Chapter 118: THE MESSAGE FROM ROU

{"Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become."}

GENERAL TIGER’S POV

The forest was silent, wrapped in the embrace of night. The only sounds were the rustling of leaves in the wind and the distant hoot of an owl. I was asleep, my body heavy with exhaustion, my arms wrapped protectively around Ralph. His warmth against me was a grounding presence, a reminder that for now, at least, we were safe.

Then, the dream came. It wasn’t the kind of dream that drifted in softly; it struck like a sudden storm, tearing me away from the darkness of sleep and throwing me into something else entirely. A vast, endless, and cold space stretched before me. A low hum filled the air, vibrating deep in my bones. And then, a voice rose from the void, strong and familiar.

"Ralph, wake up and listen to me."

My breath caught. I turned sharply, but there was nothing. Only the voice, Rou’s voice was echoing all around me.

"There is no time to waste as a large vampire army is coming to Bay Shifter lands."

I felt my heart hammer against my ribs. The air around me shifted, flickering like a mirage, and then I saw it, a massive ship, black sails cutting through the mist-covered waters, gliding toward the Bay Shifter lands. The scent of death clung to it, thick and suffocating.

"They will arrive before dawn. You must not let them reach the shore. Burn the harbor, destroy everything if you must, but do not let them set foot on our land."

A deep growl rumbled in my chest. "How many?" I demanded, but Rou’s voice ignored me, speaking with an urgency that made my blood run cold.

"Ralph, you must wake General Tiger. Tell him to prepare for war. The fate of the Bay Shifter Pack depends on it."

The vision wavered, the haunting stillness collapsed into darkness, and suddenly, I was falling. I jolted awake. My breath came fast, my pulse racing like a war drum. The forest returned in a blur, the towering trees, the damp scent of moss, the weight of Ralph still in my arms.

Beside me, Ralph stirred, eyes fluttering open.

"You saw it too," he murmured, his voice laced with understanding by the worried look on my face.

I pulled back slightly, still reeling. "Rou," I said, the name sharp on my tongue. "He spoke to you. In my dream."

Ralph sat up, rubbing his face before nodding. "Yes, Rou sent me a message through the Rogourau earth bond."

I frowned. "The earth bond?"

He turned to face me, his expression calm despite the storm raging inside me. "The Rougarou have a connection, a deep one. We can send messages through dreams, through the energy that ties us together. Rou’s spirit reached out because the threat is real." He exhaled slowly. "We don’t have much time, we need to move."

I stared at him, my mind struggling to catch up. A war was coming. A vampire army was sailing under the cover of darkness, and a bond I barely understood had warned us before it was too late. I pushed to my feet, shaking off the remnants of sleep. "We must protect Bay shifter pack," I said, my voice steady. "We burn the harbor, we set the traps. If they want our land, they’ll have to fight for every inch of it."

Ralph met my gaze, determination flashing in his eyes. "Then let’s not waste another second."

Rushing out of the forest, we dressed quickly, the urgency of Rou’s message pressing against my ribs like a weight I couldn’t shake. The night air was crisp, the scent of pine and damp earth clinging to our clothes as we moved. There was no time to waste.

By the time we reached Bay Shifter Town, the streets were quiet, but the air carried a charge, an unseen tension that settled in my gut like a storm brewing on the horizon. The guards at the gate straightened at our approach, their eyes flickering with curiosity at our hurried steps.

"Send word to Beta Spark and Enforcer Wave," I ordered, my voice cutting through the night. "Summon Commander Flora and Rita, General Mac Mortas, his brother Enforcer Troy Mortas, and Female Commander Belle Mortas. Blossom and Lily, as well. And inform the elders of the council, and we convene at the council conference hall immediately."

The guards nodded and disappeared into the shadows, carrying my orders across the town.

Half an hour later, the conference hall buzzed with murmurs as the council members settled into their seats. The heavy wooden table stretched before me, worn from years of war discussions and strategic planning. Every face was sharp with focus, waiting for me to speak.

