Chapter 112: KAYNE-GALE’S POWER
{"Never above you, never below you, always beside you." }
I turned to Ma, my brows furrowed. "What do you mean by the power of Gale, Ma? And Tor... he’s the cause of the shift in power here in Paradise Bay?" My voice came out more uncertain than I intended.
Before she could respond, a presence stirred behind her. Elder Dante emerged from the shadows, his expression unreadable. He was followed closely by Rou, who looked downright stunned. His gaze locked onto Tor, and without hesitation, he rushed forward, his words tumbling out in a frantic ramble.
"I felt it," Rou said breathlessly. "The power of Sagstone Mountain, it’s here. Right here, in the Kayne lands."
My eyes flickered from Ma to Rou, my pulse quickening. What was he talking about? Why was Sagstone’s power tied to us?
Ma exhaled, her gaze distant yet sharp, like she was piecing together a puzzle she had long struggled to solve. "Your father always believed there was something in the Kayne lands beyond the vampire blood. Something deeper, something connected to the realm itself." She turned to Tor, her eyes narrowing as though truly seeing him for the first time. "And now, I understand. The moment you stepped into these lands, everything changed. Everything heightened."
A shiver ran through me as her words settled. She turned back to me, her voice steady. "Frery, have you noticed any changes in your power?"
I swallowed, nodding. "Yes. Ever since I mated with Tor, my beast’s strength has surged, and the Kayne stone... its energy is different. Stronger."
Ma stepped closer, her gaze flickering between us, her expression solemn. "That’s because your mind link is the key to the realm’s peace."
The weight of her words hit me like a tidal wave.
"Pa once told me about three hidden places of power," she continued, her voice now laced with certainty. "Three sacred points could only be united by one mind link—by true mates, bound by love. I thought it was just an old legend from the ancient vampire council..." She paused, looking at us, as if we were the final missing piece to a forgotten prophecy. "But it’s real. And you, Frery... you and Tor are that power. The force that will reunite the realm."
Elder Dante’s sharp gaze flickered between us. "What exactly does this mean?" His voice carried the weight of years of wisdom and unspoken concern.
Tor exhaled; his expression unreadable as he stepped forward. "We should all sit." His voice, steady yet firm, left no room for argument.
Everyone settled into the surrounding chairs one by one, though the tension in the room was thick and palpable. Tor remained standing, his presence commanding, as he began to speak.
"A few nights ago, I visited the Lycan Haven chambers in Ragar Mountain," he started. "The Guardian there told me something, something that changes everything. My awakening, it was fated. But the Bay Shifter pack elders—" his jaw tightened "—have always believed that Gale was a threat."
A murmur rippled through the room, but no one interrupted. Tor continued.
"It was prophesied that two minds would unite and create peace in this world. That their bond would be unbreakable and powerful enough to restore balance. But with that union..." He paused, his eyes darkening as they met mine. "The evil that has lurked in the shadows for centuries will rise. And with it, the greed, the hunger, for the power of our mind link."
A heavy silence followed his words. I could practically see the wheels turning in everyone’s minds, their faces twisted in deep thought and growing concern.
. "So, you’re saying that your bond, yours and Frery’s, will not only bring peace but also awaken something... darker?" Qadira voiced her thoughts.
Tor gave a slow nod. My fingers instinctively sought his, and the moment our hands intertwined, warmth spread through me, steadying my pulse. He turned to me, his gaze softening just enough to soothe the storm brewing in my chest.
"Are you worried, mate?" he asked, his voice low, just for me.
I squeezed his hand, meeting his gaze with unwavering determination. "Not as long as I have you."
Tor’s grip on my hand tightened slightly, his piercing gaze locked onto mine. "Good," he murmured, his voice a steady anchor in the storm of uncertainty swirling around us. Then, his expression darkened, his next words sending a shiver down my spine.
"Because I can sense the evil."
The room stilled, all eyes snapping to him. A hush settled over us, thick with anticipation.
"I sensed it the minute I stepped into Kayne land," Tor continued, his voice unwavering. "The evil the Guardian spoke of... it’s already here. It lingers in Paradise Coven, lurking toward Blood Stone Mountain."
A heavy silence followed, pressing down on us like an invisible force. My pulse quickened as I processed his words. If the threat was that close, then time was slipping through our fingers faster than we realized.
