Chapter 85: Where the North winds blow

Without a word, he shifted out of his beast form and stood tall and strong. The beast had an angelic face but his voice was that of the devil. It could chill one to the bone.

He walked forward with zeal, like a king, he didn’t mind his naked state and walked out of the cave into the light. The fresh breeze of the forest washed over him breaking a smile from his face.

The least time he left this place, the skies were dyed in red and the strong stench of death filled the air. Now, it was very different. The air was fresh and the skies were a clear blue? The sight made him dizzy and nauseous!

He sighed bitterly and walked further into the forest and there was indeed peace.

"What are your plans?" the group that had followed him asked.

The white haired male smiled. What else....to wreck havoc!" he let out a devious laughter that his red eyes glittered.

Back at the city of Beasts.

Shawn was going down the staircase when a pung of headache hit him so hard that he lost his footing and went rolling down the staircase.

The caused the other men in the house to come over and see what was wrong. They were surprised to see Shawn on the ground wincing in pain!

Ken rushed over and tried to help Shawn up but it was useless. Shawn seemed to have lost consciousness.

Ash looked up to the second floor and rushed over to check on Sydney. Whatever happened to them had some effect on their mates though it usually wasn’t that much. Only death could be fully felt by a female if her mate died.

Whatever happened was extremely odd! First and foremost, Shawn’s sight had never hindered him in the least for the years he had lived. He could actually be considered more capable than most normal beastmen.

When Ash arrived in the room, he saw that Sydney had sat up on her bed and was groaning as she felt a sudden headache. She wasn’t spared as she felt the dull ache in her netherlands. She wasn’t yet well but her body was much better now.

Ken looked at Shawn who was unconscious in his room. Scott had also rushed over and had checked on him but everything seemed to be fine. Pulse and blood pressure were normal!

"What’s wrong with him?" Caden asked with concern.

"I have no idea. His body seems okay. We can only wait and ask one he wakes up." Scott added and Caden nodded.

Leaving him in his room, the initial discussion they were having was postponed and everyone was back to their usual routine.

"Ken...is the matter I asked you to handle done?" Scott asked and Ken nodded.

"Yes. We managed to gather all of them. The count was up to 300." he reported.

Good! The snake clan should be done with the construction by now. I’ll go out and inspect then will let you know when to move them." Scott said and stood up to leave the house.

Ash who had finished checking up on Sydney also followed after Scott, this was after all, business of his city.

Weeks back when they went out to visit the herbivore clans, Sydney got a chance to visit the outer part of the city and the state of the place brought her to tears. The sight of abandoned and skinny cubs tore to pieces that they had to postpone their visit. She had toured around the outer part of the city and she requested Ash to do something about it.

Despite the existence of survival for the fittest, it wasn’t fair that little Cuba had to go through something like this. If she even couldn’t stand it while she was on earth, what of the fact that these cubs and birds would become humans once they grew up! Without nuturing and love from family and friends, even clansi..who would blame these little guys from becoming a problem latter in their older years?

With no father figure to guide and no mother figure to love....they were bound to grow up broken!

How could Ash say no? Scott also volunteered to handle all necessary work needed to establish a place for the abandoned and misplaced young beasts under the age of 16.

Sydney had chosen to become a foster mother. Her idea was at first highly rejected by her mates but they couldn’t talk her out of it. She had even asked them if they were afraid of competition from cubs in daipers? It was only when Scott helped explain that they maned up and agreed to take on the roles of foster fathers.

Construction was unde the snake clan since they were also constructing their castle for the first time in the city of beasts.

Ken was in charge of gathering all the abandoned young beasts. Since he had a fall out with his family, only a few of his loyal followers volunteered to work and help him out.

Caden and Shawn were assigned with looking after and having meals delivered to this little ones at the current gathering arena.

This was an act, the first of its kind in the beast world and many didn’t know what to think of it. They could only watch and see!

Scott and Ash arrived at the site where the home had been established and found a huge number of snake beastmen workinf diligently. Scott admired their great enthusiasm despite not expecting any pay in return. The place was according to Sydney’s design and every single detail wasn’t missed.

Seeing Scott arrive. Many stopped working and came to greet him. It had been an order from their Lord.

They knew this male was ’weak’ but he was their lord’s female’s brother and the female loved her brother alot. For the sake of their lord, they had to do their best and present a good image of the snake clan.

Everyone had worked hard! Thank you!" Scott said with a small smile amd the beastmen were shocked.

You are welcome." One replied and the other also echoed along.

How’s the progress? Do you still need some more days?" Ash asked as he walked over to go inspect the place further.

No, city lord. The building is complete and were were only cleaning it up" The snake chief answered immediately. Ash was pleased and he went into see more of the place.

Falcon clan.

"What’s taken them so long?" The Falcon king paced to and fro! It had been days upon days but there was still no good news!

No need to fret My king....I’m sure we will succeed this time round! Snatching a mer-female from their island won’t be that difficult!" The aide said all he could to calm down his lord.

"We don’t have much time! We can’t let that female mate with the snake beastman! If we present him a mer female whose more beautiful than the one the city lord is flaunting...we will finally be able to draw him to our side."

Before the aide could say more, loud cry from the guards of their clan reached them and immediately, the King rushed out to see. Finally! the group he had sent out had returned! And that was a cry of victory!!!

It was midday when Shawn regained consciousness. He frowned as he tried to recall what happened but his mind was a little blank. He sat up from his stone bed and walked out of them room down to the main floor. Ken was in the kitchen preparing their meal. Despite being clumsy, atleast his meals weren’t poisoned.

However, there was a high likelihood of setting this place on fire.

Shawn rushed over and took the ladle from him.

"You are finally up!" Ken said with a twisted mouth and sat himself down on the long stools. "What the heck happened to you?" Ken asked as his tail swung happily! He was saved from the fire!

"Have no idea." Ken replied and went to clean the vegetables/grass that Sydney and her brother ate along with meat.

Ever since her brother joined them, Sydney’s meals and food intake had improved alot and they had inturn learnt alot from Scott. He was knowledgeable, even more than the city witch.

"Look at him! I carry you all the way to your room and you give me a three word answer! I need details..details!!!!" Ken hissed. Even his spine was still hurting from carrying such a huge beast. He had wanted to shift the burden but Shawn was his clansmen which meant he was closer to holding responsibility for his fellow clansmen.

If not for the glare he got from Scott and Titan, he would have dragged him up the staircase.

Shawn sighed and covered up the meat to boil. He put away the cleaned vegetables into a stone bowl and turned to look at Ken.

Ken fell off the high stool to the ground in shock!
