Chapter 63: TRAITORS
"The sharpest wound is often made by the hand that is meant to protect you."
I closed my eyes, letting my powers expand like ripples in a pond. The night was silent except for the rhythmic breathing of my prey, vampires, about fifty of them. Their presence pulsed against my senses, chaotic and restless.
A smirk tugged at my lips. Fools.
Shifting effortlessly into my vampire form, I let the shadows drape over me like a second skin, pulling on my invisibility. They wouldn’t see me coming. With a silent exhale, I launched forward. The wind barely stirred as I moved, weaving through the trees, closing the distance between us in seconds. The first one never even knew he was dead. My blade kissed his throat, and he crumbled soundlessly. Then the next. And the next. A swift dance of death.
The scent of blood thickened the air, metallic and intoxicating. Some turned, sensing something amiss, but it was too late. My movements were fluid, precise—throats slit, bodies dropping like discarded dolls. By the time the last one gasped out his final breath, I stood amidst a massacre. A bloodbath. My boots were soaked in crimson; bodies sprawled around me in a grotesque pattern.
I exhaled slowly, taking in my handiwork. Too easy.
Circling the Kayne border one last time, I ensured there were no survivors before moving to collect the bodies. One by one, I hauled them to the Far East, dumping them in a heap like garbage. I dusted off my hands, casting a final glance at the lifeless pile I made a mental note I’ll be back to burn them to ashes"> Without another thought, I turned and made my way home, huffing in anger and knowing well Ma would sense my presence a mile away and she would be more pissed than I was.
My body buzzed with anger, and by the time I stepped into the front foyer of the house, Ma yanked the door open, her face twisted in fury. But she stopped short, her eyes widening in shock.
Behind her, Qadri, Aurora, and Nessa rushed out, each wearing the same stunned expression.
Qarida raised a hand, pointing at me with wide eyes. "Bro... why the hell do you have a golden aura around you? And—why are you floating?" She pointed at my feet.
It was only then that I realized I wasn’t on the ground. My gaze dropped to my body—covered in blood, glowing, hovering several meters above the earth. I smirked, pushing my power just enough to lower myself. Slowly, my feet touched the ground.
I exhaled sharply. "I need a shower. I’ll explain after."
Before they could react, I vanished into the house with vamp speed, Ma’s curses echoing behind me.

"Let’s all sit."
I walked over to Ma, gently pulling her down onto the couch, and the rest followed suit. Once everyone settled, I began explaining.
I had planned to stop by and bid them farewell—but before I even reached the house, I sensed intruders lurking, ready to strike. When I pushed my power outward to investigate, I realized all the vampires had been infected with the bloodstone bug. They were being controlled, radiating a killing aura, and prepared to attack the Kayne family home.
"I bet whoever sent them thought I had already left for Hanka Island," I said darkly. "That’s why they chose now to strike."
Ma cursed under her breath. Qadira shot to her feet, fists clenched, while Aurora sat frozen, her face pale. Nessa instinctively pulled her close, whispering something to calm her.
"They came for me," Aurora whispered, barely audible. Then, her voice trembled as she added, "Cassius will never let me go. He’ll come for me again."
I hissed, the very mention of his name igniting my rage. "I will never let them threaten my family. Before I leave, I’ll deal with them so they back off, at least until I return."
Ma’s sharp gaze met mine. "What exactly do you plan to do?"
I smirked. "Dump the bodies at the Coven Council Hall. Make a statement."
Her eyes gleamed with approval. "It would be better if Elder Dante and I handled it ourselves. That way, no one will know who did the killing. If they ask about you, we’ll say you have already left for your mission."
I nodded, understanding the brilliance of the plan. Keeping them anxious and in the dark about who struck first would buy me time.
"I’m concerned about how they managed to get so many vampires onto Kayne land," Qadira pointed out, her expression grim. "If you hadn’t come when you did, we’d be locked in an endless battle."
She paused, then added, "And I have a feeling we would’ve been nothing more than collateral damage because Cassius wants Aurora back."
Aurora’s entire body tensed. "I will never go back," she vowed, her voice firm with a quiet fury. Then, she pushed to her feet, her eyes dark with something between fear and resolve.
"Cassius doesn’t just want me for revenge," she continued. "It’s because of the Jade bloodline."
The room fell into a heavy silence. I could feel the weight of her words pressing down on all of us.
"One of our family’s abilities is adaptation," she explained. "My mind-link can merge with as many bloodstone bugs as necessary. That means I could control them all—tap into the powers of vampire seduction and manipulate both men and women."
Her hands curled into fists at her sides, her breathing uneven. It wasn’t just about Cassius wanting her back; he wanted to use her. Aurora took a shaky breath and continued, her voice laced with anger and something darker and filled with pain. "Cassius drugged me," she admitted, her hands trembling at her sides. "He injected the bloodstone bugs into my mind-link and kept testing them on me."
A chill ran down my spine as I listened, my fists clenching at the thought of what she had been through.
"I started losing memories," she continued, swallowing hard. "I don’t even remember where they took me... or how many times they beat me just to force the bloodstone bugs into my mind-link."
Her voice cracked, but she quickly masked the vulnerability, her shoulders straightening. "They wanted the bugs to merge with me without changing my nature, without anyone realizing I was being controlled."
Nessa exhaled sharply, gripping Aurora’s hand as if grounding her.
"She noticed first," Aurora said, turning to Nessa. "She saw the subtle shifts, the things no one else did. Cassius must have suspected something because, after that, he had us followed every single day, ensuring he never lost control over me."
Her gaze flickered to mine, determination burning behind her fear. "I was the one who told Nessa to seek help... and you were the strongest ally we could think of."
Aurora lowered her head, guilt flashing in her eyes. "I’m sorry for dragging all of you into this mess," she murmured.
Ma was quick to interject, her voice firm and unwavering. "This isn’t just about you, Aurora. This is the work of the Paradise Coven. If they’re compromising people like this, we’re all in danger. Our people would be turned into puppets."
She crossed her arms, her expression dark. "The best way forward is together. We take them head-on."
I nodded in agreement. "Exactly." Then, I turned to Qadira, my tone leaving no room for argument. "Until I come back, you and Nessa will protect Aurora at all costs."
Both women nodded, understanding the weight of my words.
"In the meantime," I continued, "Elder Dante will be here in a few hours. The Coven Council meeting is scheduled for this evening." I turned back to Ma. "You’ll brief him about the traitors who tried to attack us, and he’ll make arrangements to have the bodies transported to the council."
Ma’s eyes glinted with approval. "Good. That will send a message that no one can dare mess with us. I want to see what Lord Marcel will say or what excuse he will give this time."
"Don’t cause too much trouble, Ma," I groaned, and Qadira laughed in response.
"I have been sitting in the fence for too long, it’s time that they met the real me "Ma raised her chin as she spoke up with a glint in her eyes. " We must ensure that Lord Marcel keeps busy, this will give us enough time to cause a ruckus, buy Dante time to sneak back into Bloodstone Mountain, and give you and Tor enough time to work on the problem in Bay shifter pack, weed out the moles and get the person who is pulling the strings."
