Chapter 128: Have you heard about the word confidentiality?
Chapter 128: Have you heard about the word confidentiality?
"Don’t want to hear it from me? Your Doctor? Your friend? I’m deeply hurt, Andy." Michael stuck his bottom lip out, and Andrew fought a laugh. Michael won in the end and Andrew had to cover his mouth with his hand, turning away from the man.
Michael grinned.
"You gave someone else my medical information!" Andrew protested, and winced when he realised it was a little too loud. Michael laughed.
"I gave your aunt your medical information. Don’t make it out to be that I gave some random stranger your info. Plus, she was there to help me check on you and make sure you were sane. She might be back in your life after a period of absence, but she has your best interest at heart." Michael said. "But, if you don’t want me to give her any information, I won’t. It’s your info, and as much as I am employed by someone else, I will stop if you tell me to." Andrew froze.
He had been joking, but at the same time, he had been upset that Michael hadn’t asked permission. Andrew sighed, glancing over at Kim who gave him big, green eyes and her bottom lip trembled. She was really putting in the work. Andrew didn’t even dare to look at Jenny. Andrew knew he had a weakness to blue eyes. He’d cave in a second if he met hers.
Andrew took a sip of the drink in his hand, scanning the people milling about around him who tried to steal looks at him when they thought he wasn’t looking. They all had big ears, and were probably enjoying listening in on what they were discussing.
"Just...at least message me before you share things next time. Give me a heads up." Michael’s expression grew serious and he nodded.
"As much as we are joking, the things I gave her originally was to make sure that your manifestation was on track with a normal one." Andrew felt his shoulders relax.
"You still should have contacted me." Andrew insisted and Michael raised an eyebrow.
"You were...quite busy and wouldn’t have answered even if I called." Michael made a pointed look behind him. Andrew turned, and realised he was looking at Maxwell. Ah.
"Why were you investigating into that when we were waiting for the results of my time with Max? Why are you giving yourself extra work?" Andrew asked and Michael laughed.
"Extra? It’s never extra when it comes to figuring out if you’re doing okay, Andy." Kim interrupted the boys, wrapping her arm around Michael’s shoulder.
"Be kind to him. He fought me very hard, Andy. He’s loyal." She was defending Michael, but he knew she would. He was the one who gave her an insider’s look at what was going on in his body.
Andrew closed his eyes and sighed.
"I guess I can forgive him, this time. I’m serious though, Michael. You can’t do that next time." Andrew insisted. It was a serious concern. Michael’s expression was grave as he met Andrew’s gaze.
"I didn’t know it was going to upset you this much. I honestly thought you were going to laugh it off, otherwise I would have waited. I’m sorry Andrew, I’ll make sure to get your permission if there is a next time." Andrew nodded, before pulling Michael in for a hug.
"As long as you know where you went wrong."
"Alright, enough of this. Come on you two, this is a wedding! Andy, smile, please? You look like you’re pissed." In fairness, he was angry, he just wasn’t that angry. Grumbling, he pulled away from Michael at Kim’s words and Michael took a long sip of his drink.
"Well, now that that’s over, how are you feeling? Are you doing okay? Any fluctuations so far?" Andrew shook his head at Michael’s questions.
"I actually feel...almost normal. The smells are overwhelming, but that’s about it." Andrew told him and Michael let out a relieved sigh.
"Oh thank goodness. I brought everything but the kitchen sink, but I hope I don’t have to use it. Let me know if anything changes. You can just text me and-" Andrew raised his hand, halting him.
"I didn’t bring my phone, so I can’t do that." Andrew stared at the pretty bubbles in his glass for a moment, before he chuckled and raised his gaze to Michael’s. "I’m sure that if I’m ’having a moment’ you’ll know exactly where I am." Michael’s expression grew grim. He knew it as well as Andrew that if that was the case, either Maxwell wasn’t around, or it didn’t matter.
"Well, as I said, I have damn near everything with me."
"And I’m also here." Kim piped up. "I don’t think I’m as strong as Andy, but I can at least hold my own." She told them and Andrew furrowed his brows.
"What do you mean you don’t think you’re as strong as me?" He asked and she glanced at Michael.
"You...read the reports he sent, yes?" Andrew nodded. "So you know what your pheromone levels are, right?" Again, Andrew nodded.
"Yes. Why does that matter?" Michael groaned.
"For someone so smart, when you have a blind spot, it’s fucking giant." Michael muttered, and Kim had her head in her hands. Jenny was the one who spoke up.
"Andy my dear, your pheromone levels are related to how strong they are, especially for true alphas. They rarely fluctuate once they are set and usually indicate how powerful you are. It’s related to your suppression power. I...saw your report, and I apologise if that upsets you. The numbers you had are quite high. I doubt that there is another true alpha around here, especially in this room that could resist you if you got overwhelmed." Jenny patted Kim’s arm. "Kim is quite high for her levels, but you blow her out of the park. I’d like to say that it was from your Mom, but..."
