Chapter 48: CHAOS IN THE PACK OFFICE
{"Delusions and lies are like huge, gaudy vessels, the rafters of which are rotten and worm-eaten, and those who embark in them are fated to be doomed"}
TOR’S POV
Hours before leaving for Hanka Island.
I stood at the doorway of the pack’s conference room, listening in on the heated exchange inside.
Aqua was on the floor, taken down by Wave Bolt, who stood over her, his presence crackling with raw power. His voice was sharp, cutting through the tension like a blade.
"My mate belongs to me and no one else," he declared, his eyes blazing with warning and his tone darkened. "And you," he continued, directing his words at Aqua, "should stay away from the Gale family. No matter what you were born for, your mate is not the Alpha of the Bay Shifter Pack."
A slow smirk tugged at my lips. I had never been prouder of Wave and Spark. Stepping into the conference room, I feigned ignorance, letting my gaze sweep across the tense faces before asking casually, "How come there’s a pack meeting I wasn’t informed of?" The room fell into a hushed stillness before, one by one, the pack members turned to greet me.
"Hello, Alpha Tor."
I walked over to my seat, lowering myself with deliberate ease as Elder Cobalt helped Aqua to hers. General Steel and his brother, Commander Steel, both looked guilty, their expressions stiff with unease. But the sight that truly pleased me was my brother, Spark, standing proud, chest puffed out as if he had won a battle. His confidence radiated through the room, undeniable and unshaken.
Wave, however, looked like a storm barely contained. His nostrils flared as he fought the urge to attack, his protective instincts roaring to the surface. His sister, Flora, simply smirked, clearly entertained by the chaos. General Deputy Tiger took a step forward, his admiration for Wave evident in his stance. "Wave was just clarifying," he stated, his voice steady. "That he is mated to Beta Spark."
I turned to my brother with a wide grin. "Congratulations," I boomed, my voice echoing in the silent room.
Spark flushed a deep red, rubbing the back of his neck as he muttered a soft "Thank you."
Then I turned to Wave, whose body was still coiled tight as if preparing for a fight. "Wave," I called, my tone calm but firm.
His golden eyes snapped to mine, blank for a second before his shoulders squared, and he stepped back, lowering his head slightly in deference. "What do you need, Alpha?"
I smiled at him, my tone light but unwavering. "I said, congratulations to the both of you."
His gaze flickered toward Spark, something softening in his expression before he gave a curt nod. "Thank you." Then, without hesitation, he turned to the room. "And let me make one thing clear, I will fight anyone who comes between me and my mate."
I nodded in agreement. "As you should." My gaze swept across the gathered wolves before I leaned forward, my voice taking on an edge. "But tell me, who dares to interfere?"
Silence. A thick, suffocating silence filled the room, the tension pressing down on every soul present.
With a sudden bang, I slammed my palm against the table, making several wolves flinch. "It seems no one is foolish enough," I mused. "Because mating is a gift from the Moon Goddess, and it cannot be forced. If Spark’s Beta wolf has recognized Wave’s wolf, then anyone who tries to interfere is courting death."
My gaze flickered to Elder Cobalt, who gritted his teeth in frustration but remained silent.
Then Flora finally spoke, her voice laced with amusement. "Aqua wanted to be mated to Beta Spark, and it drove Wave crazy."
Slowly, deliberately, I turned my gaze toward Aqua. She flinched, lowering her head in shame, avoiding my piercing stare.
Annoyance curled in my chest as I spoke, my voice sharp. "Aqua, do you remember our last conversation?" Her shoulders tensed, but she said nothing. I continued, my tone dropping into a dangerous whisper. "Some things cannot be forced. You are playing a dangerous game, and if you continue down this path..." My eyes flashed, ensuring she felt the weight of my words. "You will be courting death."
"A-alpha Tor, I know and understand my mistake," Aqua whispered, her voice barely audible. "It will never happen again."
From the corner of my eye, I caught Wave snickering, his amusement evident. But it was Elder Cobalt’s reaction that held my attention—his eyes widened in pure shock. He hadn’t expected his daughter to apologize, not after everything.
Something was off.
She was being filial, yes, but there was a disconnect, a subtle wrongness in her submission. It felt rehearsed, forced.
