Chapter 111: A SECRET MEETING
Chapter 111: A SECRET MEETING
{"One who aspires wisdom attains it"}
"So do I," I piped up, making everyone burst into another round of laughter. The ice had finally broken, and the tension in the room began to ease. Ma was the first to speak again. She turned to Tor and asked how he had managed to reach Paradise Coven.
Tor recounted the journey from Hanka Island, explaining how he and Rou had hidden by the beach. Then, his voice grew heavier as he described the army of over five hundred vampires he had encountered, vampires infected with the vampire bug. A wave of anger flickered across everyone’s faces. Lowering his voice, he admitted that they had to kidnap a guard to lead him to me.
Ma chuckled. "Good thing I knocked out the guards, just in case one of them ran back to Marcel to report."
A soft chuckle escaped Rou, and I could tell he was admiring Ma’s cunning.
"You mean to tell me there are more of them?" Dante hissed.
Rou nodded; his expression dark. "I’d bet my life that there is far more than what Tor and I saw. They’re being moved."
Aggrey shot to his feet, anger radiating from him. "That explains why we never found them at Bloodstone Mountain! They must have been relocated in a hurry."
Armon’s jaw tightened. "Then we need to track them down before they’re moved again."
Tor’s gaze sharpened. "Is there a shipping harbor in Paradise Coven?"
I stiffened. "Yes, to the east of the mountain."
A heavy silence fell over us as realization struck. "The infected vampires," Tor whispered, his voice grim, "are being shipped to the Bay Shifter Pack."
Even before we could recover from Tor’s words, a commotion erupted outside. Elder Dante vanished in a whisker, moving so fast that it was almost as if he had disappeared into thin air. Mere seconds later, he was back—dragging a guard with him.
"What is it?" Dante demanded, his voice sharp.
The guard kept his head bowed, speaking hurriedly. "I came to inform you, Elder Dante, of something I overheard from the guards stationed at the mountain," he said, his words tumbling over one another in urgency. "Lord Marcel is holding a secret meeting with Idris, Tio, Desmond, and Byron. The guards say two visitors arrived by boat and docked on the east side of Bloodstone Mountain."
A ripple of tension spread through the room. "Their arrival sent Lord Marcel into a panic," the guard continued, his voice barely above a whisper. "He called for an urgent meeting right away and even sent guards to Paradise Coven City to summon two men.
Dante’s eyes narrowed. "Who?"
The guard swallowed hard. "I swear I saw them," he stammered. "It was the old General... Silas Garth. He was there, along with his brother, Soran Garth. Both rushed straight to Bloodstone Mountain from Paradise Coven city. "
Silas Garth. The name alone sent a chill down my spine.
"Those two evil brothers?" Dante hissed, his eyes burning with fury. "I knew Lord Marcel had accomplices behind his twisted schemes."
The guard nodded hastily before continuing. "I overheard the other guards whispering... Lord Marcel is planning to take down the Lycan shifter. He has someone close to the Lycan, someone feeding him information. That informant told him that the Lycan had gone to Ragar Mountain."
A heavy silence fell over the room as the words sank in. I could feel the weight of the revelation pressing down on all of us.
Dante’s voice broke the tension. "Did they say anything else? Any more information about the Lycan shifter?"
The guard hesitated, then lowered his voice to a whisper. "It is said... the Lycan’s powers are unstable. That’s why he went into hiding in Ragar Mountain. And that weakness," the guard swallowed hard, "has made Lord Marcel more eager than ever to launch an attack on the Bay Shifter Pack."
"Thank you for your hard work," Dante praised the guard, his tone firm yet appreciative. Without another word, he turned and rushed out of the house.
Before he could disappear completely, Nessa stood up, crossing her arms. "I better get someone to watch this guard," she stated. "Otherwise, he’ll end up dead before sunrise."
Dante smirked, pausing briefly at the doorway. "That won’t be necessary," he replied. "This guard is my man—one of the best undercover royal guards. He operates in the shadows. No one will touch him."
