Beauty's Beasts
Chapter 136: who are you

Chapter 136: who are you

Sydney sat in the small camp that had been established for the night. The sound of crackling fire filled the night along with the cries from the night beasts.

She had changed out of her upneck shirt and now, everyone could see that sate of her neck, besides, it was too hot that she was forced to give herself a breather now that it was night.

Here. The food is ready." Shawn said passing her a small bowl of rice, cabbage and meat.

Thanks." Sydney took it and begun to munch on the food in thought. They had followed the trail and she believed Titan would be found in a short while but that hadn’t been the case.

Shawn left and soon returned with a soaked piece of fur then used it to wipe at her neck. He didn’t say much knowing she was still angry with them even after a number of days had gone by.

You have to rest early so we can leave on time tomorrow." Ken spoke from the side. The words he could exchange with her had lessened and no matter how he tried to provoke her, she’d just completely ignore him. It was different and difficult to bare!

Ray returned from the patrol with more firewood and added a few pieces into the fire making it light up more. This would naturally attract the attention of other beasts but they were no worried at all!

After her meal, Sydney walked into her small tent and went to sleep not even saying a goodnight to them.

Their moods were extremely bitter.

Late into the night, Sydney groaned and turned in her sleep distressed, the mark once again begun to burn and it was painfully hot, unfortunately, she couldn’t wake up and kept twisting and turning.

At the first sound of her distressed cry, Caden and the others had run into the small tent making it stuffy.

They could see that the mark on Sydney’s neck was moving chaotically!

This was the first time they saw something like this.

Females had mate markings but never would those marks make any movement, they were perturbed on how to deal with this.

What’s going on?" Ken asked in fear. The whole of her neck seemed like it was on fire as it turned red to a scary degree. Even the heat that her body was emitting was like she was dipped into a furnace!

Shawn rushed out and came back with a small pail of water to help her cool down. What the heck are you doing?!" Ray reprimanded as he slapped away the basin that it tumbled spilling all its contents. "You can’t use water to cool down such a fire! She’d get more sick!"

I didn’t know that! How are we going to help her?" He asked worry etched in his dual coloured eyes.

We can only wait." He said and all hearts sunk. Sydney twisted and turned through our the whole night and by the time morning came, she had calmed down but was badly exhausted that she didn’t wake up. It was like it was only at that time that she got to rest.

Her mates’had dark under eyes from worry. They now knew how if felt like to be helpless!

She’s seems a whole lot better now!" Caden who was the closest pointed out and the others were also happy to see that it was the case.

I’ll go and hunt something. She should he hungry after going through this night." Ken said and ran off to find fine prey.

*

Ray who couldn’t stand watching during the night had gone out to inspect the area and pick fights to cool himself down. He lay on the ground after battling a group of wild wolves who scurried off upon realising that they couldn’t beat him even when he was in his own.

Despite being wounded, he could still make out someone approaching him. He didn’t have the energy to be vigilant since that other party didn’t seem to have any I’ll intent towards him.

That was some pent up energy." Lilly spoke gently as she looked down at Ray with a brooding look.

Haha...it’s you. Did you enjoy the show?" He asked helplessly. He was too focused on beating someone up that he completely ignored the possibility of this girl’s presence.

He scanned around the area but there was no sign of the triplets. He huffed but was too lazy to question her.

I did. Too bad you weren’t beaten to my satisfaction." She said heartlessly and Ray almost spat out a mouthful of blood.

Lilly folded her hands over her chest and continued to observe his facial expressions.

This girl! Seriously! If she wasn’t his mate’s child, he’d spank her till she called him father!

What are you here for?" He asked ignoring her remarks.

I’m here to see mother." Her reply was on point. It was only for her mother that these people got to look at her. She hoped that soon, she’d be strong enough to take her mother away from this place and from them!

"How did you know she had left the city?" He asked trying to get himself to sit up but it was useless as it seemed like he had a few dislocated bones and all that stuff. He gave up and lay there.

"With such unreliable men, of course I’m bound to come and ensure constant check ins on mother." She didn’t give a damn about their egos and jabbed at them.

"Do you know that we are your elders! How can you speak to me like that!? If your father knew you had grown up like this, how bad would his heart hurt?! Hmm?" Ray felt bitter.

Lilly was silent for a while before she stood up and looked down at him. "A few friends of mine should come and pay you a visit. The time without us has made you grow gutsy!" Her tone was cold and her eyes held no trace of deear for this guy.

Ray rolled his eyes but knew he did not have much time to waste here. He needed to move before he was turned into meat paste. "Why are you so ruthless to me!? He cried out pushing himself up ignoring the burning pain in his body. What was he to do when he felt his mates’ link to him break at that time! It was natural that he’d loose himself! But he had done his best, hadn’t he!?

I’m not ruthless. I just don’t really like you " Lilly said and walked to the side to calmly watch the impending show.

Ray looked at the pair of innocent but heartless eyes looking back at him. He really never understood where her anger rooted from. They had already done their best to see that alot could change, they had given up their own beasts to tamper with time and it had been successful but that also didn’t seem to calm her mind at all. She felt that were undeserving of her mother! He sighed.

But not long, the sound of animals charging his way reached his ears and he wasn’t so lucky. He tried to move but because he lacked his beast, his healing abilities had dwindled by alot! He hadn’t fully recovered!

A wolf that was hiding in the bushes sat calmly but the sudden charging herd startled his target scaring it off. He was so angry that he jumped out to give chase anyway only to find himself being dragged into trouble.

The herd of wilder beasts charged at him and his prey. Seriously! Ken sneered and ran off at a leisurely pace. He didn’t really take them seriously but some one had to compensate for startling his hunt.

However as he ran forward, he caught on a familiar scent mixed with blood and increased his pace to go and check out what was going on.

Huh!" He skidded to a halt tumbling and tripping over a stone before he crashed rolling into the ground before stopping just besides Ray.

The whole thing happened animatedly that Lilly who was on the side did not know how to feel. What was with her mother finding unreliable men! It was truly embarrassing. She looked away but her eyes were filled with laughter. Silly!

Ken on the other hand was a completely different case! Why was there a small Sydney here!?

His legs were pointing into the sky as he hadn’t recovered from his earlier shock! He blinked once, twice, thrice but the small figure was still there which affirmed that he wasn’t hallucinating at all! It was real!!

However, the impending herd didn’t stop it’s attack just because he fell down!

Lilly wanted the herd to stamp them to death! So embarrassing!

But Ken wasn’t one to die so easily. He saw Ray’s state and dug his teeth into his arm before dragging him to the side evading the herd by a mere breathe.

However, Ken still had eyes on Lilly who was looking at him coldly.

Except for the eyes which were a pitch black, she was the exact copy of Sydney! Who are you!? He wanted to ask but bit back his words. He felt this small figure was way too cold for him to dare her.

I’ll come back another time." She opened her close fist and threw a blue herb to Ray. "Give that to mother. She’ll be better after she eats it." She said and turned to leave since her work here was done.

Ray looked at the blue herb and sighed. He had spent that whole night looking for it but since it was rare, he knew finding it wouldn’t have been an easy fit which made him extremely frustrated ending up in him fighting a pack of wolves.

Thank you Lilly." Ray murmured seeing her departing figure. Even though she was cruel to him and the others, at least she treated their mate quite nicely. These superficial wounds were nothing to him in comparison to Sydney’s well being.

After leaving their sight, Lilly walked over and the herd which seemed crazed earlier on stood waiting for her with clear eyes and anticipation. "Let’s go." She said and got onto the king of the herd before they went off running at a steady speed.
