Chapter 112: Chapter 107: That Girl Can’t Be Just a Pretty Face (Part 3)
Long Che scoffed coldly, "He’s now the captain of the Falcon Unit, directly under King Muta’s command. Do I dare yell at him? He’s practically my dad now!"
"Stop being sarcastic!" Tong Yao glared at him in exasperation. "Honey, what are we going to do about Shi Qing? That girl’s been hung up on Rui’er for ages."
Long Che furrowed his brow slightly, "She can obsess all she wants, but who ever promised her anything? That girl is too calculating. Let her into the family, and she’d sell you out in no time."
"Then how do we explain things to Ni Lu?"
"Explain what?" Long Che pinched her cheek lightly. "There’s no commitment, so we don’t owe her any explanation. Besides, that girl—do you like her, or does Rui’er like her?"
Tong Yao racked her brain, utterly puzzled, "I don’t get it either. Shi Qing is smart, capable, and polished in every way—why doesn’t a single one of us in the family like her?"
"Because she’s so polished that it feels fake. Remember her throwing Ni’er’s design drawings out as a child? And pushing her own brother into the swimming pool? You haven’t forgotten all that, have you? I think that’s her true self. Now that she’s grown up, she’s learned how to put on a facade, hiding all her imperfections. The more she acts like that, the faker she seems!" Long Che sighed in frustration, shaking his head. "Thank goodness neither of our kids fell for her. If they had, I’d have to rack my brains to set them straight."
"Every generation has its own fortune; let their love lives unfold naturally. Especially Ni’er..." Tong Yao noticed Long Che’s face darkening and shot him a glare before quickly leaving the study. Ai Ni’s situation had to be addressed gradually—first fix the son’s issue, then deal with the daughter!
Not long after, Tong Airui entered the study. Long Che gave him a once-over before saying sternly, "First, get your mother out of here. Then shut the door tight."
"Old geezer!" Tong Yao teased with a laugh as she headed back to the living room.
Long Che stared icily at his son, "I underestimated you—broke three ribs and still have the energy to flirt with girls!"
"Dad—" Tong Airui opened the door slightly, glanced outside, and seeing no one, whispered, "Don’t let Mom find out. I’m afraid she’ll worry."
"You know your mom will worry, yet you still manage to get yourself hurt!" Long Che walked up to him. "Lift up your shirt; let me see!"
"The injuries are internal..." Halfway through his sentence, Tong Airui obediently raised his shirt. Long Che moved directly behind him, staring at the bruises on his back as his expression darkened slightly. "From what I know, Xi Meichen’s kid is a complete coward. You letting him beat you like this is just humiliating for our family!"
"I let him beat me on purpose—otherwise, ten of him wouldn’t have been able to touch me... Dad, during the incident, you were still on the plane. Ai Ni and the others haven’t heard about this yet. How did you find out?"
"I have my ways of knowing!" Long Che gently lowered his son’s shirt. "Be more careful in the future. Every part of your body was a gift from me and your mom. Hurting any of it would be a massive act of disrespect toward us!"
"I promise it’ll be the last time," Tong Airui said with an apologetic smile, knowing his father was worried about him.
"Still have the gall to smile! Beaten by a coward and kicked in the ribs by a girl—it’s laughable enough for anyone in Xia Wu to joke about you!"
"Don’t blame Luo Wa. She only kicked me because I pushed her too far." Tong Airui chuckled. "Dad, that lingering issue I had when I was a kid—Luo Wa fixed it. These past few days, the images of that car crash haven’t popped into my head anymore, and I don’t feel the same rejection when I see sports cars."
"You’ve untangled that knot in your heart." Long Che raised his hand and patted his son’s shoulder. "Had I known that girl could ease your trauma, I’d have made sure you met her earlier. Then you wouldn’t have suffered for so many years."
Tong Airui grinned, "It’s not too late now. Dad, please bless us."
"If I dare not give you my blessing, your mother would eat me alive." Long Che glared at him. "I don’t know what’s so enchanting about that little girl—got both you and your mother completely bewitched!"
"Mom wouldn’t eat you, at most she wouldn’t let you into bed." Tong Airui chuckled under his breath.
"Watch your mouth, or I’ll cripple another one of your legs!" Long Che shot him a sinister look. "How’s progress on the search for her parents?"
Tong Airui furrowed his brow slightly, "I’ve had people collect DNA from all the babies and their families from St. Mary Hospital during the two weeks around her birth. We’re sorting through them one by one."
"Like finding a needle in a haystack. Are Bai Bowen and Xi Meichen still insisting she’s an abandoned baby?" Long Che furrowed his brow as well. The identical furrows on their brows made them look like they’d come from the same mold.
"Yeah, Aunt Xixi has asked them multiple times, and they’ve given the same answer every time. It seems there’s a high possibility Luo Wa was abandoned. Although she says she doesn’t want to find her biological parents, I’ll do everything I can for her. If it takes ten years or twenty years, I’ll help her find them."
Long Che glanced at him, "Need my help?"
Tong Airui quickly shook his head, "No, your work is much harder than mine. I’ll handle it myself."
Long Che paused, "That girl isn’t just a pretty trophy, is she?"
