Chapter 88: WHY THE FUCK DID YOU SUMMON MY FAMILY?

{"Family is what you fight for, family is what you protect".}

What the hell?

The entire council hall was in utter shock. Silence hung thick in the air as everyone stared at me as if I had just performed some kind of forbidden magic.

I turned to Qadira and winked. That was all it took—she burst into laughter, the sound ringing through the hall, and was quickly joined by Aurora and Nessa. Their laughter was a sharp contrast to the heavy atmosphere, breaking the tension in a way that was almost comical.

With a push of my power, I shifted back to my normal form, rolling my shoulders as if shaking off a cloak. My gaze flickered back to Seth, who was still kneeling, his face pale.

"Tell me, Seth," I mused, my voice calm but edged with mockery, "do you think I could have survived in a Bay Shifter Pack looking like this?"

His head snapped up, and he shook it so fast I thought he might give himself whiplash. Then, as if realizing the severity of his mistake, he dropped to his knees and bowed deeply to Lord Marcel. His voice was frantic as he spoke. "I was wrong, my lord! I have failed the Coven Council!"

I snickered, crossing my arms. "Oh, stop rambling." My tone was sharp, silencing him instantly. I took a step forward, allowing my voice to carry through the hall.

"The reason the Bay Shifter Pack is in chaos isn’t because of me, it’s because someone was reckless enough to smuggle Blood Stone bugs into their lands. These parasites were implanted in their commanders and generals. Unfortunately for whoever was behind this, Alpha Tor Gale and his Lycan weren’t foolish enough to let it slide. He made the discovery and wiped out everyone involved."

Lord Marcel’s nostrils flared, his face momentarily betraying his shock before he schooled his features. His fingers tightened on the arms of his chair, but he said nothing.

I pressed on, my voice unwavering. "I trust that no one in this room will reveal my disguise, considering I successfully infiltrated the Bay Shifter Pack without detection. I am not the one who failed here."

A heavy silence followed, broken only when Elder Amon leaned forward, his voice careful. "Freyr, did you see the Blood Stone bugs yourself?"

I nodded. "Alpha Tor’s Lycan is no fool. Not only did he identify the bugs, but he also extracted them from his infected shifters. He knows that this wasn’t a coincidence. He’s investigating, and if I had to guess..." I paused, letting my words sink in before delivering the inevitable conclusion. "He will send a spy to find out exactly what Paradise Coven is up to."

A ripple of unease moved through the council. Lord Marcel’s fingers twitched, but he said nothing. Cassius, standing rigid with displeasure, clenched his jaw so tight I thought his teeth might crack.

I tilted my head, smirking slightly. "The real question now is... who in this room is responsible for those bloodstone bugs making their way into the Bay Shifter pack?" And just like that, the entire hall was thrown into chaos once more.

Cassius scoffed. "Who cares?" he cursed under his breath.

I narrowed my eyes. "Really?" I spoke up, my voice sharp and unwavering.

Before Cassius could retort, a deep growl echoed through the hall. It was Elder Aggrey, his voice laced with anger. "The Coven Council is not a child’s playground where decisions are made without consultation!" His eyes flashed dangerously. "Blood Stone bugs are forbidden—whether in Paradise Coven or Bay Shifter Pack! Whoever dared to use them has broken the sacred law."

The tension in the room crackled like a brewing storm.

Lord Marcel suddenly stood, his aura surging as he hissed loudly, his vampire powers manifesting in an oppressive wave. "I am still the Lord of the Coven!" he bellowed, his voice shaking the walls. "And I will not allow disrespect!"

I stepped forward, my irritation rising. Enough.

With a pulse of power, I pushed back against his oppressive energy. The force of it sent a ripple through the room. Gasps filled the air as Lord Marcel staggered slightly, caught off guard. Cassius, Idris, and Tio all stared at me in disbelief, their eyes wide with shock.

I didn’t stop. I let my power flow, steady and unrelenting. "Lord Marcel," I said, my voice laced with authority, "yes, you are the Lord of the Coven. But unless you want the Kayne family to interfere, to poke our noses into the Council’s business, you better be ready to explain. Now."

A heavy silence followed. Lord Marcel clenched his fists, but he didn’t dare challenge me again.

