Chapter 140: OUT OF THE HAVEN CAVE
{"For evil to flourish, it only requires good men to do nothing."}
FRERY’S POV
The soft glow of dawn seeped through the crevices of the Haven Cave, casting golden streaks along the stone walls. The air was crisp, carrying the distant scent of the sea and the faint hum of life beyond the cave’s entrance.
I stirred first, my senses waking before my body. The weight beside me was warm, steady—undeniably him. Tor. A slow smile tugged at my lips as I turned my head, taking in the sight of my mate. His dark hair was tousled, his strong features softened by sleep. For all his ferocity as Alpha, here, in the quiet embrace of morning, he was just mine. I shifted slightly, my fingers trailing along his bare chest, feeling the slow rise and fall of his breath. He stirred, a low rumble escaping his throat before his golden eyes fluttered open, locking onto mine.
"Watching me again?" His voice was thick with sleep, teasing yet laced with warmth.
I smirked. "You make it easy."
He huffed, reaching up to pull me closer. "You’re supposed to rest, not admire me."
I arched my brow. "You forget, I don’t need to sleep the way you do." My fingers trailed along his jaw, enjoying the way he leaned into my touch. "Besides, I’d rather watch you than stare at cave walls."
Tor chuckled, the sound deep and rich, vibrating against me. "I can think of better ways to pass the time."
Before I could respond, he rolled, pinning me beneath him in one fluid motion. The weight shift, the feel of him pressing against me, sent a pleasant shiver through my body. "You’re insatiable," I murmured, my fingers tangling in his hair.
He smirked, dipping his head to graze his lips along my throat. "And you love it."
I laughed softly, feeling the cave around us fade into the background. In this moment, it was just us, bonded and in love.
The sizzling pond hissed and bubbled before us, its surface churning with an unseen force. Steam curled into the air, thick and almost alive, twisting into strange patterns as if whispering secrets of the island. The energy around us shifted, heavy with something ancient, something powerful.
Tor stood beside me, his stance firm, his golden eyes locked on the pond’s center. I felt his tension, though he masked it well. We both knew who we were waiting for. And when Gerod arrived, it would not be subtle.
The water roared suddenly, a column of steam shooting into the sky as the surface exploded outward. I took a step back, but Tor remained rooted. From the depths of the pond, a massive figure began to rise, his form breaking through the mist like a phantom from another world.
And then Gerod appeared in full dragon form, his great wings stretched, the shimmering black scales catching the light in a way that made them look like molten obsidian. The pond hissed angrily as the water clung to him before rolling away in defeat. His deep red eyes, burning with centuries of wisdom, locked onto us. Without hesitation, Tor and I bowed low in greeting. It wasn’t just respect, it was survival.
"Rise," Gerod commanded, his voice a low rumble that sent vibrations through the ground beneath us. We obeyed, standing once more as he studied us. His gaze lingered on me first, piercing, assessing, before shifting to Tor.
"It is done," he declared. "Your powers have stabilized, and it’s safe for you to be out of the Haven cave."
I met his gaze, feeling the truth settle deep within me. The raw, untamed force that once threatened to consume me was now under control, honed, sharpened, and ready.
Tor gave a single nod, his golden eyes steady. "Thank you, Gerod, for your care and wisdom."
Gerod didn’t blink. "The real is counting on the two of you."
"We shall not fail," I asserted.
Then Gerod’s next words cut through the air like a blade.
"Rogourau Alpha Rou has arrived."
"He’s here," I said, more a statement than a question." Then that means something is wrong in Paradise Coven."
Gerod inclined his head. "He awaits you together with the people from BayShifter and the guard from Paradise Coven."
Tor flexed his hands, the slightest hint of claws emerging before he stilled. "We need to g.o."
The moment Gerod gave his final nod, Tor and I wasted no time. We turned sharply, moving with purpose as we left the Haven Cave behind. The air was thick with lingering magic, but we had no time to dwell on it. The moment had come, and we emerged into the open, the sun beating down on us as our feet hit solid ground. The scent of salt and earth filled my lungs, sharpening my senses. Tor was already scanning the area, his golden eyes narrowed with precision.
And then, we saw them standing by the edge of the forest, Rou, Flora, Rita and Sohen.
Tor stepped forward first, his voice steady. "Alpha Rou."
