Chapter 139: MY ROGOURAU BEAST

{"Two hearts that beat as one; our lives have just begun." }

The cool night air wrapped around us as Rita and I stood in the backyard of her home, the scent of damp earth and pine filling my senses. The moon hung high, casting silver light over her dark hair, making it shimmer like silk.

I watched her in silence for a moment, my heart thrumming with something close to anticipation. She looked peaceful like this, barefoot in the grass, her golden eyes softened in the moonlight. But I knew what lay beneath that calm exterior.

"Shift for me," I said, my voice quiet but certain.

Rita turned to me, one brow arching. "Into the Rogourau?"

I nodded. "I want to see you."

She studied me for a long moment as if searching for hesitation in my face. "Most people wouldn’t ask that," she murmured. "Most don’t want to see the monster."

I stepped closer, placing a hand on her chest, feeling the steady warmth beneath my palm. "You’re not a monster to me, Rita."

A flicker of something unreadable passed through her eyes before she exhaled slowly and took a step back. "Alright," she said, her voice low, almost reverent. "Don’t run."

The moment Rita shifted, I forgot how to breathe.

She was magnificent, pure power, and untamed grace. Midnight-black fur rippled over muscle, silver scars tracing stories I ached to know. Her golden eyes glowed in the dim light, locking onto me with an intensity that sent a shiver down my spine. But it wasn’t fear that took hold of me. It was something deeper, something undeniable. She was terrifying. Beautiful. Mine. My heart pounded as I stepped closer, drawn to her like the moon to the tide. "Rita..." I whispered, her name slipping from my lips like a prayer.

A low growl rumbled through her chest, but there was no warning in it—only possession, only want. My wolf stirred, recognizing the truth before my mind could fully grasp it. Ours, she purred, and I knew she was right. Then, before my eyes, Rita’s massive form began to shift, the raw strength of the Rogourau melting away into the woman I loved. Her dark hair clung to her damp skin, her golden eyes still smoldering as she stepped toward me.

"You’re not afraid," she murmured, her voice husky, filled with something unspoken.

I lifted a hand, pressing it against her bare chest, feeling the steady, unshaken rhythm of her heartbeat. "Should I be?"

A slow smile ghosted across her lips. "Most are."

"I’m not most," I breathed.

She exhaled softly, resting her forehead against mine, her fingers curling around my waist like she would never let go. "No," she whispered. "You’re mine." And I was hers—completely, irrevocably, forever.

The night air was cool, carrying the scent of damp earth and pine as Rita and I sat in the backyard of my home. The moon hung low, bathing us in silver light, but the world beyond the trees felt distant, like nothing existed outside this moment.

Rita sat with her arms resting on her knees, her golden eyes reflecting the glow of the lantern beside us. There was something different about her tonight, something heavier in the way she stared into the darkness.

"Tell me," I said softly.

She didn’t ask what I meant. She knew, and for a long moment, she was silent. Then, with a slow inhale, she began.

"The Rogourau were never meant to be monsters," she murmured, her voice low, steady. "We were created for something greater. We were guardians, bound to the first Lycan Wolf King, sworn to protect him. When the world feared him, we remained. When war threatened, we fought by his side. And when loneliness crept in... we were all he had."

I held my breath, watching her. "You were his family."

Rita nodded, a shadow crossing her face. "In a way, yes. But our duty didn’t end with him. The Rogourau guarded what the world was never meant to take, the treasures of the Bay Shifter Pack, the veins of gold running through the Sagstone Mountains, and the chambers hidden deep within Ragar Mountain Haven, where power still sleeps."

She turned to me then, her eyes searching mine. "These weren’t just riches, Flora. They were legacies, pieces of something ancient. We protected them, not for greed, but because they were never meant to fall into the wrong hands."

I exhaled slowly, the weight of her words sinking into my bones. "The bay shifter pack member did not do you justice, especially the Collen family. I am sorry, Rita."

