Chapter 226: Kalena’s past 2

"You cannot do this to me, my lord!" little Kalena jolted awoke from her sleep hearing her mother’s loud voice. She gingerly got down from her bed before walking towards her door. It took her a lot of effort to reach the door’s handle with her small size, but she didn’t give up. She couldn’t give up because she had to go and see her mother. She didn’t like leaving her mother all alone with her father when they fought.

And when she managed to unlock the door and reached the living room, the sight that greeted her was her mother kneeling on the ground as she cried, "How could you.....!" her mother’s heart-wrenching sobs broke Kalena’s heart, "Why my lord?" then she watched as her mother’s hatred filled eyes reached the other woman standing in the room, "You wench! How dare you! How dare you steal my husband...?"

Kalena didn’t understand all of her mother’s words but she could make out one thing. That strange woman was trying to take her father from them. This was the day she experienced what it means to really hate someone. The disappointment she had in her father was nothing compared to the hatred she was feeling for the woman. Red hair and blue eyes. The woman standing beside her father looked as beautiful as a fairy but she looked ugly to Kalena. The woman looked like a demoness trying to steal her father from their life. Her mother would not be able to take this! Her mother needed her father by her side or Kalena was afraid that she would lose her mother. She didn’t know how but her inner self said so. Only by keeping her father by her mother’s side would she be able to save her mother.

"You had a wife?" Kalena’s thoughts were interrupted when she heard the strange woman’s voice. The said woman looked at her father with stern eyes, "Xen.....you had a wife and a child?"

Kalena briefly felt the woman’s eyes land on her before she looked at her father, "Tell me Xenon! Is...what this woman saying true? Is she your wife!?"

"Rosalie....." Her father’s sad voice rang inside the house. Kalena had never heard her father sound so soft and affectionate ever in her life, "This.....I wanted to say this the first time I met you but...."

"But what!?" shouted the woman named Rosalie. She stepped toward her father and gripped his collar before yelling, "Tell me you, bastard!"

For the first time, Kalena saw tears in her father’s eyes as he struggled to talk, "Rose....please, believe me.....I never wanted to hide this from you but the situation..."

"Don’t tell me you have an excuse for having married?" Rosalie said cutting his words, "And for having a child?" then sardonic laughter filled the living room as the woman continued, "Thanks! Now I know where I stand in your life....thanks for letting me know"

Then the woman released her father’s collar and stepped back from him, "Xenon.....no Lord Xenon, the most important thing in a relationship is trust and you broke that not only with me....but to the woman you married and to your child" then she turned around and started to walk toward the exit. Before she could fully leave the mansion, the words left to her father were, "I hate you! I don’t wish to see you ever in my life" and the following words were seemingly for her mother, "I’m sorry, my lady"

With that, the woman completely left them or that was what she thought because right after that, she saw her father crumbling to the ground. He kept on shaking his head as though trying to deny reality, "Rose...I’m sorry, Rose please don’t leave me...Rose"

Kalena watched as her father kept on mumbling the woman’s name like a man that had lost his sanity. She then realized how the woman named Rosalie didn’t leave them. That woman was not staying anywhere else where they could chase her away from....no, that woman was in her father. She was securely staying in her father’s heart where her mother never stayed or would never stay.

"Lena....."Her thoughts broke when she heard a soft voice calling her. Her mother walked to her before she was picked up from the ground.

"Did I do well mother?" words left her mouth as usual, "I did as you said. I came right after I heard you and father fighting"

And that made her mother smile. The smile that she liked very much, "You did well Lena. It was because of you.....that wench left. I’m proud of you"

"I will kill you....!" the mother and daughter conversation came to halt when they heard a threatening voice. And when they turned around, they could see her father glaring at her mother with eyes filled with venom, "I will kill you, Sylvia"

"You can’t do that, my lord" replied her mother, "You know that"

Kalena saw her father clenching his fists as though trying to control his anger. He tightly closed his eyes before opening them and had an adamant gaze as he said, "Don’t touch, Rosalie"

"What can I possibly do to her, my Lord?" asked her mother in confusion.

"I will really kill you if you touch Rosalie" her father repeated before adding, "I-I promise that I will always stay here by your side, so don’t hurt her"

Kalena didn’t understand her father’s words. Her mother was the kindest woman she had ever seen and knew that she could never hurt anyone. But Kalena didn’t mind her mother hurting that strange woman. That woman tried to take her father from them after all.

"Make sure to keep that promise, my lord," her mother said before leaving that place while carrying Kalena in her arms.

Kalena turned around and saw her father slump on the ground. She had never seen her father so weak. Nevertheless, she felt that her father deserved this. He deserved to get hurt just like her mother did every time he shunned her.

"Lena" her mother called getting her attention, "Never give up anything that belongs to you to someone else. Always remember this"

"But what should I do if that thing indeed falls into others’ hands? What to do if I fail in guarding it?" Kalena asked curiously.

"Then you destroy it" her mother’s answer for clear and precise, "As that thing belongs to you.....you can do whatever you want with that"

"Isn’t that wrong, mother? What if it is not a thing but a person?"

"Doesn’t matter" said her mother with a smile, "It belongs to you either way. Be it a thing or a person. Understand?"

"Yes, mother"