I pressed on. "I was briefed by Elder Dante that someone orchestrated an attack on Kayne lands." My gaze swept over the council, landing on each of them. "I consider this a direct attack on my family. And I bet the coward behind it knew I was away." My voice lowered, dangerous and steady. "They wanted to scare Ma."

I paused, letting the weight of my words settle. Then, with a smirk, I added, "But they forgot that Ma is a Kayne." My eyes locked onto Lord Marcel’s. "She was the former Lady of the Coven, and she is not weak."

Lord Marcel’s face betrayed his regret. He slumped slightly in his chair, rubbing his temples before muttering, "I am still investigating this matter. I’ve already assigned the council elders, along with Uncle Desmond, to investigate it."

I gave him a slow nod, then asked, "Lord Marcel, someone in Bay Shifter confessed to Alpha Tor that there’s an ancient witch with wolf powers hidden in Blood Stone Mountain. I denied it, of course, but the person seemed sure."

I let the words hang in the air, my expression carefully composed as I watched the reactions around me.

Cassius turned ghostly pale. Idris and Tio looked visibly shaken. But it was Lord Marcel who caught my attention the most, his jaw clenched, and I could practically see the battle of emotions warring within him. He was holding back an anger so fierce it made the air in the room feel heavy.

Before he could speak, Elder Armon shot to his feet, his voice thunderous. "What the hell do you mean?!"

The rest of the council erupted into chaos, voices overlapping as they demanded answers. The room was filled with heated energy, and the tension thickened.

I let them stew for a moment before continuing, "Someone is playing a dangerous game. And I have a feeling that Tor Gale is already sending shifters over. They’ll investigate every rumor, every clue nd if they uncover the truth, nothing will end well."

"Shut up!" Cassius suddenly roared; his voice frantic.

There it was. The reaction that I needed.

Before anyone could blink, I moved. In one swift motion, I grabbed Cassius by the throat, yanking him off his feet and slamming him onto the cold floor of the Coven Council Hall. The impact sent a dull thud echoing through the chamber.

Gasps filled the air, but no one moved. No one dared.

I leaned in close, my grip tightening as Cassius clawed at my hand. My voice was low, deadly. "Why are you yelling, Cassius?" I asked, tilting my head slightly. "Why are you panicking when the lives of the Coven members are at stake?"

His throat bobbed, but no words came out.

From the corner of my eye, I caught Idris and Tio shifting forward, their hands twitching as if they intended to intervene.

I snickered. "Unless you two want to end up like Cassius, I’d recommend you stay right where you are."

They froze. Good. I turned my attention back to Cassius, my fingers tightening slightly before I released him, letting him gasp for breath on the council hall floor. I crouched slightly, just enough so that only he could hear me. "I hope you weren’t the one who sent those vampires to my home, Cassius. Because if I find out it was you, no one will save you. Not Lord Marcel. Not your little allies. No one."

I straightened, dusting off my hands as if touching him had dirtied them. Then I turned my gaze to Lord Marcel.

"Lord Marcel," I said, my tone cool, but firm. "I hope that next time, you won’t summon my family over such matters. They have no idea about this mission, and frankly, I don’t understand why you dragged them into this."

His lips pressed into a thin line, but he said nothing.

I continued, "As for the Blood Stone bugs and the wolves in Blood Stone Mountain matter, I volunteer to be part of the investigation team." I let my eyes sweep over the council. "I have a feeling all of this is tied to my father’s death. And I will find out the truth and the culprit responsible. "I let my words hang in the air, letting the weight of them settle over the council like a storm cloud. Then, my voice dropped, laced with quiet fury. "And once I find out who is behind all of this..." I took a slow step forward, my gaze sweeping over the faces before me. Some looked away. Others, like Cassius, glared but said nothing. "I will not show them any mercy."

A ripple of tension passed through the room. Lord Marcel clenched his jaw, his fingers tightening on the armrest of his chair. Even Idris and Tio, usually so arrogant, seemed hesitant now.

I turned sharply and strode toward the exit. "I expect an update soon." My tone left no room for argument. "And if I find out anyone here is withholding information from me..." I paused at the door, glancing over my shoulder with a smirk. "Well. You’ll find out soon enough what happens. "

"We appreciate all your help, Freyr Kayne." Elder Aggrey nodded, and was seconded by Elder Dante and Elder Amon.

Come one and let’s go home," I beckoned Ma, Qadira, Nessa, and Aurora. They all nodded as we left, my steps echoing through the silent hall.