Rou didn’t move, didn’t blink. "Frery and Tor, it’s good to see you." His tone was cool, but the weight of his words was unmistakable.
"Likewise," I spoke up.
"I am glad you made it here. "Tor added.
"Good," he said. "We have much to discuss."
Rou’s voice was steady, but the weight behind his words was undeniable. He stood before us, his dark eyes shadowed with memories of something far worse than captivity. "I was taken," he began, his tone devoid of hesitation. "Captured and thrown into Paradise Coven’s jail. They knew what I was, but they didn’t understand my purpose."
I listened intently, my body rigid as his words filled the air between us. "They kept me locked away, waiting, watching. But while they thought I was helpless behind their enchanted walls, I could still sense the shift in power beyond them. That’s when I felt it, something stirring in Bloodstone Mountain. Something ancient... something evil."
Tor and I exchanged a glance, but Rou continued before I could speak.
"I don’t know what it is yet," he admitted, "but its power was rising. Dark, unnatural... wrong. It was as if the mountain itself was crying out, warning me." He exhaled, his jaw clenching. "That’s when Lord Marcel intervened."
At the mention of the name, my muscles tense. "He moved me from the Coven’s jail," Rou went on, his eyes sharp with memory. "He didn’t tell me why, didn’t say what he planned. But I knew whatever it was, it wasn’t in my favor." I narrowed my eyes. Lord Marcel was never one to act without reason. If he had relocated Rou, there had been a purpose behind it, one I doubted had anything to do with mercy.
Rou smirked slightly, but there was no humor in it. "Fortunately for me, their arrogance became their downfall. They thought they could hold me. They underestimated what I could do." His gaze darkened. "So, I escaped."
Silence stretched between us, his final words lingering like a storm in the distance.
"I came here," he said, locking eyes with me. "Because whatever is stirring in Bloodstone Mountain, it’s growing. And if we don’t stop it, it will consume everything."
Sohen stood with the rigid posture of a man who had seen too much, his eyes dark with knowledge he had no right to possess. The firelight flickered against his face, casting deep shadows that mirrored the weight of his words.
"There is a place," he began, his voice low but firm. "Deep within Bloodstone Mountain, near the sea, exits a place no one is allowed to enter."
I watched him carefully, noting the slight hesitation before he continued.
"The only one who has ever been granted access is Lord Marcel."
The name carried its gravity, an unspoken warning laced beneath every syllable. My jaw tightened, and beside me, Tor shifted, his golden eyes narrowing in thought.
Sohen exhaled sharply, shaking his head. "There have always been rumors. Whispers that something was buried there, something never meant to see the light of day. But no one truly knows what lies beyond those gates because every guard who ever dared to question it..." His voice dropped, cold and final. "Ended up dead."
A heavy silence settled between us. I didn’t speak right away, letting the weight of his words sink in. But in my gut, I already knew the answer to the question that had been forming in my mind since Rou first mentioned the darkness stirring in Bloodstone Mountain.
Tor crossed his arms, his expression unreadable. "And you believe whatever is hidden there is what’s causing the power shift?"
Sohen met his gaze, unwavering. "I don’t believe it. I know. The day Frery killed the wolf, there was panic in the mountain, and I heard a guard say that whatever had happened was not good for Lord Marcel. "
Rou’s voice cut through the heavy silence like a blade. "We don’t have time to hesitate," he declared, his deep tone carrying the weight of urgency. "We have to get to Bloodstone Mountain—now."
I turned to face him fully, my mind still processing Sohen’s revelation. Rou’s eyes burned with conviction, his stance unyielding. Tor exhaled sharply. "We don’t even know what we’re walking into."
Rou’s jaw tightened. "That’s exactly why we need to move. Whatever is hidden in that mountain is waking up. We can’t sit here waiting for it to come to us."
I studied him carefully. There was no doubt in his posture, no hesitation in his words. He wasn’t just speaking from fear; he was speaking from instinct. And that made me trust him even more.
Sohen nodded slowly. "Rou is right. The longer we wait, the stronger it gets."
Tor let out a low growl of frustration but didn’t argue. He knew it too. We all did.
I took a deep breath, then met Rou’s gaze. "Then we leave immediately."
His lips pressed into a firm line. "Good."
"Flora and Rita need to go back to Bay shifter pack, inform the council and have them ready, I have a feeling there will be a second attack."