"Well, actually," Michael interrupted, excitement in his eyes. "A lot of researchers have been wondering where or who we get our pheromone levels from, so lots of trials have been popping up with good data showing that the omega of the pairing does pass on their pheromone levels in some capacity. It did not matter if the child was an omega or an alpha either. Of course, there are fewer true alphas so there isn’t any information on that, but I think we can make a reasonable assumption that the same applies there. Was Andy’s Mom particularly powerful before her passing?" Michael asked.
Andrew shrugged. He hadn’t been a part of that world when his Mom was around. He had to turn to Kim and Jenny for any knowledge on this. Kim rubbed her jaw, looking thoughtful.
"She was. There was discussion of taking her into the main family to marry her off to a good family. When she was marked by....your father, that ended, obviously, but I can’t say that didn’t play into her being marked. She was quite strong." Kim crinkled her nose. "Relatives rarely find one another’s scent pleasing, but Di was different. She smelled like...fresh baked bread mixed with a lavender syrup." Andrew, who had never heard his Mom’s scent being described before felt his eyes widen in shock.
Kim’s gaze was mischievous when she looked at Andrew again.
"You two aren’t that far off. I think it’s adorable. You carry a piece of her with you, always, Andy. I think she’d be proud to know that her scent remained with you." Andrew felt his eyes water and he covered his eyes. He was not about to cry in front of all of the important clients of the Becketts and Amir’s family.
"Don’t make me cry." Andrew protested and Kim laughed. He felt two sets of arms wrap around him, giving him a squeeze. Damn it. He knew this was going to draw Maxwell’s attention. He didn’t want to worry him.
"Andy? Are you alright?" It wasn’t Maxwell, but the soft, concerned voice of Amir. Andrew sniffed.
"I-I’m just-"
"We were reminiscing about Andy’s Mom." Kim told Amir. "Hello, Mr. Beckett. Congratulations on your big day. The ceremony was wonderful." Andrew took the few seconds that Kim greeted Amir to gather himself. He pulled his glasses off to wipe his eyes, before he slotted them back into place. Amir was shaking Kim’s and then Jenny’s hand, Amir’s grandfather only a few steps away. He winked at Andrew.
"Thank you." Amir said, his cheeks flushed with joy. "Andy played a very important part. I was so nervous." Kim laughed.
"No one noticed but the front four rows, and your new husband has a sharp enough gaze that he silenced them." Jenny told him warmly. She held onto Amir’s hand, giving it a pat. "Are you doing alright? You look like you’re glowing, but the first trimester is always rough. I had a hard time with my eldest." Jenny’s voice was so kind and thoughtful that it took Amir a second to realise what she’d said.
It took Andrew a few seconds as well.
Amir’s face fell, his expression filling with confusion as he tossed an accusing look towards Andrew who immediately held up his hands. Jenny panicked.
"Was I not supposed to say anything? Oh dear. Was it a secret? Kim?" Jenny turned to Kim and Kim quickly started doing damage control.
"Andy didn’t say anything, I just made a comment about how you were ordering so many of the same thing, and Jenny assumed it was because of cravings. Of that kind." Kim implied and everyone watched as Amir’s lips trembled. Andrew handed off the champagne flute to Kim as he gripped Amir by the shoulders and pulled him against Andrew’s chest. It had worked last time, and he hoped it worked this time.
Hearing Amir inhale his scent and then his whole body relaxing, Andrew breathed out with relief.
"We would never speak about it without your consent." Andrew told Amir, looking over his shoulder at Amir’s grandfather, giving him a panicked look. Amir nodded, pressing his forehead into Andrew’s chest.
"I-I’m sorry for doubting you for even a second. It’s just..." Amir looked at the Proctors from behind Andrew’s body. "No one else has guessed." Jenny’s expression softened just as Amir’s grandfather reached them. Andrew handed him off easily, and Amir let his grandfather wrap his arm around his shoulder.
"I am so sorry to surprise you then. I just...I just wanted to offer some comforting words." Jenny muttered quietly, her face flushing. Kim wrapped her arm around her wife’s shoulder. Amir nodded, embarrassed.
"It’s okay. I’m sorry I overreacted." Amir stared at the ground while Andrew let out a chuckle.
"I’m glad you aren’t rejecting my pheromones yet. It means that if you two get into an argument because your emotions are all over the place, you can at least crash at our place while you calm down." Kim’s eyes widened.
"You were reacting to Andy’s pheromones?" She asked, surprised, and Amir nodded.
"Yeah. It was the same when I was...when I found out and Ben wasn’t around." Kim got a glint in her eyes, and Michael picked up on it immediately.
"What? What are you thinking?" Michael looked ready to pull out his notepad.
"Well, that was something your Mom was known for, Andy. She was able to soothe other pregnant omegas. I thought that was just an omega trait, but maybe because of the way you manifested...some wires might have gotten crossed?" Kim suggested and Michael looked like he was salivating.
"Oh my. I’ve got to make a note of this!" Michael passed his nearly full flute off to a waiter and pulled the notepad that Andrew was very familiar with out of his pocket. He would have laughed if he wasn’t reeling from the new information. He couldn’t be normal, could he?
