Blood Nemesis
Chapter 38: Teach 2

Chapter 38: Teach 2

"Shut up! Your scream is unpleasant." Oliver ordered while grabbing the leg of the kid with his blood tentacles once again.

Slowly, he dragged the body towards the chair. Taking a slight pause to check his watch, Oliver sat on the chair.

"I don’t have much time. So, let’s make this quick."

Oliver crossed his legs while gazing at the kid lying bleeding on the floor.

While that was happening, the rest of the kids ran away. Oliver didn’t care about them, so he let them be.

"What’s your name?" Focusing on the leader of the bullies, he asked.

A small tentacle of blood was twisting and turning in front of him. This scared the kid enough to let out a whimper.

Although pain was coursing through his body, the kid gritted his teeth and shouted, "You don’t know who you are messing with."

Oliver was scary, but he had seen even scarier people—The ones in the gangs who recruited him were some of those. They were the kind that kill for a living. The unknown Oliver seemed weaker and less scary in comparison.

"You are done for." He sniggered when he saw Oliver was blankly staring at him.

"My people will find you and kill you. Ha ha." He laughed.

Oliver was perplexed.

How stupid could a person be? Did he seem like someone who cared about anything like that? The kid has yet to learn his lesson, he concluded.

The blood tentacle floating near him slammed downwards like an iron rod.

"AAAAAHhhh." A gut-wrenching scream resounded once again.

"What made you think I care?" Oliver spoke. "Are you perhaps living in some fantasy where your people would come and save you? Sorry to break it to you. Today, no one is coming to save you. And soon, you will wish you had never crossed paths with me." Oliver changed the plan slightly.

"So, let’s begin."

The blood tentacles didn’t stop. One after the other, it hit all the muscles on his body, creating bruises all over. The kid continued to scream until he found it difficult to breathe.

"Now, are you willing to speak?" Oliver asked.

"..ye." The kid was about to answer.

But Oliver smiled and used the blood tentacles again, making him scream in pain.

Finally, the eyes of the kid glazed over as he muttered that he was willing to speak. Now, Oliver did seem scarier than the people he knew. The thugs seem somewhat reasonable when he compares them to Oliver.

"I can speak. I can. I am ready. I am sorry." The kid muttered.

"Great, now speak. What is your name?"

"Stephen."

"Age?"

"Fifteen."

"Hmm." Oliver nodded.

"Steph, do you know about bovine screwworm?"

"Huh?" Stephen was perplexed. Why was he suddenly talking about worms?

The blood tentacle that Oliver was using changed shape into a knife when he asked that.

"No?"

"I don’t." Not daring to break eye contact, he knelt on the ground and said.

"That’s a pity. Now I have to explain it to you."

The blood knife in Oliver’s hand turned its shape again. This time, it took the shape of a whip and slammed it on Stephen’s shoulder. He winced in pain but didn’t dare say anything.

"That’s for wasting my time and making me explain it to you." Oliver pulled back the whip and changed its shape to a hollow cylinder.

"The Bovine screwworm is a parasitic larva of a rank F fly-like mana beast seen on second earth." Oliver paused to see whether Stephen was paying attention. After making sure that he was, he continued, "They are a scary bunch. After the female fly fertilizes its eggs, it searches for a host and takes off into the sky. It will search far and wide for days without sleeping to find the perfect host. And its target is anything resembling a cow."

"Then, after finding its target. The sly fly would do something terrible. It would fly above some predators and lead them to the herd of bovine beasts." Oliver paused. "Why do you think it’s doing that?" He asked.

"I don’t know."

"How can I expect you to know?" Oliver slammed the cylindrical blood rod on Stephen’s head. "Why do you even bother going to school? Fifteen years old and still doesn’t know anything about the second Earth." Oliver sighed in dismay.

Meanwhile, Stephen looked at the blood rod, fearing it might strike him again.

"The fly brings the predators because it’s incapable of injuring the bovine beast alone. It needs the host to be injured so that it can lay its egg."

"Do you understand?"

"Yes."

"Good." Oliver went back to telling the story. "So, when the predators find the bovine beasts, they will attack the herd. Many of the bovine beasts in the herd would die. But most would survive with injuries."

"The fly doesn’t care about the dead or the healthy bovines. Its attention would be focused on the injured ones."

"It’s symbiotic relationship with the predators ended there, and it was about to create a new beginning through parasitization."

"The large fly, as big as a pigeon, would fly above the injured bovine beast. It would slowly hover above it in darkness when the beast was sleeping." The tension in Oliver’s voice increased.

"What do you think will happen after that?" He asked.

"Will it lay the egg?" Stephen winced, expecting a punch, slap, or a kick.

Oliver smiled. "You are getting better at this." He praised without hitting.

Meanwhile, the hollow rod in his hand shrank to form a thin needle.

"The fly would wait till the bovine beast is in deep sleep before dropping its eggs from the sky. Like a chef sprinkling salt, it will sprinkle its eggs above the wounded part of the beast. The eggs are too tiny for the bovine beast to even sense. So, thousands of eggs the size of salt grains would stick to the bovine beast’s wound and would go unnoticed." Oliver explained with a smirk.

"In an hour or so, the eggs would hatch and drill into the wound. The larvae will look like small screws drilling into the muscles, thus they are called screw worms." Oliver explained.
