Chapter 64: INITIAL STRIDE

{"Every great journey starts with a single step"}

TOR’S POV

A heavy silence settled over the training grounds. No one dared to speak. Their heads bowed, unease and shame radiating from them like a thick fog.

Then, General Steel stepped forward, his voice sharp with conviction. "You’ve lost your mind, Tor. Accusing the Generals without proof? That’s madness."

I smirked, unfazed by his bravado. Without breaking eye contact, I moved to stand beside Commander Steel. My voice was calm but laced with something far deadlier.

"Commander Steel," I said, tilting my head slightly. "Do you have something to confess?"

He smirked right back at me, arrogance dripping from his stance.

Wrong move.

I let out a low growl and commanded Gale, my Lycan, to rise. Power surged through me as I reached into his mind link, pushing with an unrelenting force. In mere seconds, his body convulsed, and he collapsed onto his knees, letting out a scream so raw it echoed across the training grounds.

The other Generals stumbled back in shock; their eyes wide as they watched in horror. Commander Steel gagged, his body jerking violently before he let out a loud, gut-wrenching cough. Then, one by one, the disgusting black bloodstone bugs poured out of his nose, ears, and mouth, writhing as they hit the ground.

I stepped forward, crushing each one under my boot, ensuring every parasite was destroyed. When the final one was gone, Commander Steel groaned weakly before slumping to the ground, unconscious.

The scent of fear thickened in the air.

I let my Lycan half-form take over, claws lengthening, teeth sharpening. A deep growl rumbled from my chest as I turned to the remaining Generals.

"This is your last chance," I warned, my voice low and dangerous. "Confess now, or I’ll carve the truth out of you myself."

The atmosphere shifted. The tension cracked like lightning in the air as, one by one, the Generals stepped forward. Their voices trembled as they spoke.

"We had no choice," one admitted. "General Steel convinced us that your Lycan was dangerous and that it would bring ruin to the Bays Shifter pack."

Another swallowed hard before adding, "He told us the only way to stay powerful was to use Paradise Coven’s secret weapon... the bloodstone bug."

Murmurs of agreement followed. Then, a voice rang out, stronger than the others.

"It was Elder Colbat and his daughter, Aqua." A Commander stepped forward; his fists clenched. "They were the ones who brought the bugs in."

I exhaled slowly, my claws flexing as I absorbed their words.

Elder Colbat. Aqua.

I let out a low chuckle, more annoyed than amused, before turning my gaze to Elder Colbat. "Greedy," I muttered, shaking my head. "That’s what you are. A power-hungry coward who would rather endanger the Bay Shifter Pack than lead it with honor."

Colbat’s face remained impassive, but I could see the flicker of unease in his eyes. Good.

I took a step forward, my presence filling the space. "You tricked them all," I continued, my voice hard as steel. "Convinced them that the bloodstone bug was their salvation. Yet, your mind link is pure, untouched." I let my words sink in, then added with a smirk, "If you truly believed I was the threat, why didn’t you use the bugs on yourself?"

Murmurs rippled through the gathered warriors, realization dawning on them like a bitter sunrise. They had been fooled.

I let the weight of the truth settle before taking a deep breath and unleashing my Lycan power. A rush of energy flooded the space as I drove into their mind links, forcing out every bloodstone bug with sheer dominance.

Screams of agony filled the training grounds. The generals and commanders dropped to their knees, their bodies convulsing as the parasites tore free. One by one, the bugs fell to the ground, writhing in the dirt like the filth they were.

Wave, Spark, and Deputy General Tiger moved swiftly, crushing and burning the creatures before they could scurry away. The process was brutal, lasting a full half-hour. The air smelled of sweat, blood, and something darker, fear.

When the last bug was destroyed, the commanders and generals staggered to their feet, shaken but free. As one, they bared their necks in submission, a silent acknowledgment of my power.

But my focus remained on Elder Colbat and General Steel.

Both were on their knees, heads bowed, their arms restrained by pack enforcers. They knew what was coming.

I took a slow step forward, staring down at them. My voice was measured and deliberate. "The laws of the Bay Shifter Pack are clear: all traitors are to be beheaded."

Silence. Not a single warrior dared to protest.

