Beauty's Beasts -
Chapter 138: Her tomb
Chapter 138: Her tomb
Deep in the dense forest, a few animals were grazing peacefully, the place filled with tranquility. The undisturbed nature really brought life back to one’s soul.
The animals that were grazing peacefully suddenly halted their actions in unison and looked up warily. They had been living here for so long and for many generations but there had been no such thing that could cause them to feel fear.
Fear ....this foreign feeling was very unsettling!
Slowly, the older beasts begun to round up the little ones in protective sheilds without the slightest regard to race. This was the unity they had caltivated for hundreds of thousands of years.
However, their fears were not without question. The once peaceful forest turned eriee and very quiet that even breathing seemed forbidden. A chilly breeze blew by making them feel like they had been plunged deep into the icest mountains.
The animals this time round didn’t only feel wary, they were on high alert and begun to make small movements in an attempt to flee.
The younger beasts were already trembling and their teeth chattering in fear unable to hold themselves together. The older beasts were no different from the younger ones but they still hoped to stand as a shred of hope for the little ones.
Father...I’m scared..." A little fawn couldn’t stand the pressure and squeezed out his baby voice despite the fear it felt. He looked at his friends and they were no different from him, some even had started to cry but their sobs were muffled.
He was truly brave!
It’s okay to be scared. But you don’t have to let fear dominate you...no matter what!" The elder deer looked at his son as if he knew what was coming upon them.
His voice which was not high was audible enough for everyone to hear. The group of little ones though didn’t really understand knew it was okay to be scared. But what was most important was to avoid drowning in fear.
Maybe no, they wouldn’t understand it but in the future, they’d learn why such an important lesson had been imparted into their minds. Unfortunately, it was at a time where it was too late to turn back.
Do you sense it?!" A male zebra asked his eyes trained on the deepest part of the forest. It was the origin of the chill that that had never felt in their lives.
Mm.... I fear things are not optimistic on our side." An elephant spoke his eyes cold and he hid away what he felt on the inside. He looked at a distance where his clan’s men were also in fear then to the little ones, the ones that were in charges of continuing their bloodline. He felt that no matter what happened today, they should at least he able to save the little ones and help them keep their lives because no matter what, what was lurking in the woods was only here for their lives!
Gather the little ones and send them to the other side of the ridge. We don’t have long before whatever is out there comes after us!" The elephant spoke and the others agreed.
Those that surrounded the little ones begun to direct them to move. The little ones were already very reluctant to be away from their parents but they dared not let out a single sound. Only their desperate pleas in their eyes could be seen and felt but what could be done was not something they could fanthom.
The elder beasts were also very unwilling to part with their little ones at a time like this but unity is what they needed to ensure that atleast they could get a chance to grow....even if they weren’t with them.
Because everyone understood the situation, the little ones were moved away from the periphery of the forest and further off.
Whatever was in the forest seemed to also sense what they were doing and begun to move.
Those with keener sights could catch on the changes happening. What was initially a vibrant green that represented life seemed to be eaten away by a sudden black fog and where it went past, all that was left was the putrid scent of death!
The movement of the fog was steady but ruthless, chills rose in their hearts and the first in their bodies stood involuntarily.
Not many would stand bravely in the face of death and those that were ready to charge in and beat up the enemy started to withdraw with unsteady and shaky steps!
Lucky for them, the little ones had been taken further away or the embarrassment they’d face would run in their legacies to come!
The fog further sensed the state of the beasts outside the forest and it charged forward wantonly.
Scared prey was the best prey!
Some of the weaker beasts couldn’t stand the pressure and fainted unceremoniously.
A rhino who was at the forefront of the battle field had his horn slightly stuck forward into the forest borderline and with his eyes wide as the enemy charged to him, he could clearly see death but was unable to move. He closed his eyes in defeat.
It was always the leaders that suffered the most! But with the trust and hope that had been entrusted to him, he had dared not run and face this matter bravely. If he were to dieat this point in time, he hoped that his clan would learn of his heroic deed! His thoughts wandered as the idea of death slowly begun to integrate into his mind but even after waiting for a few more minutes, the feeling didn’t come but there was pain!
