Chapter 160: BACK IN RAGAR MOUNTAIN
Chapter 160: BACK IN RAGAR MOUNTAIN
{"We’re better together and stronger together." }
There was a moment of silence before Spark furrowed his brows, his confusion clear. Wave’s gaze didn’t waver, though I saw the subtle shift in his expression, a flicker of concern, maybe even caution.
"To Ragar Mountain?" Spark asked, disbelief lacing his voice. "Why?"
I walked over to the window, looking out at the distant horizon. The decision felt heavy, like a weight I couldn’t shake. "I’d been thinking about it all night. Freyr and Dante, whatever they ran into there, it was worse than we imagined. I could feel it. That roar from Kayne, it wasn’t just anger. It was something darker, something deeper. And I couldn’t shake the feeling that whatever they encountered was tied to something even bigger."
Spark leaned back in his chair, frowning, his eyes narrowing. "You know that all this is connected."
I turned to face him, urgency rising in my chest. "Yes. But it’s more than that. The entire realm feels off. The Bay Pack. The Coven. The balance is shattered. If that place is awakening something, we need to understand it before it consumes everything and, of course, heed the warning from Gerod and the cautionary words from the Guardian of Ragar Mountain.
Wave pushed off from the wall, his movement slow but filled with intent. His steady gaze met mine, as calm and unwavering as ever. "You’re right," he said, his voice clear. "We have to be prepared for the evil that arises."
I nodded, feeling the weight of my thoughts pressing in on me. "I will take Rou with me to Ragar Mountain."
Spark ran a hand through his hair, his frustration clear, though understanding flickered in his eyes. "I get it, Tor. But you know the risks, and the pack will not take the news well if they know you will be out of the bay shifter pack. "
"I understand. With the presence developments, everything is tense, and they would not be in comfort to hear that their Alpha is out of Bay shifter pack lands," I said, my voice quieter but more resolute. "But I need all the information to protect them."
Wave stepped closer, his hand resting gently on my shoulder. His presence had a calming effect, and I could feel the reassurance in his touch. "We’ll be here when you return," he said, his voice steady and unwavering.
I looked at both of them, their support grounding me even though the worry in my gut didn’t fade. "I’ll leave at dawn," I said. "Keep this between us."
Spark gave me a sharp nod, his jaw set in determination. "We’ll hold down the fort here. Do what you need to do, Tor. Just come back in one piece."
I gave him a short, firm nod, then turned to Wave. His gaze was quiet, understanding, and a little bit of concern flickered in his eyes.
"I’ll be careful," I promised, though the uncertainty of the road ahead still lingered in the back of my mind.
Early the next day, at dawn, I’d just yanked open the door to my house when I saw Rou standing on the doorstep, a smirk already playing at the corners of his lips.
"Morning, Alpha Tor," he greeted me, his voice low but with that familiar teasing edge. "I take it you’re ready for round two, huh? Ragar Mountain awaits, and this time..." His smirk deepened as he looked at me over. "I have a feeling the mountain’s expecting us."
I gave him a dry look, stepping aside to let him in, and as I closed the door behind us, I caught his eye. There was something about his expression that told me he didn’t quite understand why we were going back. After all, we’d already been there once, and the answers we sought were still just out of reach.
"What’s with that look?" I asked, cutting to the chase.
Rou matched my stride as we walked deeper into the house, his brow furrowed as we moved toward the small sitting area by the fire. "Ragar, why are we going back?
I paused and then responded, "Freyr’s beast Kayne reached out to me last night."
Rou stopped mid-step, turning his head to look at me, his posture tensing with curiosity. "What did he say?"
I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the words before I spoke them. "Kayne said they escaped Blood Stone Mountain. Dante was hurt, but more importantly, he and Freyr rescued someone. Rou, they rescued Rolan, your brother. He’s alive."
Rou’s face drained of color, his jaw dropping as he blinked at me, stunned. "Rolan? Alive?" The words didn’t seem to fit in his mouth, and I could tell he was struggling to process what I had just told him.
I nodded, watching his shock morph into disbelief. "I... I don’t understand," Rou stammered, shaking his head as if trying to clear the confusion. "He went missing years ago."
I stepped closer, putting a hand on his shoulder, grounding him as much as I could in that moment. "I don’t have all the answers, Rou. Kayne didn’t explain everything, but he said Rolan was with them. And if there’s one thing I trust, it’s Kayne’s word. He wouldn’t lie about something like this."
Rou stood there in stunned silence, trying to come to grips with the news. I could see the struggle on his face, the hope and pain battling each other. After all these years, it was hard to believe that the brother he’d lost could be back. That he could still be alive.
"I don’t know what to say," Rou finally muttered, his voice rough. "Rolan disappeared right before the death of former Coven Lord Dunco Kayne."
. "Rolan disappeared before Lord Marcel’s death?" I asked, my voice coming out hoarser than I intended. The disbelief in my words hung heavily in the air between Rou and me.
Rou nodded, his face hard, his jaw clenched. The tension in his posture was unmistakable, this wasn’t just some small shock for him. No, this was personal. And I could see the weight of it in the way his eyes flashed with both confusion and a deep, aching anger.
"Yeah," Rou said quietly. "He was gone long before that happened. We searched everywhere, Tor. We looked everywhere we could, through the old hideouts, the covens, the forests. Nothing. We thought he was dead. Hell, we even thought he was taken by one of the other covens, maybe killed off in the fights with the vampires and the wolf shifters."
The silence between us stretched, thick with unspoken questions. I turned back to Rou, unable to mask the shock in my voice. "But why would he be in Blood Stone Mountain? "
Rou’s eyes flashed with something darker now, something I hadn’t seen before, frustration. "I don’t know, but I am scared that once we find out, we shall all not like the answer.r"
I could feel the bitterness in his voice, the years of searching, the grief over a brother lost, now suddenly found, but surrounded by so many questions. It was hard for anyone to accept—especially Rou.
"Kayne said he was rescued," I said, almost to myself, as I thought back to Kayne’s words. "But that doesn’t explain everything. Do you think Rolan would’ve chosen to stay there for years if he was trapped? No, there’s more to this story, Rou."
Rou’s gaze darkened as if the realization of the truth was sinking in. "And we don’t know what we’ll find why he stared there for so long," he muttered, his voice tinged with frustration. "Rolan could have been forced into it, manipulated, or worse, used as some kind of pawn."
I reached over, placing a hand firmly on Rou’s shoulder. My grip was meant to steady him, though I could tell he wasn’t quite ready for it. He still looked like he was struggling to come to terms with the truth. But I had to remind him, remind both of us, what needed to be done next.
"Rou," I said, my voice steady but low, firm with the certainty that had already settled in my chest. "We need to get to Ragar Mountain first. That’s where the answers are."
He turned his head slightly, meeting my gaze with those familiar, guarded eyes. I could see him processing it, weighing my words. I wasn’t asking him to be okay with it. I wasn’t asking him to feel ready. This was bigger than both of us. But I needed him to understand. We had no choice.
"Ragar Mountain?" Rou’s voice was a little rougher than usual, as if the reality of our situation was still sinking in.
I nodded slowly, giving his shoulder a gentle squeeze. "I’m serious. If we want to understand why Rolan is in Blood Stone Mountain, if we want to know what’s going on, we must start there. There’s something we missed before. Rou exhaled, his chest rising and falling slowly as he nodded, though his expression remained serious, troubled. "I need answers, and as the Alpha of the Bay shifter pack, I need to be prepared to protect my people and my mate.e"
He nodded as continued to walk out of the Bay shifter pack and he whispered "Alright. Ragar Mountain it is, then."
