Chapter 82: Humans Attack

Some time before Jeremy’s return, on the human side...

The two imperial consuls who had approached Jeremy due to Prish’s destructive aura returned to the human side with tired, afflicted, and resigned faces.

Their gazes were hollow, as if hope had been carved out of them with a rusted blade.

This was because, after speaking first with Jeremy and then with Cambela, they understood several things.

They were useless, expendable pawns.

But only in their ’alive’ state. Otherwise, they would be quite useful.

At first, the duo did not quite understand what Cambela meant, but after looking around, they got it.

They were literally surrounded by dead beings, so...

Their confidence in survival had just vanished.

And so, after returning to the human side and telling the others everything, the place became like a wake.

You could have heard a pin drop.

"So... are we dead? Good to know..."

"Oh, come on. Are we really going from the frying pan into the fire? First, the demon army, and now the guy who ’saved’ us wants to kill us?"

"That guy went to face a high-level monster. Let’s hope he dies—"

"It’s pointless, if he dies, that monstrous-level demon will kill us all right after... this is truly a shit situation."

The humans kept talking, until one of them voiced a bold idea.

"Listen," the voice of Erand Dulash, head of the Guild Hall, the wildest among them all, made everyone stop talking.

"Why do not we attack before he does? I mean, his intentions are clear. At this point, let’s take the initiative and strike first."

His words were not wrong, however, there was one thing to consider. They were very weak. And there were few of them left.

And judging by how those beings fought, they did not have much confidence in facing them.

As if that were not enough, the bone army was replaceable.

They had seen it— they were immortal. No matter how many times they were destroyed, they would not die.

"I understand your doubts." Erand Dulash continued, "However, you’re forgetting one thing."

This drew the attention of everyone present.

"There are not only bones in his camp. That human couple. I have not seen them fight, but if I’m not mistaken, they’re around our level. The boy seems to care about them quite a lot."

"Oh, I see!" interrupted Crev Posqu, head of the Mirage, "You’re saying we can take those two hostage... their lives for ours. Also, we just have to hold out until the Empress arrives."

"Exactly." Erand Dulash frowned at the old man in the gleaming armor. He did not like being interrupted, but the man had hit the nail on the head.

"So, are you with me?" he added, looking around at the others.

"Sure, if the alternative is death, we might as well fight and take back our freedom."

"Also—" said Lord Amabel, "We have this darkness in our favor. That guy must pay for making my grandchild cry."

The group continued talking among themselves, trying to come up with an effective plan to capture the ’human’ duo, Cambela and Aliken.

In a completely unexpected turn, one thing was certain. Now there was another group wanting to capture Cambela.

And so, with their minds made up and Jeremy still busy facing Prish, the group charged at full speed toward the bone army.

---

"What are you staring at? It’s not my fault your master did not choose you. Try to make yourselves more useful next time, got it? Otherwise, you’ll be surpassed by the new ones."

Cambela’s voice struck like a lightning bolt out of the blue.

Well, not literally. After all, the entire world had gone dark for some reason, leaving only a faint light to illuminate the area.

Cambela was talking to Leo’sol and Hero.

They had been left behind by their master, along with the entire Osseoth Legion.

Did not this mean they were on the same level?

They, two powerful generals, discarded for no reason.

They could only stare at Cambela with dissatisfaction, the sole cause of their woes.

And while the group kept joking among themselves, with Cambela admiring the potential of the Osseoth, some menacing auras moved toward them.

Everyone turned, only to see the group of nine humans rushing toward them.

None of them quite understood what they were trying to do. Did they want to have a dialogue about why they should not die and be turned into Aberrations?

But judging by their exposed and threatening auras, ready to tear everything apart, Cambela immediately understood what this was.

"Oh? What are they doing?" Despite her surprised tone, a sly smile formed on her face. A predator’s grin.

"You two, get ready. We’re going to have some fun too—"

Cambela knew. She was hoping the humans would attack their group.