He opened his eyes and what he saw before him didn’t permit him to keep his stance. His legs gave away and his huge rhino body clashed to the ground.
Thud!
His eyes looked forward to his horn only to find that half of it was gone. He didn’t stand on ceremony and fainted right away!
As they had chosen to stand on guard and buy their little ones time to escape, the forest boundary was lined with beasts that fed from the nearest areas to the forest. The side at which they stood was a vast grassland with flowing rivers and abundant greenery.
Normally, those from the carnivorous family were ones that hunted from the forest but it was a lucky fit for them since this phenomena happened before their hunting hours.
The dark black fog continued to rage forward but it seemed like it couldn’t cross the forest borderline!
All its efforts to break free after years upon years seemed to come to an end! But how could it be?! She was here! It had to go to her!!!
It can’t cross!!!" A sudden exclaim brought all the beasts back to the present and indeed. What was initially a flourishing forest was now a huge dense of fog that not even a tree trunk or leaf could be seen.
The realisation brought relief to many estranged hearts as some female beasts that had chosen to stay couldn’t help breaking down in tears of relief. Their companions comforted them bravely but only they knew how much fear had been budding in their hearts!

Somewhere in a small forest hill.
A silhouette looked up to the skies and sighed. "You’ve returned!" The voice carried pain and worry.
If it was anything, it was better that she didn’t come back to this place. This world....it was her tomb!

Sydney had finished with her business and was all better now for travel. She was no longer strained with her mates and was currently riding ontop of Ken whose about was almost touching the sky in pride!
Everyone synchronised in harmony as they had idle chat about mundane things.
Hahaha..." She couldn’t help laughing at Ray’s silly joke.
Since traveling in silence had been really boring to do, Ray had come up with a silly truth dare game to play. When she was curious how he knew of such a thing, Scott became the Scapegoat and Ash and Shawn could only roll their eyes inwardly.
It was a lie! A Blatant Lie! Okay!!!
We have been walking for a few days now. But have any of you noticed that there’s hardly any snake or snake beast!" Caden was observant and since he and the snakes weren’t really on close terms, he was more sensitive to them. They had been in the forest for a number of days now and surely to note. There were no snakes in the vicinity, not even a single hiss tease from them!
That was abnormal!
Ray who was coming up with another silly joke halted and stretched his senses as far as he could. Although he wasn’t as good as in the times he had his beast, it was not impossible for him to cover a rang of around two kilometres in radius.
Ken also halted and tired his heart best to sense and it seemed true.
They had almost ignored this fact.
Sydney also looked around and realised this. Before when she was thrown out of the city of beasts on different occasions, she noticed that within every hour, it was hard not to come upon a snake and she had been in great fear at that time since she lacked an antidote against poisons. Her only chance was the beast replleing herbs that she had of course experimented on the two lion brothers.
But ever since she mated with Titan, her affinity with the snake clan had been much more stronger but ever since the happenings with Titan, that form of bond seemed to fade to the point that she couldn’t associate snakes to finding him!
I’ll go up and try having a clear view on the matter. Keep moving..I’ll catch up." Caden didn’t waste time and shot up for the skies in his beast form. He let out a screech and circled around their area for a while before proceeding to broaden his scope of search.
Sydney looked up at where Caden had disappeared and couldn’t help but sigh. Let’s rest for a while." She said and her mates naturally had no objections.
I’ll go hunt." Ash said his piece and shifted before entering into the deeper forest.
Sydney’s hand touched her neck and a frown settled on her face. She turned and looked back at the direction they had just come from which was the beast city. She had a feeling it’s take a while for her to go back there...much less return!
The feeling was hair raising but she didn’t utter a word about it. She mounted off Ken and went to do something. She picked afre twigs here and there, collected a few interesting berries, mushrooms and what not completely ignoring Ray who was walking behind him.