"It seems our Lord Marcel is growing impatient," I remarked, my voice laced with suspicion.
Tor furrowed his brows. "The real question is, who’s feeding him information from the Bay Shifter Pack?"
"We have a mole," I confirmed. "It would be best for me to send word to Ralph and warn him."
Qadira tilted her head. "And how exactly will you do that?"
Rou smiled, a knowing glint in his eyes. "I just need a quiet place where I can connect my powers to the earth and the realm. I’ll send the message through the mountain."
Before anyone could respond, Ma stood up. "I know just the place," she declared.
We all turned to her in shock. She simply shrugged, as if it wasn’t a big deal, then gestured for Rou to follow her. Without hesitation, he did. Dante, of course, was hot on their heels, his possessiveness over Ma more than obvious.
Tor leaned in closer to me and asked in a hushed tone, "Is your mother dating Dante?"
Qadira let out a chuckle before I could respond. "I hope so," she mused, "because judging by the way Rou is ogling at Ma, Dante might have some serious competition."
"I doubt Dante will let Rou anywhere near Ma," I chuckled, joining in the laughter.
Just then, Aurora’s voice cut through the conversation, directed at Tor. "How come you don’t look dangerous?" she asked, her head tilted in curiosity. "Everyone says the Lycan is a deadly force, but I don’t see it. My shifter beast can sense danger from miles away, and there’s nothing about you that screams danger to me."
Nessa nodded in agreement, lacing her fingers with Aurora’s. "I feel the same way," she added.
I smirked, waiting for Tor’s response. He studied Aurora for a moment before speaking. "You must be Aurora. I’ve heard about what you went through," he said, his voice steady yet gentle. "But you seem stronger now. I can feel your mind link healing and I know that Frery will always protect you."
Aurora smiled at his words and nodded. Nessa’s eyes widened slightly as she turned to Tor. "Wait... You can feel her mind link?"
Tor nodded. "Not just hers. I can feel the mind link of everyone in this room."
A hushed silence fell over us. "What?" Aggrey whispered, his shock evident.
Tor exhaled slowly, as if trying to make sense of it himself. "I don’t know how to explain it," he admitted. "But my powers... They’ve been different ever since I arrived at Paradise Bay. And when I entered the Kayne lands, they heightened even more and I feel connected to everything. "And then he turned to me and his eyes bore into me.
I pushed through his mind link and then I felt it.
Tor wasn’t just connected to me. He was connected to everything in Paradise Coven. His presence rippled through the mind links around us, an unseen force pressing against the threads that tied us all together. But what truly stunned me was the surge of power radiating from him. It wasn’t just his connection; it was the intensity of it. His beast, Gale, lingered in the distance, watchful, but not interfering.
Shock coursed through me as I locked eyes with Tor. Through our mating bond, I sent the words directly into his mind. Your mind link’s power has heightened. He responded in the same way, his voice threading through my thoughts. Ragar Mountain gave me the power of the Lycan ancestors.
I nodded, processing the weight of his revelation. The moment we turned back to face the others, the astonishment on their faces was undeniable. The silence stretched until Qadira finally found her voice. "Wait, your mind links are connected?" she asked, her gaze shifting between us. "You can communicate with each other?"
"Our bond allows our mind link to be as one. Our beasts are connected," I responded, my voice steady despite the weight of my words.
The stunned expressions around the room were almost comical. I could see the disbelief in their eyes, their minds struggling to grasp what this meant.
Before anyone could speak, Ma appeared in the doorway, looking flustered. Her usual composure was shaken, and that alone sent a ripple of unease through me.
"Frery," she said, breathless, "everything in Kayne Land is heightened. The power of the land has risen, surging like never before." She paused, her gaze flickering to Tor, then back to me. "And I think I know why." A silence settled over the room, thick with anticipation. "It’s all because of Tor and his Lycan beast Gale"
