Chapter 139: Barbecued snakes
In the mountains.
The group of five crossed the rocky path carefully.
Ummmm..." The old man cleared his throat to drew the other party’s attention.
They all halted and turned to look at him making him grin.
You must be hungry. How about we stop and camp for a while!?" He asked suggestively. He as a person was not hungry but his mate surely was. Her stomach had been growling for long but those men behaved like they didn’t hear him at all!
Too bad he even couldn’t get angry! If only he was with his son, these three would be beaten hmph!!
Let’s rest." The one with the hoarse voice spoke and the others had no objections.
Enzo... which direction are we going to take!?" Greg asked as he sat on a rock.
I have no idea too. We shall just follow them till we’ve crossed the mountains. I heard there’s a city at the other end of the mountain. We will go there and see if we can find any clues." Enzo spoke and threw the cloak off his face revealing his sharp and masculine features. His deep eyes were dull but his complexion was fine, at the least, he had hope.
He is a panther. Do you think he might know about Ash? How about we ask?" Kev asked anxiously.
He is right. The panther population isn’t big, much more the black panthers. May be he knows something." Greg nodded vigorously. Now that he was with those he was familiar with, he couldn’t hide his childlike countance. He was the type of flower boy, pretty and delicate!
Enzo looked back at the man they were escorting and he was busy fawning his wife. She also smiled and seemed to treat him pretty well which reminded him of his beloved.
We will ask." Enzo looked away from them and leaned against the cave wall in deep thought. Did it really work?! She was already dead when they managed to find a method to bring her back. Was Lilly really able to bring her back!? Hahaha...stupid! He cursed at himself for placing so much hope on a small child! He shut his eyes to hold back the tears.
"Would you like some meat?" The old man walked over and presented the three men some food. It had been days and he hadn’t seen them eat a single thing, not even during a drop of water. "It’s not that much but you won’t he able to persevere on empty stomachs. My mate said you remind him alot of our son and she wanted you to eat. Please accept her kind intentions." He said as he placed the hot chunks of meat before the group.
Enzo opened his eyes and looked at the old man then back to the female. She nodded at him and he bowed slightly to show his appreciation. "Thank you." He said to the old man which made him gwaff with laughter.
"You are more behaved than my son! That boy is a big block of ice. When I left back then, I thought he was being shy when he refused all the females. I hope by the time I go back I’ll find some cubs to play with!" He begun to chatter away making his female frown.
"Get back here! Don’t disturb them while they eat!" She reprimanded and he ran over with a silly smile apologising and fawning over her.
Enzo and Kevin shook their heads helplessly. Somehow the sight of the other two bantering somehow overlapped with a memory in their minds. They wondered where that guy was off to!
"Do you come from a small clan?!" Greg couldn’t help asking. He felt that question was silly but he still asked anyway.
The couple looked over to them. "No. We come from the city of beasts." The female answered patiently.
"City of beasts. Are there many those from your clan!?" Greg asked hopefully. If there’s a panther population on that side, then maybe Ash would too.
"No. The female shook her head sadly. In the city, there’s only five from the panther clan. Three of which are female, me inclusive then there’s our son and my husband." She said and saw the hope die in their eyes. "Are you looking for a panther beastman? Is he your friend?" She asked.
Greg didn’t say anymore and even felt the meat was too hard to swallow.
"He is our family. Something happened and we have been looking for him for a while but we haven’t been lucky." Enzo replied and went back to eating his food with a tight heart.
The female looked at her mate and felt bad for them. "Don’t lose hope yet! The world is big and you might have missed him at some point." She tried to coax them. " How about this, you come with us to the city of beasts. Our son has a high profile, when we get there, we will ask him to help you guys look for your family. Besides, alot of clans have been migrating over to that side, maybe he’ll be among them...how about it?" She asked carefully.
"Thank you so much." Enzo was glad for any help that was to be offered to them. Ray, Shawn, Ash, Ford and Kale were still missing.
They ate with much calmer hearts and rested for the night.

Sydney mounted Ken once again after getting a signal from Caden about something upfront of them. The group dashed there at the fastest speed that they could and not long, they came to a stream.
The sight of the place almost made Sydney fall off Ken in terror.
Thousands of snakes had been burnt and the stench of their bodies was overwhelming that it made one’s stomach churn.
Vultures were surrounding the place and other animals.
Ken and the others were shocked at the sight of the place. The snake bodies mounted up to a small hill! It was a gruesome sight.
What happened here?" Ray asked but no one could give account as they were as puzzled as him.
Ash shifted from his beast form and went to check the bodies out but all he got was the rotting stench. He withdrew with a scrunched face. "Titan’s scent isn’t here." He affirmed.
Sydney partially calmed down knowing Titan wasn’t here but also this massacre made her felt the pinch in her heart.
What could possibly be able to gather all type of snakes and then set them on fire!?" Shawn asked with concern. Fire and snakes were enemies, or to say, snakes never messed around with fire. But....this...there wasn’t even any sign of struggle.
Have you found anything?!" Ash asked Caden who was able to find this place earlier.
Not much. This place generally isn’t habitated and animals only come over to drink some water before they proceed with their journeys. An eagle that resides nearby told me that a few days back, all snakes in the area came rushing over to this place urgently. It was the snake business so he didn’t come to scout the place. But according to those that saw, they said all those snakes came here and seemed to be on guard over something. They thought this phenomena would go by after a few days but that didn’t happen. Next, a hisses ce from this place and the small animals all ran away from here. When they returned, all those snakes were burned and it seems that none of them even thought of escaping. They all died like that." He explained.
Everyone looked back at Sydney. Could it be related? They wanted to ask but dared not.
Sydney’s neck also seemed to be burned the past days, it was worse when they got into the forest at that time.
I don’t think Titan could kill his own clansmen!" Sydney said with determination. She had also thought of a possible link between the two but Titan was a cold blooded beastmen, how could he produce fire that can burn all these snakes.
But he is the only one who could gather all these snakes." Caden pointed out and Sydney didn’t know what more to say.
It was true, Titan had that ability. When she had just come to the beast world, at Titan’s arrival, he was praised from high and low, all snakes answered his call and his appearance created a ruckus in the snake clan.
Does that mean something happened to him?" Sydney asked worriedly.
Not necessarily. It seems we still need to keep moving." Caden frowned as he looked around. Their main task was to come and look for Titan and then return home. But at this rate, they were likely to stray further and further away from the city of Beasts.
They might even run into a group of migrating beast clans, much less strays.
Let’s consider this a tour." Ash spoke and everyone looked at him with incredulous gazes. Seriously!?
It’s not like the city can’t function without us. Brother in law is capable. The other different clan kings are also capable and the plans have already been established. Nothing will go wrong." He shrugged.
Ken rolled his eyes. How could they forget that Ash normally went missing for many months before he made an appearance in the city. Sydney’s arrival almost made them forget this fact.
If you say so. I’ve been cooped up in the city anyway. Let’s not go back now and tour around as we search for Titan too." Ken agreed and walked over to the corpses. "Tsk..tsk..tsk, they were badly barbecued!" He sighed and continued to walk around.
Since we all have no objections, let’s burry these bodies and continue forward." Ash spoke and went to the side to begin digging.
