Chapter 59: COMPROMISED SHIFTER ARMY

{"If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is a compromise."}

TOR’S POV

The Bay Shifter Pack had been compromised.

I arrived back in the pack land, and my senses were on high alert. Deputy General Tiger stood exactly where I had left him. When he spotted me, his eyes lit up, but his posture remained wary. Only when I was a few meters away did he relax slightly, baring his neck in greeting.

"Alpha, you’re back," he said, his voice carrying a note of relief. A small smile tugged at his lips.

I nodded, my brows furrowing. "We need an urgent meeting at the Royal Garden. Get Spark and Wave immediately."

Tiger’s expression hardened with understanding. "On it." With a quick nod, he took off at full speed, leaving a gust of wind in his wake.

I walked toward the Royal Garden, my mind racing, strategizing. The Bay Shifter Pack was a mess, and I had to fix it before everything fell apart. I stepped through the barrier, moving toward the far end of the garden, where the waterfall roared in the distance. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and blooming flowers, but my mind was elsewhere—on him.

Freyr.

I was deeply and madly in love with him. But with everything falling apart, could we make it work? When he confessed that he had told his mother about me, my heart swelled with pride. Yet, chaos lurked around every corner. The pack needed me to clean up this disaster before I could even think of being with Freyr openly.

"We need to be with him," Gale’s voice growled in my mind, rough, insistent.

"I know."

"I can feel some of his power in me," he continued. "Our reflexes are faster. Our vision sharper."

I closed my eyes as memories of our night together crashed over me. The way his lips felt against mine, the way he tasted sweet, intoxicating. Damn it. I already missed him.

I sensed their presence before I saw them—Wave, Spark, Flora, and General Tiger—as they moved through the barrier of the Royal Garden. The moment they reached me, they bared their necks in greeting.

"Welcome back, Alpha Tor," Tiger spoke first, his voice steady but tinged with tension.

I gave a curt nod. "Come, let’s sit. I need a full briefing on everything that happened in my absence."

Without hesitation, we settled into the seating area, the air heavy with anticipation. One by one, they began to speak.

General Tiger started, his tone grim. "After you left for Hanka Island, General Steel used Blossom and Jessel to stir trouble. He riled up the Generals of the Bay Shifter Army, planting discord among them."

Flora took over, her expression dark. "The commanders... they’re afraid of Elder Colbat. There’s something more going on within the ranks, but I haven’t uncovered what yet."

I turned to her sharply. "And Aqua?"

Flora responded without hesitation. "Keeping her in lockdown was the right call. She went into a complete frenzy. The only thing that kept her contained was the poisonous Asími lining the prison rails. I’ve never seen anything like it before, Alpha. She screamed like a beast possessed. Her eyes... they turned completely evil."

A deep frustration settled in my chest. I closed my eyes for a moment, letting it sink in. Then, leaning back in my chair, I snapped them open and addressed them once more.

"Freyr informed me about the bug that was planted in the shifters," I said, my voice unwavering. "It’s called the Bloodstone Bug. Its source? The Bloodstone Mountain—where the vampire coven gets its food supply, blood."

Their faces hardened at the revelation.

"Freyr and I also discussed the moles—General Steel and Desmond Marcel. He’s gone back to gather more intel, but he’ll be coming here soon. In disguise." I locked eyes with each of them. "I need the four of you to ensure that no one questions his presence. He’ll be working alongside us to root out all the compromised shifters."

A heavy silence followed, each of them processing the weight of my words. Deputy General Tiger was the first to speak. "Understood, Alpha. We’ll make sure of it."

"As for the Generals, they will assemble in the training grounds tomorrow," Spark reported, his voice steady.

Wave nodded in agreement before adding, "All enforcer guard commanders and army commanders should join the exercise as well. We need full participation."

Flora hummed in approval. "Agreed. I’ve already placed guards outside Elder Colbat’s home, and I strongly recommend keeping him as far away from the training grounds as possible tomorrow."

Tiger gave a firm nod. "I’ll double the guards and keep a close watch on him."

