Chapter 89: Landing Of The Diaphans

Chapter 89: Landing Of The Diaphans

Gustav vibrated. Literally.

Its metallic structure began emitting a deep, resonant hum. The cannon’s barrel rose, casting a looming shadow across the jagged terrain of Azure, while the sky itself seemed to darken, as if recoiling from the imminent display of power.

On the side of its body, several sections slid open, revealing intricate mechanisms pulsing with energy.

Ten missiles were hoisted onto the shoulders of skeletal colossi, now far more numerous than before.

The missiles were the same size as the previous one, but the runes glowing upon them carried different meanings. They were no longer designed merely to stun.

The goal was clear: to demonstrate dominance, to force the enemies into submission, and to humiliate them.

Jeremy crossed his arms, his dark eyes glinting with a predatory anticipation, a faint smirk curling his lips as he relished the chaos about to unfold. He couldn’t wait to see what would happen.

Azure gave a respectful nod. Cambela stared at the missiles like a child gazing at a new toy.

Gustav completed its loading phase.

Twelve missiles. All synchronized, their runes humming in unison, creating a low, ominous chorus that vibrated through the ground.

Then, a moment later, the barrel unleashed a deafening blast.

BOOOOOOM!

However, this shot was vastly different from the first. It wasn’t a single missile being fired—it was twelve. But none of them aimed directly at the spaceship, instead streaking through the void like comets trailing fire, their paths calculated with ruthless precision.

Each missile tore through space, tracing a perimeter around the spaceship.

Every side was bombarded, yet the spaceship remained undamaged this time, and none of its crew were stunned.

They had activated the ship’s energy shield. After all, they were unaware of the true intentions of the planet’s inhabitants.

But judging by the damage to the shield and the missiles’ trajectories, the response from the planet’s inhabitants became clear.

It wasn’t an invitation to flee—it was a demand for submission. Or rather, not an invitation, but an ultimatum.

And so, the Diaphanes, with no option but to yield, began their descent toward the planet.

...

"Ah. See?" Jeremy smiled, as a faint moving light streaked across the sky.

"They’re descending," Azure said, his tone neutral.

"Also, what the hell is that spaceship? It changes shape at will..." Jeremy added, curiosity evident.

"Oh, that’s one of the features of Diaphane spaceships. They’re a bit like their owners—fluid and shape-shifting. Hard to damage permanently," Cambela replied with a nod.

Then, raising an eyebrow, Cambela continued, her expression shifting to one of sly intrigue. "So... are they our prisoners now?"

"Hm, prisoners? Let’s see if they’re even capable of that,"

Jeremy’s expression was a mix of curiosity and cruelty toward these new entities.

Meanwhile, Gustav made several nods with its barrel, satisfied with its performance. It had succeeded in its first task assigned by Jeremy. It was elated.

The spaceship, now reformatted into a more compact, ark-like organic structure, descended slowly toward Azure.

But it didn’t land directly in front of Jeremy. After all, they didn’t know precisely where he was.

And so, the ship glided gently into a vividly colored area, filled with purple rocks, glowing crystals, and small creatures burrowing into the stone.

However, unlike the vibrant world before them, something felt lifeless.

"This world... is wrong," whispered one of the Diaphane observers.

"Despite being a world, it feels strangely... lifeless. The life here is false... the creatures inhabiting it, the nature surrounding this place... it’s wrong, to say the least," the hooded figure responded.

Meanwhile, the commander, through their perception and control, pinpointed the strongest aura.

There were countless powerful energy signatures, some stronger than others. Yet only one truly stood out, as if it didn’t belong in such a place.

"We’re close... despite being so powerful, they haven’t even reached Stellar Rank? In fact, no aura here seems to have reached Stellar Rank..."

The commander muttered those words more to themselves than to the others. It was hard to fathom how mere EX Ranks could wield such power.

After all, the commander was far stronger than a Stellar Rank.

After a few minutes of travel at moderate speed, the commander finally reached their destination.

The figure with the strongest aura was typically the leader. Otherwise, no one would dare display such a potent aura in the presence of the true leader.

That was their reasoning.

However, the moment they laid eyes on the figure, something strange stirred within them.

Fear. Panic. Vigilance.

A gaze fell upon them, instantly putting every crew member on high alert.

A figure stood at the center of a crater.

Despite its closed eyes, the figure wasn’t sleeping. It perceived everything.

The approaching ark-shaped spaceship was one of the things it sensed, yet it didn’t move. It had an order to obey.

