Chapter 60: BOLD MOVES
Chapter 60: BOLD MOVES
{"By audacity, great fears are concealed."}
Commander Steel whistled as we approached, then let out a low chuckle.
"Alpha Tor, you’re finally back from Hanka Island," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Does anyone know what you were doing in the deep forest of Hanka Island? Or has your beast uncovered its secrets?"
His claws extended as he leaned against the jail cell wall, his eyes blazing.
Gale stirred within me, pushing urgent words through our mind link: The bloodstone mountain bugs... his mind is filled with them.
I narrowed my eyes. So, Commander Steel is a traitor, I thought. Colluding with the Paradise Coven...
I smirked. "I wonder if you’ll share Aqua’s fate, unconscious and delusional."
For a brief second, his eyes flashed, but he quickly looked away. Then, with a scoff, he retorted, "I bet your minions don’t know that Hanka Island has powers."
A sharp intake of breath came from Deputy General Tiger, Spark, and Wave. But Flora didn’t even flinch. Instead, she dismissed him with a scoff. "A bunch of nonsense."
"You have no idea," Commander Steel chuckled.
I motioned for the guards to open the cell door and stepped inside. As the metal creaked shut behind me, I walked forward, closing the distance between us. He turned in shock, and I met him toe to toe, my smirk unwavering.
Gale rose within me as I focused on Steel’s mind, searching for the infestation. To my surprise, his mind link was swarming with bloodstone bugs. Why didn’t I sense this before?
Gale answered at once: Freyr’s power masked them. That’s why we can see through it now.
I activated my Alpha aura and spoke with commanding authority. "If you want to be free, you will tell me why you met with Desmond Marcel."
Commander Steel’s nostrils flared. He opened his mouth, but no words came. His throat bobbed as he struggled, but nothing emerged. Guilt flickered across his face as he turned away.
I studied him for a moment, then gave a curt nod. Without another word, I signaled the guards to open the door.
"Commander Steel is free to go," I announced.
We left the jail, and as soon as we were far away, Flora suddenly burst into laughter, catching us all off guard.
"He’ll be shitting himself from now on," she cackled. "He was better off staying in that cell."
I chuckled, nodding in agreement. Then, bidding everyone goodnight, I headed home.
After a shower and a meal, I sat on my balcony, staring at the night. My mind drifted through the events of the day, turning over every detail until Gale stirred within me again.
Spark is at the door.
Barefoot, I walked over and yanked it open, finding him pacing restlessly outside.
"What the hell are you doing?" I demanded.
"Tor, I need your advice," Spark stated as he walked into the house without waiting for an invitation.
I raised an eyebrow. "What are you doing here? Where’s your mate?"
"Waves at home," he replied, rubbing the back of his neck. "I came to see you... I’m troubled."
I sighed and pointed to the couch. "Sit."
Spark wasted no time, flopping onto the cushions with a huff. He then launched into a ramble about how Flora had suggested he meet Elder Mercury Bolt—Elder of the Bay Shifter Pack and Wave’s mother—to formally introduce himself as Wave’s mate. But Spark wasn’t ready. He wasn’t sure that he had to offer Wave or his family.
"Our parents are gone, Tor," he muttered, eyes distant. "You’re the only family I have left... I don’t know what to bring as a gift, and I don’t want to mess this up. Will you come with me?"
A chuckle escaped my lips as I walked over, resting a firm hand on his shoulder. "Take a breather," I said. "Give me a minute."
Leaving him on the couch, I strode to my office and opened the Gale family box—a relic passed down through generations. Inside lay two rings forged in the depths of Ragar Mountain and embedded with the crystals of our ancestors. A perfect pair, one night, one moon, symbolizes balance and unity.
I returned and placed the box in Spark’s hands. His eyes widened as he carefully opened it, and when he saw the rings, his face lit up with awe.
"Take these to Wave," I told him, sitting beside him. "Present them in front of his family. These are the Gale family heirlooms. And as a gift to the Bolt family, I’ll prepare the title for the lands surrounding Ragar Mountain."
Spark swallowed hard, his eyes glistening. Then, without hesitation, he pulled me into a tight embrace.
"Thank you, brother," he murmured, voice thick with emotion. "I knew I could count on you."
"So... how did it go with you and Freyr?" Spark asked as he pulled away from the hug and leaned back against the couch.