With a surge of speed, I moved. My claws flashed in the dim light, slicing clean through their throats. A sickening gurgle followed as they crumpled to the ground, lifeless.

A sharp inhale echoed from the enforcers, shocked, but they did not question me. The generals and commanders remained motionless, their fear a tangible presence in the air.

A moment passed before Wave barked out the order. "Take them away." The enforcers snapped into motion, dragging the bodies from the training grounds.

I watched them go, my chest rising and falling steadily

"Alpha, we need to clean up the pack," Spark asserted, stepping forward. "If the Generals and Commanders were compromised, then some pack members must have been tricked into accepting the bloodstone bug as well."

"I agree," Wave and Flora responded in unison, their voices firm with resolve.

I turned to Wave, my expression unreadable. "Lock up, Commander Steel. I have plans for him."

Wave gave a sharp nod. Two guards moved immediately, hoisting Commander Steel’s unconscious body before dragging him away. Wave followed them, his presence ensuring that the task was done without issue.

With that handled, I turned my gaze back to the remaining commanders. They stood in rigid silence, awaiting my next decree.

"Effective immediately," I announced, my voice carrying across the training grounds, "Flora Bolt will take command over the remaining commanders."

Flora’s eyes widened slightly, but she stepped forward and bowed her head in acknowledgment.

I let my gaze sweep over the assembled warriors before delivering my final decision. "Deputy General Tiger is hereby promoted to General of the Bay Shifter Pack."

A hushed murmur rippled through the ranks, but no one dared to challenge my judgment. Tiger, visibly surprised, clenched his fist and stepped forward.

"I will not fail you, Alpha." His voice was steady, his conviction clear.

"See that you don’t," I replied before glancing at the rest of the pack. "I want you to send word to the pack members and find out who has been associating with the Colbart and Steel family. Bring them over to the training ground; today, I plan to weed out every single person who has the bloodstone bug. No one is allowed to compromise the bay shifter pack."

"Yes, Alpha, "Flora and Tiger responded and left the training grounds, and I was left with Spark, the General, and the Commanders.

I stepped forward, my gaze sweeping over the gathered generals and commanders. Their postures were tense, their expressions wary.

"Generals and commanders," I began, my voice steady, commanding their attention. "As your Alpha, I must protect you. That is why I spared you. But understand this, my Lycan beast awakening does not pose a danger to the pack. It seems people fear what they do not understand."

I let my words settle before continuing. "Gale, my Lycan wolf, is not a threat. At his best, he would protect anyone who dared to harm the pack. He is not just an unknown beast—he is a part of the Bay Shifter Pack, blessed by the Moon Goddess herself."

I watched as some of them exchanged uncertain glances, still struggling with the truth.

"Instead of looking at this with fear, why not see it for what it truly is, a blessing?" My voice rang out stronger now. "The Bay Shifter Pack has a powerful leader, one who will ensure its survival. And yet, despite this gift, some of our leaders have colluded with the Paradise Bay Coven to harm our people. This is unacceptable."

Silence fell over the training grounds. The weight of my words pressed upon them like a storm rolling in.

"You were given a second chance," I reminded them. "Use it wisely and protect the pack and its members, its lands, and its values. Don’t be fooled or let anyone fool you"

"Yes, Alpha," they all responded in unison, their voices laced with respect. I gave a firm nod, signaling that I had their agreement.

I turned to face them, my gaze unwavering. "If you know of any other members of the army who are compromised, I expect you to bring them here, to the training grounds. We need to ensure that no one else falls prey to this madness. Understand?"

"Yes, Alpha," they piped, and with that, they scattered quickly, their footsteps echoing as they rushed out of the training grounds.

Behind me, I heard General Tiger’s voice, tinged with a bit of humor. "It’s going to be a long day," he said, offering me a seat at the small dais positioned in the center of the training grounds.

I huffed in response, irritation, and weariness beginning to creep in. But duty was duty. I walked over to the dais, settling myself into the seat. My legs crossed, the posture confident, as I leaned back and waited for them to return. I knew the work ahead would be grueling but it was necessary.

I remained still, my eyes scanning the surroundings, waiting for the next steps to unfold. The weight of leadership never felt heavier than in moments like this, but I would carry it without hesitation.