Then, without warning, Tor’s power surged.
A force unlike anything I’d felt before pulsed through our connection, sending a rush of energy crackling through the air. My breath caught as our minds, our very souls, collided in a way that felt both foreign and familiar, as if we had always been meant to exist in this state of unity. Our thoughts became one. I gasped as images flooded my mind—visions of shadows curling over the Blood Stone Mountain, whispers of an ancient force stirring beneath the land, reaching, waiting. The energy was dark, hungry, and all too aware of us.
Tor’s presence within my mind was strong, grounding. You feel it too, don’t you? his voice echoed through the bond. I swallowed hard, my fingers curling around his. Yes. The others remained still, watching us, unaware of the silent conversation unfolding between us. But they could feel the shift. They could sense the power crackling between Tor and me like a storm waiting to break.
A sudden shiver ran down my spine, sharp and unnatural. The air around us thickened, charged with something unseen yet suffocatingly present. My fingers twitched at my sides as my beast stirred within me, sensing what my mind had yet to grasp.
Then, it hit me. A force, dark, ancient, and seething with fury, lurking deep within the Blood Stone Mountain. It wasn’t just there. It was watching. Tor stiffened beside me. His grip on my hand tightened, his chest rising and falling in slow, controlled breaths. But I could feel it through our link, the tension, the silent rage building inside him in response to the thing that slithered beneath the earth.
"You feel it too," I whispered. My voice barely carried over the eerie silence that had settled around us.
Tor’s golden eyes darkened, his jaw clenched. "It’s awake."
A pulse of sheer malevolence radiated from the mountain, a slow, heaving breath of pure hatred. My skin prickled as the sensation coiled around us, thick as tar, burning with an ancient hunger. The darkness knew us. It burned with anger at the awakening of the Lycan blood. It seethed at the power of the Vampire mate bond. It wanted us. I gasped as another wave of it surged through me, the weight of its fury pressing against my chest. "It’s angry, Tor. It wants the power, our power."
Tor exhaled slowly, his free hand balling into a fist. "No." His voice was low, firm, defiant. "It wants to take it."
A deep rumble echoed from the mountain’s core, the very ground beneath us vibrating with its wrath. It wasn’t just lurking anymore. It was rising. I met Tor’s gaze, our minds linking in silent understanding. This wasn’t just a distant threat. It wasn’t something we could outrun. The darkness was coming for us. And it would stop at nothing.
"How is it that we can feel the evil power?" Ma whispered, her voice barely audible over the thick silence that had settled in the room.
Tor and I turned to her, and I noticed the shock etched into everyone’s faces. The weight of realization pressed down on us like a suffocating force. Qadira’s jaw dropped, her eyes widening as if something had just clicked in her mind.
Aurora swallowed hard before murmuring, " I felt it too. The darkness in Blood Stone Mountain. It’s been there this whole time."
"How did we miss it?" Aggrey demanded, his voice sharp with frustration. His hands curled into fists at his sides, the tension in his stance unmistakable.
A slow, deliberate movement caught my eye as Armon pushed back his chair and stood. His expression twisted with fury, his fangs glinting as he hissed through clenched teeth.
"This is connected to Silas Garth and Soran Garth," he spat, his voice dripping with venom. "Those damn brothers have always been evil. Since the day they were born. I suggest we invade Blood Stone Mountain one way or the other. "
"No," I refuted vehemently, my voice sharp and unwavering. The tension in the room crackled like a storm waiting to break. All eyes snapped to me, but I refused to back down.
"We must tread carefully before we move," I continued, my pulse thrumming with urgency. "If we act recklessly, we risk playing into the enemy’s hands. We need to know exactly who from Bay Shifter has arrived... and where the evil truly resides."
A heavy silence followed my words, thick with unspoken thoughts. I could see the frustration in Aggrey’s clenched fists, the unease flickering across Aurora’s face, but none of them challenged me.
Dante gave a slow nod, his expression grave. "You’re right," he admitted. "Charging in blind would be foolish." He exhaled and straightened, the weight of leadership settling onto his shoulders. "I’ll deploy the secret guards immediately. We will find out who it was before nightfall tomorrow. In the meantime,it would be better we plan ahead and then take a rest"
