Chapter 113: In heat again!

A few days, Ray shamelessly made himself part of the family under the strict amd watchful eyes of the males at home. He didn’t really live in the house but all meals were brought in by him. He even went to the herbivore tribes to collect other grain foods and ground foods.

He returned only to run into Sydney and her friends seated under a tree shade in the city centre. He wanted to go over and greet her but he had alot of things he was holding.

Sia arched her brow seeing Ray look at Sydney then at the things he was carrying. "Is that another of your mates? Is he courting you?" she asked with great interest.

Sydney looked at Ray and didn’t know what to say. It was because of her that he entered the city of beasts and he had also killed for her. He wasn’t particularly actively courting her but with how he was all over her house like he owned it, she fell in a loss.

"If you don’t want him then can I take him?". she said expectantly. "Not only is he handsome but also a ninth rank beastman!" Sia complimented.

Ray on the other hand wasn’t in a hurry, firstly, he was already her mate. He had peeped at her to see if ther was any sign of his mate mark but there wasn’t. Only he knew how bad it hurt! But so what? He had children with her, none of her current mates had. He could use this to console himself and not act irrationally. Seeing that Sydney wasn’t going to say anything, he defeatedly went home to deliver the supplies.

Shawn was in the kitchen handling lunch and he was apparently the only one at home. Ray walked in with the foods and went to kitchen.

You are back?" Shawn welcomed him but kept stirring the sauce in the pot.

Mm...but there wasn’t much food. This was their last batch from this season’s stock. Since the dry season is underway, they also have to keep the rest for their own." Ray said as she organised the foods in the food storage.

Shawn frowned a little and looked at Ray. "Is the drought from before likely to hit again?" He asked.

Ray rolled his eyes at Shawn. I’m glad you still remember!" he huffed and busied himself. Join me to continue making stone buckets. If you can also invite her other mates to join, then that’s good too. We need to stock enough water! The drought that time left the whole city embedded with cracks. I don’t want us to have to move again!" he frowned.

Shawn understood that. That year had indeed been harsh! Now every dry season was a nightmare for them. They’d rather be safe than sorry!

"Before the mating season ends, we also have to store enough food for Sydney. Last time, she fell sick from eating meat. We can’t let that happen again!" Ray sternly warned.

Not long after their talks, Sydney’s happy voice could be heard from the door way. Ray didn’t linger around much and went through the back door and left the house. Of Ash and the others caught on his scent but didn’t point it out.

Lunch was served and everyone silently had their meal.

After dinner, Shawn cleared his throat and got all the others attention. I’m going to need help with a few preparations." He said and everyone waited for what this was all about.

He explained about the possibility of a very long drought and the requirement to store enough water, there was also the concern of food that Sydney liked to eat. Those from the herbivore clans were no longer willing to give their food anymore.

"Who told you this?" Titan asked.

"It has to be that guy! He always buzzing around our house. I don’t like it!" Ken gritted his teeth.

"It was Ray. He told me and we have every reason to trust his words. Even if it’s not for him, it isn’t wrong for us to prepare in advance." He pointed out and Caden nodded.

Sydney who had been silent all this while looked at Shawn. She was wondering why he was so trustful of Ray. He was going to ask him about it later.

Ray had stayed with them but he still remained a mystery. The fact that he knew Sydney before them also left Titan with a buzzing mind. I’ll work with Ray to handle this matter. The rest of you needn’t waste time on this matter." He said and this topic was concluded.

Sydney who planned to go back and meet with Sia felt her stomach ache all of a sudden. She groaned at the sharp pain that shot her lower abdomen. Her eyes fluttered when she learnt why. Her period was here! Shit!

Just like her, all her mates looked at her stupified. Why was Sydney in heat again!

The strong scent of her heat drowned all the other scents in the house.

"You are in heat?" Ken asked dumbfounded.

Sydney glared at him. Yes she was but the pain was a little uncomfortable. She bit her inner cheek and clamped her feet to together.

Shawn was most familiar with this and hurried towards Sydney. Come, I’ll take you back to the room." He said and lifted her from the seat. A little blood stain was left behind

Females go in heat once a year but Sydney going into heat again in less than half a year...how couldn’t they be dazed. Wasn’t this miracle?!