I exhaled slowly. "As well as it can be. He’s my mate, but I can’t stop wondering how much information Commander Steel has about Hanka Island and the magic hidden there."
Spark frowned. "Why? What did you find?"
I met his gaze. "Deep in Hanka Island, there’s a secret magic chamber guarded by a dragon named Gerod. The dragon spoke to us and warned that there is an evil presence in Paradise Coven’s Bloodstone Mountain, an evil that’s colluding with members of the Bay Shifter Pack."
Spark tensed, his eyes darkening. " Oh, Tor, do you know what this means? There is so much coming our way, and we are nowhere near prepared for all this. What do you plan to do, brother? The pack is in danger, and so is the realm itself. "
I nodded. "It’s up to Freyr and me to guard the realm and protect the magic of Hanka Island. Our love will be tested. If we allow our mind link to be controlled—especially mine—it will mean doom for us all."
Spark sat in thoughtful silence for a moment, then straightened and met my gaze with unwavering resolve. "I understand. No matter what, I’ll always protect and support you."
I chuckled, patting his back. "That’s my job, Spark. I’m the one who’s supposed to protect you and the Bay Shifter Pack."
Spark nodded and stood up, ready to leave. But just as he reached the door, he hesitated. A thought seemed to cross his mind, and he turned back to face me.
"Tor... what exactly did you see in Commander Steel?" he asked, his voice laced with curiosity and concern.
I met his gaze and exhaled. "His mind link was swarming with bloodstone bugs—more than ten. His thoughts were drowning in rotten evil."
Spark’s expression hardened. "How is that even possible?"
I folded my arms. "Being mated to Freyr has heightened my powers. I see more than I ever expected... more than I probably should, and I know that this will scare the Bay shifter pack even more now. The awakening of my Lycan is already a problem, and now being mated to Freyr will cause turmoil."
A slow chuckle escaped Spark’s lips. "Tomorrow’s going to be a tough day," he mused. "I hope you show no mercy to anyone who dares to threaten the Bay Shifter Pack."
I smirked. "I never do."
He clapped my shoulder before stepping through the doorway. I watched as he disappeared into the night and closed the door behind him.
Left alone in the solace of my thoughts, I gazed out into the darkness. The weight of what was coming pressed against my chest. Tomorrow, everything would change, and I feared that the Bay Shifter pack was about to undergo a major change.
Early the next morning, we assembled at the training grounds before dawn. The Generals and Commanders were visibly shocked to find that I had arrived before them. Scrambling to compose themselves, they hurriedly bared their necks in greeting and rushed to stand in line, awaiting further instructions.
General Steel arrived soon after, with Blossom and Lily following closely behind. They stepped forward and addressed me in unison.
"Greetings, Alpha Tor." They all piped.
I gave them a curt nod before my gaze swept over the gathered ranks. "Where the hell are Commander Steel and Elder Colbat?"
A ripple of unease passed through the group as they exchanged uncertain glances. No one spoke.
I turned to Wave, who met my eyes and gave a firm nod before signaling to the enforcers. Without hesitation, they rushed off to locate the missing men.
As I waited, I pushed Gale’s power outward, scanning the minds of the assembled Commanders and Generals. Disgust curled in my gut. Every single General had been compromised—the bloodstone bugs from Paradise Coven’s Bloodstone Mountain infested their minds. Among the Commanders, only two had been tainted.
A snicker of irritation escaped me. But when I turned my focus to General Steel, Blossom, and Lily, I found something strange. They were clean—too clean. Suspiciously so. Gale stirred within me, whispering an unsettling revelation. They reek of Sagstone Mountain’s gold.
My brows furrowed. Why would they have that scent? What were they hiding?
Just then, the enforcers returned, flanking Elder Colbat and Commander Steel, both of whom wore expressions of irritation and annoyance.
I smirked, my gaze sweeping across the gathered warriors. "Now that we’re all here," I said, my voice sharp and cutting through the tense air, "explain to me how my lead Generals have been compromised, infected by the bloodstone bugs from Paradise Coven’s Bloodstone Mountain."
A heavy silence fell over the training grounds, thick and suffocating. Fear. Shock. Guilt. Disbelief. I could sense it all. And I was ready to burn through every lie they utter, ed and I would kill them all without holding back.