A low growl rumbled through my chest as Gale, my Lycan, rose to the surface, pushing against my consciousness with sharpened awareness. Something was buried deep within Aqua’s mind, something unnatural.
Vampire bugs.
The realization struck me hard. They had merged with her wolf, slithering through her mind like parasites, their influence poisoning her thoughts. But she wasn’t just their victim—she was the one controlling them. My eyes narrowed as I smirked at her, letting the weight of my words sink in. "Gale is smart enough to know when someone’s mind is corrupted by evil."
The room tensed.
A sharp gasp tore through Commander Steel, his entire body stiffening as my words settled over him like a heavyweight. General Steel, however, masked his reaction with a forced cough, his hand coming up to his mouth in an attempt to regain his composure. Aqua, still kneeling before me, swallowed hard, but I saw it, the flicker of fear behind her eyes, the brief moment where she knew I had seen through her.
I leaned forward, voice cold and commanding. "Tell me, Aqua, do you think the Paradise Coven is a match for me?"
Aqua’s eyes glinted with fury, but she masked it in seconds. Her lips parted, and through gritted teeth, she muttered, "No one in the realm is a match for you."
Her voice was hollow, laced with forced submission. I narrowed my eyes. Lies. I rose to my feet and let my Alpha power surge through the room. The air thickened, crackling with raw energy, and in an instant, Aqua screamed in agony. Her hands clutched her head as if something inside her was tearing her apart.
No one moved.
Even Elder Cobalt looked on in shock, frozen in place. The bugs the ones that had infiltrated her mind were fighting against my dominance, squirming as they tried to hold control over her wolf. But Gale, my Lycan, was far stronger. His power rose in me like an unstoppable wave, crashing into her consciousness and exposing her corruption.
Aqua lunged at me. From the corner of my eye, I saw Spark and Wave tense, ready to intercept her attack. I growled. The sound ripped through the room, deep, primal, commanding. The force of it sent Spark and Wave stumbling back, their instincts bowing to my authority. Even Aqua fell to her knees, her body trembling as she clutched her head, whimpering in pain.
I let my power recede, watching as she panted heavily, her body weak from the strain. Then, I spoke, my tone laced with warning. If you want to stay alive, Aqua, you’ll remove that filth from your mind before it drives you insane." Her head snapped up; eyes wide in shock. I smirked, knowing she was realizing the truth. "Nothing in this realm can escape my eyes."
Silence hung in the air.
My gaze flickered to Elder Cobalt. For long seconds, I held my stare, unyielding. His lips pressed into a thin line, and finally, he lowered his eyes in shame.
Aqua opened her mouth. "Alpha—"
I laughed, cutting her off. "You will never be the Luna of the Bay Shifter Pack." Her face paled. "You dug your own grave." Commander Steel shifted uncomfortably. His movements did not go unnoticed. I turned to him, my expression darkening. "Traitors have no place in my pack."
He flinched, his hand twitching at his side. Too late. "Deputy General Tiger, I commanded, voice absolute, "take him down. Lock him in prison for meeting with Desmond Marcel."
Gasps rippled through the room. Commander Steel went rigid, his betrayal exposed. Flora was the one who moved first, reaching him in a flash. Deputy General Tiger followed, grabbing him roughly before he could react. I straightened, addressing the room. "The day after tomorrow, all generals will assemble in the training grounds, including General Steel."
Wave nodded sharply. "Yes, Alpha."
I turned to him; my expression unreadable. "From now on, Aqua will be under enforcer guard. She will move to the female enforcer quarters and remain in isolation." Wave’s face was impassive, but I saw the fire in his eyes. He waved his hand, and the enforcer guards swooped in, grabbing Aqua without hesitation.
She didn’t fight. Didn’t even speak and for the first time, she looked truly defeated. As they dragged her from the room, Spark stepped behind me, a silent presence. Then Elder Cobalt moved forward.
Gale growled. The sound was enough to halt his steps, but the elder stood firm. His face twisted with something unreadable. And then, his next words made us all annoyed.
"Aqua is the only one who can save your Lycan, Alpha Tor and you just ruined that chance to ensure the Bay shifter pack remained at peace"
