Nexus was one of the largest and most powerful in the galaxy, though it hadn’t always been so.

Zorathar had managed to conceal it with a veil of darkness, masking the true nature of his Nexus.

However, Kael-Zoryn was no slouch.

Though his Authority couldn’t compete with the devil’s ever-growing, infinite power, his speed was truly his forte.

The Diaphane moved, leaving only afterimages, each action appearing as if performed simultaneously by thousands of lights identical to him.

His very body had changed consistency, rendering him impervious.

If a being without Authority tried to attack him, they couldn’t hit him, even if he stood still.

But this was true for Zorathar as well.

Only an Authority could hope to harm a creature with another Authority.

And the stronger an Authority, the more privileges it granted.

And so, their clash continued relentlessly. The devil was giving his all.

He couldn’t lose his clan.

Or rather, he couldn’t lose the source of his power, his Nexus.

But the Diaphane had other plans. He was trying to last as long as possible before his big move.

---

Meanwhile, the other clans had received news of the assault on the Ebonveil System.

In the heart of the Bloodreaver system, Lord Khar’s orbital fortress trembled.

Holographic screens displayed the chaos on Ebonveil. Diaphane ships ravaging Umbravox and strange monsters destroying everything within the system.

"What the hell is happening? How are the Diaphanes so deep in our system?!" roared Lord Khar, his fangs gleaming, his voice echoing with a primal rage that seemed to shake the fortress’s walls.

Lady Zeryth, beside him, crossed her arms. Her black flame wings twitched. "Oh? They even had the gall to ask for reinforcements, pathetic. When we needed their help, they didn’t spare us a glance; now they beg for ours." Her voice was icy.

The same was happening in the other clans. No one wanted to support the Ebonveil.

"Tch, I suppose this was Zorathar’s doing... that guy thinks himself so above us he doesn’t even consider us."

In a grand, majestic hall, several thrones surrounded a round table.

There were ten thrones, but one was destroyed.

It belonged to Zorathar.

"The power he wields has blinded him; he doesn’t even see himself as one of us anymore. To think we treated him so well..." said another figure seated at the table.

Each was a Clan Leader, an Eclipse Rank Overlord, and they managed the war against the Diaphanes.

They knew of Ebonveil’s situation, yet none intended to help.

They had to suffer. Zorathar had to pay.

But one question lingered in everyone’s minds...

What the hell were those monsters? A Diaphane secret weapon? Terrifying.

---

And so, time passed, and finally, the great day arrived.

"Master, it’s almost time! We’ll finally witness the destruction of a High-Level Planet!"

Cambela’s voice was excited as she spoke those words. Over time, she had become less timid toward the mighty Gustav.

From being terrified of his power to eagerly awaiting this moment.

"Yes, Cambela, it’s almost time," Jeremy replied with a smile on his face.

Inside the Azure ship, Jeremy and Cambela watched the battle through a massive holographic screen.

Cambela’s enthusiasm was palpable, but Jeremy, with his enigmatic smile, hid deeper thoughts.

In truth, through Azure, Jeremy could sense powerful gazes falling upon them.

Jeremy’s perception, now fused with the Azure planet, was truly too potent.

At the battle’s start, he could clearly sense two figures watching him and his creations with scrutinizing gazes.

But now, the figures observing their battle were no longer just two.

Moreover, his perception wasn’t lying.

The Nexus wasn’t as simple as it seemed.

There was something beneath it, but he wasn’t sure.

"Master, five minutes remain until Limitless Destruction. Shall we proceed as planned?"

Azure sent a mental message to Jeremy, who responded with a simple nod.

Jeremy hadn’t revealed his plan to anyone except Azure.

After all, the planet was now fused with Jeremy’s core.

"Cambela, go wait outside. You don’t want to see the explosion from a screen, do you?"

"Oh, right!" Cambela murmured, rushing toward the ship’s exit. Then, turning to Jeremy, she added, "Master, aren’t you coming?"

"I’ll be there; I just need to handle some things... you know, precautions. I wouldn’t want the explosion to disintegrate everything."

Cambela nodded and left, leaving Jeremy and Azure alone.

"You noticed it too, didn’t you? They’re watching us. I don’t like this."

"Yes, Master. It feels like they don’t want us to use Gustav. Judging by their waiting, they hope to turn his devastating power against us. They’re delusional."

"Well, how can we blame them... after all, they don’t know Gustav is just the tip of the iceberg of our assault.

Moreover, judging by the speed at which my children are destroying their forces, the most powerful devils should have already appeared. Yet, they’re waiting for something..."

"They want to catch us off guard. I wonder if the Diaphanes know about this.

From what Commander Zyr-Vaelis said, the Diaphanes brought only one Eclipse Rank to face the Ebonveil Clan Leader. Yet, I sense more than one power of that level watching us. And they’re not Diaphanes.

Are they really so foolish not to have considered this, or do they have plans in mind?"

"I think the Diaphanes know what they’re doing. After all, they would have had to face all this alone if we hadn’t intervened."

The two continued talking as time passed...

Cambela was outside Jeremy’s throne room, though not quite outside the ship.

She was in a panoramic area with windows allowing unobstructed views of the outside.

"Master, I know you’re planning something big... but you could have let me in on your plans..." the woman said, pouting, her expression a mix of frustration and longing as she gazed at the stars.

She didn’t understand why she’d been excluded and, honestly, was quite disappointed.

After all she’d done and was doing for him, did Jeremy still doubt her loyalty?

But that wasn’t the reality.

Jeremy trusted Cambela. She wasn’t the issue. The reason he’d sent her away was something else.

Something had attached itself to the devil. Jeremy didn’t know when it happened, but she had been compromised.

Sure, Jeremy could have destroyed whatever it was, but he didn’t want to alert the enemy.

They were playing in the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

And Jeremy loved playing with his enemies. He’d let them believe they were one step ahead, without revealing that everything was part of his plan.

Only a few minutes remained until Gustav’s attack began, and everyone was preparing to make their moves.
