Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife
Chapter 66: Starting the Feast

Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Starting the Feast

Upon hearing Nanzhi’s words, Lin Yicheng and Lin Ercheng took a deep breath, hunting wasn’t something you could learn easily. How could you learn without some sort of talent?

Could it be that their sister is really gifted?

Feeling a little embarrassed by the way her two brothers were staring at her as if she were some rare object, Nanzhi said, "I only know how to use a snare trap, I can’t do anything else."

"That alone is amazing," Lin Ercheng praised Nanzhi again seeing her get shy.

In Stone Village, weren’t all the men good fighters?

Yet, there were only two or three who could hunt, their two older brothers had always wanted to learn the skill.

Once, without telling their family, they snuck out to find an experienced hunter to become their teacher. As a result, they almost drove their father mad and he had to drag them back home from the mountain top, kicking their butts all the way.

Now, even their plump younger sister could hunt, though they, as her brothers, couldn’t do anything.

Not knowing what her brothers were thinking as they sank into depression, Nanzhi laughed off their mood, asking them to help with the rabbit and the pheasant first, and promised to teach them how to set traps later.

Only then did they become a little more spirited.

Watching her brothers each carry a rabbit into the backyard, Nanzhi suddenly remembered something and called out to them. "Leave one rabbit and don’t kill it. We’ll take it home for dinner. If we kill it now, we won’t be able to keep it in this heat."

"No need, no need, we have the pheasant at home. You keep this rabbit to eat with Gougou...with Zhiyu." Just when Lin Yicheng was about to say "Gougou," he found his little nephew looking at him and quickly corrected himself.

"Zhiyu and I can’t finish it on our own. If you don’t bring a rabbit home, I won’t teach you how to tie a snare knot."

"Okay, we will take one with us later."

Just when Lin Yicheng was about to say something else, his brother pulled his sleeve and hastily shut him up.

Once they learned how to catch rabbits, whenever they caught something they could send it to their plump sister.

The two brothers exchanged a glance before getting to work.

"Little Fatty, do you want me to peel the rabbit skin for you? You can either keep it and take care of it yourself or I can take it back, process it and send it to you later."

"Big brother, Second brother, you know how to process rabbit skin?" Nanzhi of course knew that rabbit skins were valuable. After all, her late husband was a hunter and the processed skin could be sold for hundreds of copper pieces.

However, she had gotten pregnant with Zhiyu shortly after her marriage and never had the chance to learn how to process animal skin. It never crossed her mind that her brothers would be able to.

"That is the only thing we know how to do." Lin Yicheng answered with a silly smile.

Back when he took his brother to find a teacher, although they were dragged back home by their father within a day, the teacher did teach them how to process fur before they left.

"Alright, then I’ll bother big brother and second brother." Nanzhi nodded with a smile.

Worried that the slaughter of the rabbit might frighten Shen Zhiyu, she sent him to the main room to play before she could relax.

As for herself, even though she was afraid, she had no choice but to watch carefully. She had to learn how to slaughter rabbits and pheasants quickly, otherwise she couldn’t always take her catch back to Stone Village and ask her brothers for help.

Working swiftly, the two brothers finished processing the rabbit and pheasant in less than half an hour, and Lin Ercheng even took the time to clean some feathers from the pheasant’s tail.

Looking at the feathers handed to her, Nanzhi was stunned for a moment, then broke into a smile.

"Go ahead and take it, didn’t you love these things when you were a kid?"

With a contraction in her heart, she held back her tears, accepted the tail feathers, and said in a choked voice, "I’m not a child anymore."

"So skinny and small, what are you if you’re not a child?" Lin Yicheng shot her a glance.

After processing the rabbit and pheasant, Nanzhi helped tidy up the "battlefield" before she, along with her brothers, retreated into the main room.

She gave one of the pheasant feathers to the little boy, and kept the remaining two for herself.

Then she handed each of her brothers a long hemp rope, and began to demonstrate how to tie a rope knot and how to identify signs of a rabbit’s presence.

In the end, the way her two brothers looked at her had changed, making her feel a little awkward.

After all, she had watched so many survival-themed TV dramas and variety shows in the past, yet she had only learned this.

As for how to dig traps, she had learned it as a child when she was watching cartoons, from the way the protagonist caught sheep...

"Then, we’ll be going first."

Lin Yicheng said, ready to take Lin Ercheng and leave, but it was only when Nanzhi coughed intentionally that they hastily came back for the rabbit.

"We will finish treating the rabbit skin first then come back to you!"

"Ah."

Watching the two brothers heading briskly towards the village exit, Nanzhi closed the yard door and returned to the living room.

"Mom, don’t uncles eat rabbits?" Shen Zhiyu asked, clutching the feather tail he loved, noticed that his two uncles had left, with a pout on his face.

He hasn’t played with his two uncles yet!

"Your uncles are in a hurry to go back."

Little Zhiyu nodded his head, then took the feather tail and went off to play on his own.

Looking at the cleaned rabbit and game chicken, Nanzhi pondered with her hands.

The rabbit could be grilled, but how should she handle the game chicken?

There were no refrigerators or ice boxes here, she couldn’t keep it for long.

While thinking about this, Nanzhi recalled the smoked chicken she had eaten before.

They did reap a harvest today, but what if they can’t catch anything in the next few days?

It might be better to start saving now...

No sooner said than done, taking advantage of the daylight, Nanzhi began to move her hands.

The game chicken weighed about three pounds, which was just right.

She used two clean bamboo pieces, one horizontal and one vertical, to prop the chicken and then brought it under the roof of the backyard to air dry.

Water is a no-go for making smoked chicken, as it will spoil the meat. She had to air it thoroughly for a day before starting.

After hanging the chicken, Nanzhi washed her hands and began preparing to roast the rabbit.

It would be too hot in the yard under the sun. She went directly to the kitchen, removed the big pot from the stove, and noticed that the size of the stove was suitable and just right to fit the rabbit.

She placed a small stool at the kitchen door, and Shen Zhiyu obediently sat watching his mother roast the rabbit. When he saw her sweat, he went to wipe it for her, and when she coughed from the smoke, he went and got water for her.

In this way, the mother and son were busy for an hour before finally having dinner.

Nanzhi didn’t forget about Mrs. Liu’s family, she cut a small piece of rabbit meat, put it in a bowl and sent it over with Zhiyu’s help.

The little fellow naturally agreed and took the bowl to the next-door neighbor’s house.

Mrs. Liu’s family was also about to have dinner when they heard some noise at the door and thought it was their little son returning. They immediately got up to open the door.

But they were surprised to see not their son, but Zhiyu standing at the door. "Zhiyu, are you here to play with Doudou? He is with..."

Before she could finish her sentence, Shen Zhiyu handed over the bowl in his hand and ran home quickly.

"This child..." Mrs. Liu looked at the bowl in her hand, momentarily taken aback. When she smelled the aroma of meat, she quickly closed the door and went inside.

This was a bowl of rabbit meat!

After dinner, Nanzhi was not idle. She took another two bowls and went out the door.

One bowl was for Shen Miaomiao’s family and the other was for Shen Dashan.

Aunt Guihua looked at the bowl of rabbit meat, her face conflicted. She had never thought that the Lin girl would share her food.

Looking at the bowl of rabbit meat on the table, no one in Shen Dashan’s family said a word.

"I told you, the Lin girl is a good one."