Then, I noticed it, Lily’s seat was empty. Blossom, seated beside Belle, caught my gaze and leaned forward. "Lily went to see her father, Samuel," she explained. "She hasn’t returned yet."

I gave a curt nod, filing the information away. "We start without her."

Silence fell as I stood, letting my gaze sweep across the room before I spoke. "Rou came to Ralph in a vision. He sent a warning." I let the weight of my words settle before continuing. "A vampire army is on its way to Bay Shifter lands. They travel by ship under the cover of fog and darkness. They will be at our harbor by dawn."

A ripple of tension spread across the room. Mac Mortas’ fingers drummed against the table, while Beta Spark’s brows knitted together in thought. Flora and Belle exchanged glances, their postures rigid.

"We must act now," I pressed on. "The harbor must be destroyed before they reach the shore. We will not give them the chance to set foot on our land."

For a long moment, no one spoke. Then, a sharp gasp cut through the silence. Rita. Her wide eyes darted between Ralph and me, her lips parting as realization dawned on her like a thunderclap.

"You’re mated," she blurted out, the words loud, clear, and undeniable. The room stilled. All eyes turned to us. I felt my muscles tense. Ralph stiffened beside me, but I didn’t look at him. Instead, I locked eyes with Rita, watching the way her expression shifted—shock, then understanding, then something else I couldn’t quite place

I exhaled slowly, feeling the weight of the moment settle over me like a thick cloak. There was no point in avoiding it. Rita had already spoken the truth, and the council members were waiting for my response.

"Yes," I said, my voice steady. "I am mated to Ralph."

A grin spread across Rita’s face before she clapped her hands together, letting out a cheer."That’s good news," she declared. "It means that the message Rou sent, both you and Ralph received it because you are mated."

I narrowed my eyes slightly, watching her as I processed her words. Beside me, I heard a soft chuckle from Ralph. "Yes, and yes," he confirmed, his voice carrying an amused edge. "Now, let’s focus on the matter at hand and get things rolling."

I gave a firm nod, pushing aside any lingering thoughts of our bond. There was no time to dwell on that now. But before I could speak again, Rita straightened in her seat, her expression sharpening with determination.

"I have a plan," she announced, her voice cutting through the air with confidence. "If everyone is ready to listen."

The council members all turned their attention to her. Some curious, some skeptical. The only one who didn’t seem entirely on board was Blossom. Her posture was stiff, her arms crossed, her sharp gaze locked onto Rita with a hint of resistance.

"If you don’t like the plan," Rita continued, her tone unwavering, "then you can say no. But at least hear me out."

"Let’s hear it," Flora spoke up, her voice carrying a note of assertion.

I caught the faintest hint of a smirk tugging at the corners of Flora’s lips, though her expression remained composed. She wasn’t going to let anyone in this room dismiss Rita outright, and I could sense that just as clearly as I could feel the tension radiating off Blossom.

Rita took a breath and launched into her explanation. "It would be best to take the Rogourau guardians to the beach and have them guard the waters," she said. "That would leave the rest of us free to protect the land in case the vampire army has another way of sneaking into Bay Shifter territory. This strategy means we can keep more of our army positioned here, safeguarding the people, while also sending reinforcements to the border of Hanka Island—just in case."

A heavy stillness settled in the air, followed by low murmurs of agreement rippling through the council hall. Nods of approval passed between the members, and even Blossom’s skeptical gaze shifted slightly, her brows raising in surprise. Then she spoke. "Are you sure?" she asked, her voice cautious. "That means you would be putting the Rogourau in the front lines."

Rita chuckled, a knowing glint in her eyes. "The Rogourau were created to guard the mountains and the shifter lands," she reminded the room. "They would never allow anyone to infiltrate these lands. This is what they were made for."

I studied the faces around the table, watching as the realization settled in. Rita was right. The Rogourau were more than capable of defending the coastline, and if this was the best way to ensure Bay Shifter’s safety, then there was no other choice. I met Ralph’s gaze briefly, then turned back to the council hall and asked "Blossom, what do you say?"