After all, they had been left aside, almost discarded.

Sure, she knew it was not really like that, but their weakness was real. Their presence had become ornamental ever since Jeremy had grown stronger.

Even if Cambela was of vital importance to the boy’s plans, she never wanted to become a burden.

She intended to capture all these humans and let Jeremy take them out.

Free experience.

Leo’sol and Hero watched the humans approach with hunger.

From Cambela’s words, they understood what they had to do.

Unleash themselves.

Leo’sol, with his rather limited intelligence, did not worry about anything and intercepted the humans.

His intentions were clear.

Plans? Tactics? Weird thoughts? All useless in front of him, an immortal being.

Well, almost.

And so, wasting no more time, he began to face a group of humans.

Specifically, his opponents were The Immutable and Crev Posqu.

The humans already had a clear plan. They had already divided the enemies they would face.

While Leo’sol began fighting the two with renewed power, stomping on them and doing everything for fun, Hero behaved differently.

Unlike the other generals, Hero had a slightly more developed mind, filled with tactical thoughts.

It could not be helped. After all, his base material was a demon. A being capable of thinking, among other things.

And this had influenced his approach methods.

His idea of battle was to use every possible resource to win in the cleanest way possible.

And that meant only one thing.

A low but powerful growl came from his mouth.

It was a signal. A signal for the Osseoth Legion to advance.

They had also become stronger, capable of facing powerful opponents like the human group before them.

In particular, their numbers were their strength.

And so, the white bone army charged at the remaining seven humans without fear.

Watching the scene, the group exchanged glances. Understanding sparkled in their eyes.

They had made numerous plans and approaches to battle. They could react to anything.

The two imperial consuls used their powers to isolate and enclose the entire skeletal army.

Their mastery and coordination were flawless.

This caught Hero off guard. He gave lots of orders to his Legion, trying to separate them and attack the two humans from afar, but nothing worked.

Their combined power, though annoying, was only at this level. They could not be considered much help, especially against enemies who could trap them like that.

"..."

Hero watched the scene with a blank expression. The Osseoth Legion was being teleported into a cube-shaped barrier.

It was embarrassing for him to witness all this. After all, he had just declared himself more intelligent than the others; he could not allow something like this to actually happen.

And so, pushed by slight anger, he hurled himself at the barrier.

But the humans could not let something like that happen.

They knew it better than anyone.

That barrier was almost indestructible... from the inside.

From the outside? Fragile. It could be easily broken. And, of course, they could not let something like that happen.

So, another one broke off from the group to defend the barrier and keep the Aberration busy.

And no, they were not overestimating themselves. They had seen Hero face a giant, super-powerful being head-on.

Their clash was still fresh in their minds.

But on the human side was Erand Dulash. He had grown up on a diet of close-call battles. He knew how to face disadvantageous matches.

He was the kind of man who’d spat in fate’s eye one too many times— and lived

And so, the four noble house Lords remained.

Lord Felicitas Amabel, Lord Andreas Forpl, Lord Xetuh Gula, Lord Vorp Victus. They commanded four natural elements: Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water respectively.

Alone they were not worth much, however, when they fought together, their power multiplied. They were truly unstoppable, perhaps the strongest among all present.

And only two people remained. Aliken and Cambela.

The four dashed toward the duo with speed.

"Oh well, this was unexpected. Sacrificing some of you for what, exactly?" Cambela said, mocking humans.

Than, Aliken prepared for battle in an instant, positioning himself in front of Cambela and using his power.

"Hellscript Synthesis."

Right after, the Codex materialized in front of the demon.

Then, several figures with strange forms materialized before him.

Aside from some creatures he could not summon because they were in Cambela’s lab, like the Mental Tyrant, there were five present figures.

Each represented a different concept.

Sure, they had enough power for one full-powered attack, or several at reduced power, but it was enough.

Enough for what?

To hold off those four until Hero and Leo’sol arrived.

After all, judging by how their battle was going, it would not take more than a few seconds.
