Chapter 227: Kalena’s past 3
A few days passed after that incident and soon those days turned into weeks and at last months. Kalena’s father remained cooped up in his room all day. Not even for dinner did he come out so the food was served inside his room. She noticed her mother’s mood dampen as time passed and could understand that it was due to her father’s absence.
It was as though they had lost her father to that strange fairy. Yes, Kalena got to know about her father’s other woman’s real identity when she heard it in passing while her mother was fighting with her father. That woman was apparently a water fairy and also a princess of their kind in the fae realm.
Kalena also heard about that woman getting married recently. And when her father learned about this, well how to put it.....he looked devastated and betrayed. However wasn’t he the one to betray her mother first? He was just reaping what he sowed. This was how Kalena felt about her father’s current situation. Whereas on the other side, her mother was ecstatic as soon as she heard that news and that feeling was mutual for Kalena. She too felt very happy. How could she not when that witch of a fairy finally left their lives?
But this happiness of hers didn’t last long because just a few months after that, Kalena’s mother got the news of that fairy’ husband dying. He was supposedly murdered while the fairy was giving birth to their child. And the one who killed that person was none other than her father.
The entire heavenly realm was thrown into chaos after that. The upper deities together with some archangels daily visited their house to capture her father in order to punish him for breaking the law. But the latter was never found in their home because he had fled somewhere and couldn’t be found. And the result of all of this fell on their family including herself and her mother. Her father and mother were stripped of their standing as archangels and instead became normal angels. Then as their daughter, she was punished to always remain an angel. There was no chance ever in her life for her to alleviate her position unless she marries an archangel. But that was unlikely because who would even want to marry her in the future knowing of their family’s past?
Everything looked bleak to her. Her mother’s condition deteriorated as days passed. Kalena saw her mother cry in despair one second to only laugh the next like a hysterical person.
"Mother?" ’thud’ Kalena recoiled in her place when a vase was directly thrown at her. She blankly looked at the broken shards as tears fell from her eyes. Had she not reacted faster, the porcelain vase would have hit her head.
"Get out of here!" then she heard her mother’s shrill scream breaking her thoughts. She had never before seen her mother like this.
"Mother please calm down" she tried to console her mother to only receive a harsh glare in return.
"How can I be calm!?" shouted her mother, "How can I when I lost everything!? My life is ruined... Everything is because of your father....that bastard ruined our life" then she tearfully looked at Kalena before adding, "My daughter will never be able to become an archangel.....how could he do this to my child? No! All of this happened because of that bitch! If only she had not entered our life then nothing like this would have ensued"
Kalena shuddered in her place hearing her mother’s next bone-chilling words, "I will kill her!" then she marched towards Kalena before lowering herself to the ground, "Don’t worry Lena, mother will make all of this right. I will not let this happen to you"
With those seemingly final words, Kalena’s mother stormed out of the room. She stood trying to process everything that she had heard but it was too late because her mother had already left their house before she could reach her.
Kalena stood all alone as silence surrounded her. There was no one beside her in their house. Her father had escaped the heavenly realm abandoning them and now, her mother left saying that she would make everything right.
Days passed like these and Kalena spent her days alone inside her room. Hunger gnawed her stomach but it was bearable probably due to her being an angel instead of a mortal. She couldn’t die just because of not eating. But her powers were another case. She felt weak and powerless.
’Chirp chirp’ her thoughts came to halt when she heard a soft sound beside her. She looked at the red-colored spirit bird and parted her lips, "Go away....why are you still here? Go and find your master instead of wasting your time with me" she knew that it would be soon. All the spirit birds like these would find their fated masters as soon as someone somewhere woke up their powers in whatever world they might be in.
"Go....leave, now," Kalena said and turned away. Then heard the bird fly away as though it had been waiting for this order and following that, tears fell from her eyes. For all these days, she had used her powers to bind the spirit bird to herself but it felt wrong now. The bird would die if it didn’t find its master and Kalena didn’t want that to happen. She at least wished for the bird be to happy rather like herself and that made her release her spell in turn freeing it. Then she closed her eyes and fell into a deep slumber.
’Crash!’ she jolted from her sleep hearing a loud commotion. She propped herself up and got down from her bed before walking out of her room.
An unfamiliar smell assaulted her nose as she slowly climbed doom the stairs. Her body shuddered due to fear of the unknown but the sight that caught her eyes in the living room alleviated her terror making her crumble to the ground.
"Mother!" a heart-wrenching scream left her mouth before she could think. Her mother’s bloodied corpse lay on the ground and when she glanced up, she saw her father’s calm face. He was looking at her mother with empty eyes as his hands were dyed red.
Everything after that happened in a flash as she blankly looked at her mother’s funeral followed by her father getting captured by the archangels. He was taken away to get punished.
Kalena didn’t know what to do anymore. For a second, she entertained the thought of ending her own life and resting for eternity. There was nothing left for her in her life anyway.
But that thought vanished as soon as she heard, "Lena...." a handkerchief was thrust in front of her as she heard, "Don’t cry, Lena. I will always be with you"
Those words of his were like a miracle that had occurred in her life, "Rian!" choked sobs left her lips as she felt him wiping her tears.
Then she felt herself getting embraced as he said, "Everything will be alright Lena, trust me"
And that was what she did. She trusted Adrian with everything she had got to only get betrayed in the end.
