Chapter 151: Hound Rabbits.
Sydney’s eyes flickered open looking at the black cave ceiling blankly. It was already morning but she was the only one still sleeping in their grass nest.
The dream she had was still vivid in her mind, she was gathering her mind on this matter. The dream gave her a huge sense of dread but what baffled her the most were the other people she saw in her dream.
Ray was also there and he was a complete beastman and she...she had a familial bond with him and the others...how did she know Ray from before? As far as her mind served, she had only met him in the beast city in the forest.
Something wasn’t right!
She rose from the bed and went out, with a greeting she walked over to a small stone pail and washed her face, her mind still rolling but no matter how hard she tried, it was like her mind was knocking into some form of invincible barrier that didn’t allow her to know more. More like her mind was in another’s grasp!
She wasn’t exactly interactive in the following day and her gaze on Ray deepened day in and day out. None of them bothered her since she seemed extremely sensitive at this point in time, like something was bugging her.
However, how could those that knew her be unable to tell this behaviour of hers? Also, the gaze she was giving Ray could definitely impend a deep hole into his soul! Like she was searching for something.
Ray at some point wanted to come over to her and answer all the questions she had but at the same time, he didn’t dare do so. Reason? He was scared! In a sense of fear and dread.
After a few days, Sydney and her entourage set off from the cave, however before they left, Sydney asked Ash to help her obtain a piece from the black stone. This was something that she felt would he extremely valuable in the future.
They moved at a much stable pace with Caden scouting the area for them up ahead. There was silence during the journey. Sydney wanted to ask Ray if she knew him from somewhere before but found it was extremely silly to ask! She could only bite her tongue and hold back as they continued with their journey.
When night came, they came to a small hill and made camp. From here, they could see a silver light that seemed to touch the sky. If one had ventured this farz they’d be able to know that it was the mountain range that the beasts from the adjoining continent were trying to cross. But from where they were, it was only a tiny streak of sliver. It was that far!!!
Let’s rest for the time being." She said and everyone agreed. Though it wasn’t necessary for them, Sydney needed to eat and rest.
This spot was a really good one that could allow one to see all directions and be able to make a head and tail of the situation incase something happened.
When night fell, Sydney dared not close her eyes, that dream had left a big impact on her and she was yet to understand what exactly was going on!
The night winds rustled gently and Sydney kept her eyes locked on the dreamy night sky glittering with billions of stars. This made her think of how far she was from home. Her mother, father and other siblings...she really missed them, even if Scott her favourite was here, she still missed the others!
If time permitted, she’d love to take her new family back to earth and show them around. They’d surely be shocked and have silly expressions.
The wind blazed and a shiver wrecked her body but oddly, it wasn’t from the cold. She looked at the side from the corner of her eye and saw that neither of her mates seemed the least alarmed. However, there’s no way her intuition would fail her. Something wasn’t right.
She had been using Ken’s beast side belly as her pillow, she rolled over and lay on her stomach, her actions were subtle and didn’t draw her mates’ attention one bit.
But for her, the moment she flipped, she locked gazes with a pair of blood red eyes not far from them. Her green eyes flickered with a dangerous light. She looked around further and saw many more eyes locked on them, but they weren’t as blood red as the one she had first looked into.
She laughed. They had actually been besieged but completely unaware!!!
Thankfully, the nightmare from the previous night didn’t let her sleep which saved her and her family a great deal.
The other party though discovered by Sydney didn’t make a single move but kept glancing on their direction. She tilted her head to the side in utter confusion and the other party did the same, she blinked and got the same response.
It’d have been an extremely cute gesture but what cute animals wandered the night?
Zero!
The other party still had cover from the darkness and all that was left was the eyes, and they glittered!!!
Guys?" She whispered but all of them clearly heard her. Don’t move, maintain your positions." She instructed and none moved but we’re curious what was going on.
If i told you we are under ambush, how many of you would believe me?" She asked in passing her eyes on their enemy, her lips hidden in Ken’s fur.
Her mate’s fur almost erupted from shock. How was that possible? They hadn’t kept their guard down but were actually unable to detect any enemies!!
The whole hill is surrounded." She said in passing, just so they know.
Ray couldn’t help his lips from twitching.
There was only one explanation as to why her mates were unable to detect the enemy. The enemy was after all a spirit beast!
They had scoured the whole area but they didn’t manage to detect any threat and hence settled here but unfortunately, the enemy wasn’t one that hang out during the day, their territory was also below and we’ll concealed with the help of the flora.
Sydney could no longer stay calm as she felt a very strong sense of fear, she had no idea why but her instincts told her to flee! And this was already the fifth time.
Luckily, all of them were on their beast forms.
The red eyed beasts begun to move and Sydney spoke. "They are coming!!" She could no longer keep her cool! Those red eyes were no longer innocent! They were filled with killing intent! Her about was all that was needed and all of them jumped up, Sydney didn’t even have time to run to Caden to take him away to safety.
The other group charged forward viciously.
The duty of Sydney’s safety fell on Ken who was closest to her. She clasped her fingers into Ken’s deep fur as he broke off into a sprint.
Being besieged from all directions, their numbers were also a hundred times more than Sydney and her group but what could they do!?
Caden let out a battle screech and shot up into the sky.
Clear the path up north!!!" Ash shouted and Caden shot back down from the sky screeching so loud that one would loose their hearing if attacked by the force of the cry.
However, their opponent was not any weaker! Despite the ear shattering cry, they still charged forward.
Caden flew ahead and swept a good number of those red eyed beasts that they could now see. With a sweep of his majestic claws, ten over of those beasts were swept away. He didn’t fly far and returned with a doubled energy.
Ray and Shawn had also caught up to the front biting at the red eyed beasts.
The strong stench of blood wafted along with the night breeze. This was not good!
Ray kept the back vanguard and though he was restrained, he wasn’t at a disadvantage by much!
The group had managed to increase their battle prowess over their time having left the considered safe zone...but that wasn’t the only technique they had learnt!
They were masters at fleeing at the moment and quick, they broke through the encirclement and this have Ken to run like his tail was on fire. Like he said before, he really hated the feeling of being hunted and it pissed him off alot...but against numbers that would go beyond hundred, what other choice was there for them!?
As Ken fled, Sydney took this chance to look at the red eyed beasts and her eyes almost rolled out of her sockets!
Hound Rabbits!!!! The words automatically rolled in her mind and she couldn’t help yelling that out.
Like the word, Hound Rabbits were spirit beasts, a much stronger breed of the rabbit/ hare race. Ten times stronger than the attack battle of a normal wild rabbit and faster too. One could be able to tell at a glance that it wasn’t a normal rabbit as these hound Rabbits had sharp canines and notbrje two front cute rabbit teeth. Also, hound rabbits fed on flesh and blood of other beasts.
Encountering one was not something to fret about but how was that possible!? They traveled in large numbers, like the one chasing after them at the moment.
Wild cats were natural masters of speed but Hound rabbits didn’t fall behind at all.
While Caden, Ash and Shawn remained behind to make cover, Ray caught up to Ken to offer additional battle support incase.
Ray’s body was riddled with bite marks that were bleeding badly.
When Ken heard her shout of Hound Rabbits, he felt so insulted, he hadn’t gotten a better chance to look at the enemy and was solely focused on running away with Sydney but upon her words, he couldn’t help the temptation and shot a glance casually and he almost tumbled over throwing Sydney off his back.
What were those things???" He yelled. He had seen rabbit and hare beastmen before and also messed around with them a few times. But these were different! Completely different!!!
