Chapter 40: TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH!!

Chapter 40: TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH!!

{"Wherever there is danger, there lurks opportunity; whenever there is opportunity, there lurks danger. "}

Sleep eluded me the entire night. No matter how much I tossed and turned, Wave’s eyes and smile haunted my mind, burning through my thoughts like wildfire. I had always needed him, but tonight, the realization struck with undeniable force, I was in love with him. Completely.

Frustrated, I threw off my blanket and got out of bed. My body buzzed with pent-up energy, unwilling to settle, so I decided to run. The night air was crisp against my skin as I took off, my feet pounding against the forest floor. The scent of damp earth and pine-filled my lungs, clearing my mind, but not enough.

Ahead, a familiar figure moved with the same restless energy. Tor.

"Can’t sleep?" he asked, raising an eyebrow as I approached.

I let out a breathy chuckle. "Trained all afternoon, but my body refuses to rest."

Tor nodded in understanding, and without another word, we fell into stride together. We stayed in human form as we raced deeper into the forest, our movements fluid and effortless. The wind howled through the trees, urging us forward, faster until we reached the top of a hill. From here, the entire landscape spread before us—the endless stretch of the Bay Shifter lands, the dark waves of the sea, and in the distance, the silhouette of Hanka Island against the night sky.

Tor turned to me, his sharp gaze unreadable. "What’s got you so restless?" he asked, his voice low.

I hesitated, but there was no use hiding it. He could sense it. The way Spark, my wolf, stirred beneath my skin, agitated, yearning, desperate.

I exhaled, staring out at the sea. "It’s Wave," I admitted. "I can’t stop thinking about him."

Tor did not react right away. He simply watched me, his silence pressing but not judgmental. "And?"

"And... I am in love with him," I said, the words tasting both terrifying and freeing as they left my lips.

For a moment, there was only the sound of the wind and the distant crash of waves. Then, Tor smirked. "Took you long enough."

I huffed out a laugh, shaking my head. "Was it that obvious?"

"To everyone but you." He clapped a hand on my shoulder before stepping away. "Come on, let us run again. You will figure out what you are going to do about it."

I nodded, my chest feeling just a little lighter. Then, with a shared glance, I undressed and shifted while Tor picked up my clothes, and then using magic, he shifted and there he stood his Lycan wolf while Spark my wolf stared at him in admiration and awe, and seconds we took off into the night. The run was like a mind-healing stance, each powerful stride pushing away the tension that had coiled inside me. Spark, my wolf, finally settled, his restless energy easing into a steady calm. But I knew it was not just the run—it was the magic that radiated from Tor. His presence had a way of balancing the storm inside me, grounding me in ways I did not fully understand.

By the time we returned to Bay Shifter lands, the first light of dawn was beginning to stretch across the sky. Tor shifted back first, his form seamlessly flowing from wolf to human. He tossed me a set of clothes, and I quickly followed, pulling them on before the cool morning air could bite at my skin.

Without a word, he beckoned me to follow. We approached the royal guard station, the barrier recognizing us and parting without resistance. Once inside, we walked a few meters past the entrance before Tor finally spoke.

"I understand how you feel," he said, his voice steady. "But you need to tell Wave."

I let out a slow breath, nodding. "He already confessed," I admitted. "We’ve both made our feelings clear."

Tor frowned slightly. "Then what’s the problem?"

"I’m the problem," I muttered, running a hand through my hair. "I did not expect him to feel the same, and now that he does, I do not know what to do. I have been holding back, unsure of how to move forward."

Tor tilted his head, studying me. "And how long are you planning to let him suffer in silence?"

I blinked at him, caught off guard.

Then he burst into laughter, the deep, warm sound filling the air around us. "You’re hopeless," he said between chuckles. "But I’m happy you two figured things out." He clapped a firm hand on my shoulder. "You have my blessings."

A smile tugged at my lips as I shook my head, weightlifting from my chest. "I finally understand what you meant," I said, my voice lighter. "About being in love."

Tor’s grin widened. "Fucking great"

I chuckled, a warmth spreading through me that had nothing to do with magic. For the first time in a long while, I felt at peace.

I barely remember hitting the pillow before I was out, the exhaustion of the night finally catching up with me. As I drifted into sleep, the last thoughts that crossed my mind were of Wave. My wolf, Spark, whimpered softly in my chest, a low, yearning sound that mirrored my desire to be with him.

But my peace was short-lived. A loud banging on my door yanked me from sleep. The sunlight spilling through the window told me everything I needed to know—I had overslept.

"Dammit," I muttered under my breath, my body already moving before my brain fully caught up. I scrambled out of bed, shirtless, and rushed to the door. Yanking it open, I was met with the stern face of Deputy General Tiger and my sister, Flora.

"You overslept?" Flora asked, her voice carrying a mix of surprise and disbelief.

I did not bother answering immediately. Instead, I turned and walked back into the house, heading straight for the clock on the wall. When I saw the time, my curse echoed louder in the quiet room. It was already past midday.

Frustration boiled in me as I stormed into my room and slammed the door behind me.

I hurriedly showered and dressed, trying to shake off the fog of sleep that clung to me. When I emerged, the scent of breakfast hit my nose, and I looked over to find Flora at the stove. Deputy General Tiger was sitting at the kitchen counter, staring off into space, deep in thought.

I strode over to them, my impatience clear. "Why the hell are you two here looking for me?" I demanded, my voice sharper than I meant it to be.

Before anyone could answer, the scent of Wave hit my nostrils, familiar, intoxicating, and just a bit intoxicating. My heart skipped a beat, and I turned toward the door instinctively.

Flora, sensing my sudden shift, spoke up. "I’m going to open the door for Wave," she said, her tone casual but knowing.

My pulse quickened, and a wave of excitement and nervousness flooded me. I could not help it. Wave’s presence had that effect on me, and I was sure that he would throw me off balance the minute he set foot in my home.

Wave walked in, his presence like a breath of fresh air that immediately filled the room. He was followed closely by Flora, who closed the door behind them with a soft click. Wave’s eyes met mine for just a second—long enough for my heart to stutter before they flicked toward Deputy General Tiger. His greeting was short and casual, but it held a weight between us that I could not ignore.

I opened my mouth to say something, but the words got caught. Instead, I just mumbled a half-hearted greeting as I grabbed a plate of food and shoved it into my mouth. It was the easiest thing to do, distract myself with the comforting rhythm of eating, pretending that the tension in the air did not exist.

Deputy General Tiger broke the silence, his voice steady as he delivered the news. "I have found out that General Steel will be meeting with someone from the Paradise Coven, deep in the mountains, at dusk. We have three hours to sit go there and listen from a distance."

The urgency in his tone cut through the fog of sleepiness still clouding my mind. I froze mid-chew, the food still in my mouth as the words settled in.

Flora stepped forward, her movements precise and calculated. "If we all leave, it’ll look suspicious," she said, her gaze flicking to Wave and then to Tiger. "So, I suggest Wave and Spark head to the mountain while Tiger and I stay behind. We will keep an eye on everything and see who else is involved."

I swallowed hard, my mind racing as I processed the plan. It made sense, but part of me wanted to argue. Being so close to Wave, and having him by my side, felt like the right thing, but there was a practicality to Flora’s plan that I could not deny.

"Alright," I said after a moment, my voice a little more composed than I felt. "Let us do it. Send a word to Alpha Tor and tell him where we are going and ensure no one finds out about the plan. "

"I will go and see Alpha Tor" Flora nodded.

"What if something goes wrong?" Wave asked.