Her jaw tensed, and she looked away. "I must say when Alpha Tor came to the mountains he saved us. We finally managed to come out of hiding and I met you" The quiet between us stretched, heavy and unspoken. I reached for her hand, threading my fingers through hers, grounding her in the here and now.

"Alpha Tor is never a threat but the answer to peace of the realm. We must support him." I whispered.

She didn’t speak, but the way her fingers tightened around mine told me that she agreed. And in the soft glow of the lantern, beneath the vast sky that had witnessed centuries of forgotten truths, I vowed that no matter what came next, I would ensure we had a peaceful and happy life.

She exhaled slowly, her gaze drifting toward the tree line as if she could see beyond it, beyond time, beyond memory.

"If someone captured a Rogourau," she said at last, her voice quiet but weighted, "they wouldn’t just be taking a beast. They would be taking knowledge, unearthing the secrets of the Bay Shifter Pack."

A chill ran through me, not from fear, but from the understanding of what that meant. "What kind of secrets?" I asked.

Rita’s golden eyes flickered to mine, assessing. Then she spoke, each word deliberate. "The history of our kind, the hidden strengths of our bloodlines, the power buried beneath the Sagstone Mountains and locked away in Ragar Mountain Haven. The things only we were meant to guard." She shook her head, a small, bitter smile tugging at her lips. "That’s why we never left the mountains. Our power is woven into them. There, we’re not just beasts. We are part of the land itself."

I tightened my grip on her fingers. "That’s why you stayed away."

Her jaw clenched, and for a moment, she didn’t speak. Then she nodded. "It was safer that way. For us. For everyone."

I studied her, taking in the weight she carried, the centuries of solitude, of duty. "And now?" I asked, my voice softer. "Now you’re here, with me."

She exhaled, long and slow, like she was releasing something she’d held onto for too long. "Now... I don’t want to hide anymore."

The admission settled between us, warm and fragile. I lifted my free hand, brushing my fingers along her jaw, grounding her the way she had always grounded me.

"Then we won’t hide," I whispered. "Not anymore. Come on, let’s get to bed."

The sun hung high in the sky, casting a golden warmth over the backyard. A soft breeze rustled the leaves, carrying the scent of pine and earth. I had been resting on the porch, half-dozing in the afternoon light, when I felt Rita shift beside me. Her sudden movement pulled me from my haze, and I turned toward her, blinking against the sunlight. She was already sitting up, her golden eyes distant, her body tense.

"Flora," she said, her voice calm but firm.

I frowned, pushing myself upright. "What is it? She exhaledse as if steadying herself. "Althea Gale just contacted me."

I straightened at the name, my senses sharpening. "Althea?" I repeated. "Why?"

Rita turned to me, her expression unreadable. "She’s at the entrance of the caves that lead to Hanka Island." She paused, letting the words settle. "She’s asking for Alpha Tor. "I blinked, my mind racing to make sense of it. Then, the weight of her words crashed into me like a wave.

"What?!" I gasped, sitting up fully. "At the caves? Now?"

Rita nodded; her gaze locked onto mine. "She says it’s urgent."

A sudden sense of unease curled in my stomach. Althea Gale wasn’t the type to reach out unless something serious was happening. If she was here, asking for Alpha Tor... then whatever was coming was bigger than we could imagine. I swung my legs over the edge of the porch, already reaching for my shoes. "We need to go and inform Alpha Tor and get to Althea Gale as soon as possible."

Rita and I wasted no time. As soon as we arrived at Alpha Tor’s house, we banged on the door, and he yanked it open, and I stepped forward, my voice steady despite the

"Good morning, Alpha. Rita knows where Althea is, and we came in a hurry to tell you," I said quickly. "After Beta Spark briefed us on the mission this morning, we knew we had to act fast."

"Where?" Alpha Tor demanded.

. "The caves that lead to Hanka Island. Althea must have known you would search for her, so she sent a message to me. We need to hurry, she’s running out of time." Rita rumbled on.

. "Give me a few minutes to take a shower, and we shall set off for Hanka Island." Alpha Tor stated.

"Yes, Alpha," we both responded in unison.