Is it because she isn’t from around here?" Caden murmured and all of them relatively nodded their heads. It indeed made sense that way. It sometimes escaped their minds that Sydney was from another place.

After not seeing her stomach grow any bigger after their relentless efforts on the night they mated and Sydney’s sudden disinterest in intimacy, they had resigned to their fate to wait till next year. Who knew they didn’t have to wait for so long!

Caden ran to kitchen to prepare warm water.

Ash cleared the table and washed the dishes while Ken and Titan rushed up to the main room.

Sydney was curled up in bed. The first days were always the worst!

Seeing her bare the pain, Shawn looked impatiently at the door waiting for Caden to come up with warm water. Nothing more they could do!

Caden soon rushed into the room with a big stone basin. Shawn left the bed and dipped a skin cloth till it was warm enough. Help me lay her on her back " He instructed and Ash who was also around was fast with hands. He helped overturn Sydney making her groan. Her legs were covered in blood.

Shawn rushed over and lifted her top then placed the warm cloth on her. Don’t worry. You’ll be okay soon!" He assured her.

While this was supposed to be a joyous celebration, all the men in the room had solemn expressions as they watched how Shawn tended to Sydney attentively.

Unfortunately for Shawn, he too only knew about her having her heat every month but since he wasn’t so close to her in her previous life, he didn’t know how her top mates always handled this. His duty was the kitchen most of the time and the moments he spent with Sydney weren’t that many. He could actually count them on his two hands.

Ray waited outside the house for a while but he didn’t see Shawn come out. Lunch should be done by now!" He murmured to himself. He steeled his heart and went to door. Even without his beast, he could still smell the strong scent of heat! He paid no regard and went inside the house. The scent here in the house was stronger but where was everyone?!

He looked up to the second floor and laughed. He walked over. This was crossing boundaries but he knew exactly the situation those beasts in there were in. After all he had been there too!

Titan who was coaxing Sydney hissed when he sensed Ray right outside their bedroom door. The others also looked over.

Ken stood and went to do something about this Ray. He bolted the door open and glared at the blue eyed male outside who had a big smile on his face. "You need me." He said as a matter of fact.

"Not before I’ve not only crippled you but thrown you out as well!" Ken growled as he charged forward. This had definitely crossed the line!

"Ray...how did you usually do it?!" Shawn with a distressed face asked not minding that others were around. There were always times like these back in the days but as he was a mere three rank beastman, he couldn’t covet her and vie for her attention when she had nine and ten rank beasts attending to her. This was her second heat in their world but those who knew Sydney knew that her periods were extremely painful! The intervals and intensity at which they struck varied but when they did, it was that bad!

Ash and the others looked at Shawn like he has grown another head. Why did he ask Ray like something of the sort had happened before. It was now very confusing.

"Do you remember the herbs you used to prepare?" Ray asked as he stepped into the room. Ken didn’t even get a chance to throw a punch at him.

Shawn nodded. "Go gather all of them! As many as you can. Caden, please follow along and help Shawn and gather the herbs he’s going to point at." Ray instructed. "Ash, please help me clean Sydney up and also change the skin sheets. Titan, help me get the warmest skin clothes Sydney has around where as for you Ken, help me find cotton. The more the better. I hope the fire is still running in the kitchen."

Though not willing, each one of them found themselves going to do what was required of them.

Ash gathered the warmest furs and brought them before he ran down to check on the fire. Luckily, it was still running .He cooked another pot of water.

In the bedroom.

Ash finished to clean Sydney up and carried her out of the stone basin. Her body was a little fiery now. "Are more like you going to come?" Ash found himself asking out of the blue.

"I don’t know about them. But I’m sure, the longing that drove me to this city won’t be different from theirs. They surely will find their way to her." Ray was honest with Ash. After all, Ash was there before which wasn’t the case with Caden, Titan and Ken.

Ash nodded and went out of the room. Ray walked to the stone box and took out the remaining pieces of cotton. He skilfully wrapped them in one of her knickers and helped her put them on. He also helped dress her up and then wrapped her like a hotdog then waited for Shawn’s return.