It couldn’t defy its master.

It couldn’t—

And yet...

Something within it was awakening.

A feeling, a powerful emotion suppressed for too long.

It was murderous rage. Bloodlust. The desire to fight.

In this regard, it bore a striking resemblance to the five-headed Aberration unleashed by Jeremy during the battle against the devils a few days prior.

Yet, it was different.

"What the hell is that thing?!" one of the operators stammered, nearly tripping as they held their breath.

Though they were the only one to speak, everyone shared their thoughts.

It was one of the most terrifying beings they had ever seen.

And that was strange.

The universe was teeming with demons and exotic beasts of the most repulsive forms.

Yet the one before them could claim the top spot among the most horrifying creatures.

The crater surrounding the figure was steaming, a miasma of decay rising from the scorched earth.

Not with fire, but with flesh. Dead flesh that regenerated endlessly. Guts and internal organs intertwined with the skeletons of the defeated, painting the grayish ground a vivid red.

At the center, a monstrous figure crouched.

It possessed a single face, but countless emotions flickered across it, distorting its features as if vying for control of the body.

Despair, hatred, ecstasy, fear, euphoria...

Its body was composed of black tendons that contracted rhythmically, yet no heart was visible.

From its shoulder blades sprouted sharp bone arches, resembling crossed scythes. Its chest was splayed open like an inverted ribcage, within which a sphere of plasma slowly rotated.

"You created me to obey, master... But I wasn’t born for this. I was born to fight and destroy—" the creature’s voice was a guttural whisper, dripping with defiance, as if challenging the very heavens.

And in the instant it finished whispering those words, its eyes opened.

But within its eye sockets, there were no eyes—only darkness.

Its facial expression was one of pure euphoria, a manic grin splitting its face, revealing rows of jagged, obsidian teeth.

Around it, the sky began to tremble, as if struck by its emotions.

Witnessing this, the crew succumbed to panic.

Yet this lasted only a fleeting moment before the commander took control, unleashing their aura.

"This thing cannot be the leader. It’s merely a creature in isolation. Perhaps we’ve awakened something dangerous..."

"Commander, let me handle it. I’m good at dealing with these things," the hooded figure said without hesitation.

After all, there was a reason they hid their face beneath a hood.

Moreover, they were the only one who, gazing upon the horrifying creature, felt not fear but a sense of kinship.

"Being judged for your appearance must suck, my friend..." they whispered imperceptibly as they stepped off the spaceship.

Their feet hit the ground with a thud. Their humanoid figure seemed to reshape in real-time, stretching and molding into strange forms.

Aes-Dareth, a Diaphane commander and a true Stellar Rank, moved first.

A swift gesture.

Time around them froze long enough to summon their weapon. An ethereal lance formed from solidified thoughts. Each time it was wielded, it read and rewrote the enemy’s intentions.

After all, the Diaphanes were warriors who relied heavily on emotions and intentions.

Aes-Dareth aimed the lance at the monster. Then, flexing their arm back to gather strength, they hurled it at full speed.

The attack seemed simple, but it was no random strike. Behind it lay the intent to neutralize the monster.

At the sight of the lance, the monstrous figure let out a guttural laugh. It was one of the most euphoric moments of its existence. It lived for battle.

As the lance neared, one of its hands intercepted it, grasping the tip with its bare hand.

Then—

A mental scream rippled for kilometers.

Aes-Dareth was blasted backward, tumbling through the air as their cloak struggled to stay attached.

But the monster gave no respite.

With a leap, it obliterated the only flat area of the crater it stood upon, landing atop the Diaphane.

Aes-Dareth didn’t panic and teleported instantly to ten different locations. Each left an illusion, but the monster ignored them.

The monster had already sniffed out Aes-Dareth’s soul.

Yet it couldn’t entirely dismiss the illusions. After all, each moved freely, preparing a different attack.

And so, its bone blades erupted from its back like a deadly fan, shooting upward and striking six of the Diaphane’s illusions.

Three were obliterated without resistance, while the remaining ones charged at the monster, lances in hand.

But the horrifying figure already knew the real enemy’s position. It lunged directly at them, ignoring the other illusions.

A direct clash followed.

The lance met the claws.

Reality trembled.

The landscape quaked, the air seemed to shatter. A shockwave reached even the spaceship but was halted by the commander.

The crew sweated at the sight of the shockwave. Without their commander, they’d be dead meat by now, their ethereal forms no match for such raw power.

Their strength, after all, was only comparable to an EX Rank.