I exhaled slowly, weighing our next steps carefully. Then, standing, I met their gazes.

"To set an example, I’m dealing with Aqua first," I stated. "And then, I’ll free Commander Steel."

Flora’s brow furrowed slightly, but she remained silent.

"He’ll think he’s won," I continued, "but sooner or later, he’ll lead us straight to Desmond Marcel or whoever else he’s working with."

A slow smirk spread across Spark’s face. "Setting a trap... I like it. That could work."

I gave a single nod, then turned on my heel. Without another word, we left the Royal Garden, heading straight for the jail cell. The real shit was about to go down"

By the time we arrived at the royal jail, the place was eerily quiet, with only a handful of guards on duty. Their eyes widened in shock at the sight of me, and I could tell rumors had been spreading about my disappearance over the past two days. I snickered under my breath. Someone had tried to make it seem like I wasn’t coming back.

Flora took the lead, guiding me through the dimly lit corridor toward Aqua Colbat’s cell. The scent of damp stone and iron filled the air, mixing with the faint trace of something darker—anger, desperation, fear.

When I reached her cell, I found Aqua sitting in the corner. Her once-pristine appearance was gone—her hair unkempt, her usual cool and dignified composure shattered. But the moment she saw me, her eyes hardened. She stood up slowly, crossed her arms over her chest, and smirked.

"Hello, Alpha Tor," she greeted, her voice laced with sarcasm.

I leaned casually against the cell bars, tilting my head. "I heard you went on a craze, Aqua," I mused, letting my tone drip with amusement. "Never expected you to scream like a banshee."

She cursed under her breath, looking away for a moment before snapping back. "What the fuck do you want with me?"

Instead of answering, I turned to the guards and gave them a simple nod. They hesitated briefly, then unlatched the heavy iron door.

Aqua’s eyes widened in shock, and she instinctively took a step back as I stepped inside. The moment the door clanged shut behind me, sealing us both in, I saw the flicker of fear in her expression before it quickly morphed into rage. I stared at her, silent, letting the weight of my presence settle. Inside me, Gale stirred, his energy crackling, ready to strike at the first sign of weakness.

Aqua’s breathing turned shallow. Then, without warning, she let out a deafening growl and lunged straight for me.

I stood still, unfazed, as Aqua lunged toward me.

Before she could get close, Gale surged forward, pushing his power outward like an invisible force. Aqua gasped as she was thrown to the ground, her body convulsing. A piercing scream tore from her throat as her wolf surfaced, golden eyes blazing with fury.

"Submit," I commanded, my voice low but absolute.

Her screams turned into guttural growls, a mixture of pain and defiance. She struggled against the force pressing down on her, but Gale’s dominance was unyielding.

"Submit," I ordered again, this time feeling something stir deep within me—the power of the mating bond awakening in Gale. It coursed through my veins, amplifying the command.

Aqua’s eyes widened in shock. Then, as if something inside her shattered, her body jerked violently, and in the next instant, the bloodstone bugs burst from her nose, landing in grotesque clumps on the cold stone floor.

"What the hell?!" I heard Flora exclaim behind me.

Without hesitation, I turned around and moved closer, crushing the bugs under my boot. A sickening squish echoed through the cell. Dead. Gone. Aqua collapsed onto the ground, unconscious, her wolf letting out a mournful whine. I exhaled sharply and reached into the mind link, pushing my presence toward her wolf. The moment I connected with her mind link, I found her wolf, head bowed, eyes filled with relief and shame.

"Alpha," she whispered, her voice trembling, "you finally rescued me. I will submit to you and only you." Gale let out a victorious roar in response while I remained steady.

"Rest well," I told her.

She gave a small nod, and then her eyes fluttered shut, slipping into the sleep she so desperately needed. I turned on my heel and walked toward the cell door. The guards scrambled to unlock it, stepping aside as I exited.

"Now that we’ve handled this," I said, rolling my sleeves and fisted my hand, "it’s time to meet Commander Steel."
