Chapter 179: Storm clan, half beastmen

Ash handed the matters concerning the females and those survivors to the respective persons to deal with them. His main objective had been to deal with the traitors and once they were settled, it was time for him to head back to the city and accompany Sydney.

However, before they could get to leave, Sydney suggested that they don’t return to the city just yet.

It was an abrupt decision. Her mates didn’t ask why and only agreed. Ash asked for a message to be sent back to the different kings.

It was only the following day that Sydney and her mates set off. This path was familiar to them and their target was not to leave this territory.

They set off with Sydney riding on Shawn’s back.

We shall assimilate ourselves with those different clans and try to see if we can find out what they plan to do."

It won’t be easy though...." Enzo informed them honestly. Assimilating with those people, if they aren’t familiar with you, then it’ll be hard for them to say what they plan."

We will see how to deal with that when we meet them then." Sydney also understood this fact but she had an idea on how to deal with those people. Her only worry was whether her mates would agree to her idea.

The journey went on smoothly and despite it being the dry season, there was sufficient she’d from the forest canopy. The smaller beasts played around in the forest and those that were out hunting would stay as far as possible once they noticed Sydney and her gang’s presence.

They took breaks every now and then, to eat, mainly for Sydney, to wash and stock up on water when they came across small streams. Their journey continued on peacefully till the morning of the second day.

Caden returned to their small camp base with news.

There’s a lion clan up ahead." He said once everyone was gathered around the small fire where breakfast was being prepared by Greg.

Lion clan?" Ray looked at Caden. What kind of lions did you see?" He asked.

I didn’t get close enough but I saw a great number of females amongst them. Also, they don’t seem to be advancing towards the city anymore. It’s like they decided to settle down there." Caden replied.

Were they a specific lion clan or...."

They were mixed up. I saw various lion kinds, some white, others golden, black ones...there were also other beasts amongst them. It wasn’t only the lion beastmen." Caden explained.

Hearing of black lions, Ash akd the others all turned to face Ray. He was also a black lion and those was most likely related to him.

Why don’t we go and check them out?" Sydney suggested.

We might run into some familiar faces if we go there." Enzo cautioned. He understood Ray’s circumstances and going off just like that could turn up disastrous.

Sydney turned to Ray. If you don’t wish to go there, then we can just avoid them." She didn’t know about his circumstances but seeing how uncomfortable he was, it would he best to take his mental state into consideration.

Ray thoight it through and took a deep breathe. There was a high possiblity that he could run into his family if he went to that settlement but was he the kind that ran away from his troubles? Maybe hack in the day when he was still a little lad, but not anymore. He was already a big man who even had off springs. And he had also kept this matter to himself for long.

Before we set off, I need you all to know more about me...." Ray started speskong and everyone listened attentively.

It was only when it was close to lunch time that he came to a stop. Everyone was dazed after learning about his past. Even Ash and the few who knew bits about him, they didn’t know the matter would be so big!!!

Big families really did have big skeletons in their closests. It was terrifying just thinking about it.

Do you still wish to of over there?" Sydney asked carefully. If it were her, she’d prefer not to go to such a place. Infact, even mere thinking of them would make her feel like killing them all!!! Even if they were her family!

I’m sure." Ray said determinedly. He wasn’t a weakling like before. He’d go for a head on clash with him and ensure that he is eliminated.

Then we will set off and enter the village in the night. Once we are there, we will evaluate the situation before we get to move." Ash suggested and everyone agreed.

Sydney, tell me the herbs you used to hide your scent as a female, I’ll go and gather them." Ray said.

Sure. The names differ from the ones you might know them by but I’m sure you won’t mistaken them for anything. I have a sketch of them and their distinctive features." Sydney said as she took out her skin hide book. She handed it to Ray and after scanning through them, he left right away.

I’ll need two stones..I’ll need to grind them into powder.." she explained and Kevin went to find the stones.

Everything was gathered in short of an hour and Sydney grinded the herbs separately and dried them over in the sun for a short while.

Here’s the knitted skin bag." Ken who was seated close to her.

Thanks." She offered him a smile and took the skin bag from him. She gathered all those herbs together and poured them into the skin bag then tied it over to her waist.

Her mates observed her without question. Enzo and Greg were a little bit quizzical about this method since during the entire process of grinding and sun drying up until mixing the herbs, there was no noticeable effect. Infact, they begun to hold doubts about this method but didn’t ask.

After fastening her skin bag around her waist, Sydney patted her hands and stood up. "I’m done." She said excitedly and looked at her mates who didn’t make a move. "What?" She asked looking at their expressions.

I don’t smell anything." Enzo commented.

The others nodded in agreement. There was no scent.

It’s because one of the main herbs is lacking and besides, if I stick by you guys, your scents will further mask my own. Let’s not waste any more time. Let’s set off." She said and looked around wondering who will be carrying her.

Enzo walked over and carried her in that she was seating on his forearm. Sydney looked at Enzo with her big eyes and he merely smiled at her.

She turned to look at the others and there seemed to be no disagreement with him carrying her.

When did you guys call a truce?" She asked her voice laced with shock.

What do you mean call a truce? We were never in a fight in the first place." Ken said. He shook his body and took on his wolf form proceeding to walk forward.

Do you think I’m an idiot? You guys were clearly at logger heads!!" Sydney pointed out making Enzo clear his throat and avoid her gaze.

She looked at Ash and he merely smiled, Caden, he only shook his body and hit the skies.

We dealt with our feuds, so there’s no need for you to worry." Kevin told her.

When? How come I didn’t see!!" Sydney refused to believe these guys had settled the matter so easily. Did you guys fight?" She asked probing.

A little." Kevin was honest but his honesty earned him a glare from the others.

"Loose mouth!" Ken sneered with an eye roll.

You...." She wanted to jump and smack Ken but Enzo had her held securely. She could barely move herself from his grasp. "Okay. It’s good that you’ve settled your matters. I won’t probe further." She said dejectedly and leaned her head on Enzo’s.

She cast Ray a look and fell silent. She turned her attention to Core. "Does something like that really exist?" She asked

It does." Core replied. Some beastmen clans know of the spirit beasts and the advantages they enjoy. For big clans like the Storm lion clan, it is possible that their ancestors had contact with spirit beasts and the spirit forest. There’s also a likelihood of mating between them."

Does that mean that Ray can be considered a half beastman?" He asked shocked.

I’m not at my full power right now and he doesn’t have his spirit with him. If his spirit was close, I’d be able to tell more about him but as of now, we can only wait and reach his storm clan and see. If any of his relatives happens to have spirit beast bloodline, them there’s a high possiblity which also led to the reason why they wanted to kill him secretly." Core gave her assessment.
