Beauty in the beast world
Chapter 225: Kalena’s past 1

Chapter 225: Kalena’s past 1

(Black wolf tribe)

"I failed" a delicate voice of a female rang inside the room. One could easily detect anger and frustration hidden behind those simple words, "How could this happen....? I have never failed in anything until now.....not even once"

Kalena’s hands curled into fists as her nails dug into her palm and when she released them, traces of blood could be seen.

"Elena!" Heath frowned and hurried towards his mate. He took her hands into his before licking them in hopes of healing them. The very first sight he caught as he entered his mate’s room was Elena’s bloodied hands. His heart ached upon seeing the deep nail marks adorning his mate’s delicate hands, "What made you so angry? Huh? Tell me, Elle" he urged while gazing at her with tearful eyes. He wanted to know what was going on in her mind. What could have possibly happened for her to hurt herself like this?

But the reply he received for his heartfelt concern was his hands getting thrown aside. His mate forcefully shook off his hands that were holding hers as though she was disgusted to touch him. Heath blankly looked at his empty hands that were unlucky enough to get abandoned by his mate and heard her yell, "How many times have I told you to not touch me!?"

"But you are my mate" despairing words left his mouth before he could think. He raised his head and stared at her eyes before adding, "I’m touching my mate....what is wrong with that?"

Kalena smirked, "So you can touch me without my permission? Just because I’m your mate?" the only one she allowed to accompany her after occupying this body was this eagle beastman. And the reason for that was because he was strong, loyal to the body that she was inhabiting, and the less noisy one amongst all of Elena’s mates. She also had to make herself less suspicious to avoid getting caught by Elena’s family and tribe. And she did that by following Elena’s daily life or so she tried as much as she could. Heath was one of the girl’s mates and was the one that seemed less talkative. This much was enough for Kalena to keep him by her side. After all, she hated men who talked too much. They reminded her of Adrian.

This again! Kalena closed her eyes and frowned in displeasure and disappointment. The displeasure due to the man that plagued all of her thoughts, the same man that brought her happiness only to plunge her into sadness in the end, the man who promised he would always stay by her side but abandoned her for another woman. Then came the disappointment. She was disappointed in herself for even thinking about that traitor, liar, and most importantly a murderer. Yes, he was a murderer. The murderer who destroyed and killed her inner self that loved only him which in turn made her an empty shell of the woman that she was now in the present.

"Get out!" Kalena shouted with her eyes still closed and Heath’s face fell due to despair. He tried to talk but no words left his mouth, so all he could do was leave heeding her words. He hoped at least this would make his mate happy. If his presence brought so much distress to his beloved then he didn’t wish to stay there anymore.

Kalena opened her eyes as the sound of footsteps ceased. She stared at the open door for some time before turning away and walking towards the balcony of her room. A cold breeze hit her face that sent her hair disheveled. Just like how her life was. Disheveled and messed up. And this made her think about the past. The past that was responsible for her present pathetic life.

(Many years ago in the heavenly realm)

"Mother! Mother!" cried out little Kalena as she tried to chase after her mother with her small legs.

Hearing her voice, her mother, a beautiful lady with pure white hair and silver eyes turned around. A soft smile bloomed on the woman’s face as soon as she caught sight of her lovely daughter, "What is it, sweety?"

"Mother look!" said Kalena showing her palm, "I healed the birdie"

The woman’s eyes went wide hearing her daughter’s words. Sylvia lowered herself to the ground and stared at the chirping red little bird, "How?" the baby bird was something that she had found in the spirit realm. The poor thing was all alone on the ground injured. She tried to find its mother to no avail. At last, she had no choice and brought it to her house but was not able to heal it. It was not that she was not capable but rather it was her oath as an Archangel that stopped her from using her power on beings of another realm. It was restricted for angels like her to use powers on other beings be it for good or bad.

However, it was different for her little daughter. Kalena was yet to make an oath and could use her powers. But that was not what surprised her. What shocked her was her daughter’s capability that could heal a spirit bird at such a young age. Many of her daughter’s peers had still not learned to even manifest their powers. And this thought made Sylvia both proud and worried.

Proud because of her little Lena’s accomplishment and worried because if it used wrong, her daughter’s vast power could bring her trouble in the future. Not many upper entities like when an angel was deemed to be too powerful.

"Mother?" Sylvia’s thoughts came to halt when she heard Kalena. Suppressing the unease inside her heart, she reached her hand and caressed her daughter’s head, "You did well, Lena. Mother is proud of you"

"Really!?" asked Kalena in her babyish cheerful tone. Her round eyes twinkled with anticipation and Sylvia smiled seeing that before telling, "Kalena is the best child in the world. Mother loves you a lot"

"I love you too, mother!"

Sylvia spread her arms and beckoned, "Come here, let mother give you a hug"

"Yay!" and that was all it for Kalena to fall into her mother’s warm embrace. But that happy moment didn’t last long because both of them felt the presence of someone that they wished to not see right now.

Sylvia parted from her daughter before turning back. She was met with the sight of the man that she loved and hated at the same time.

"Lord Xenon?"

The said man didn’t even cast a glance at them and continued to walk past to only be stopped by Kalena.

"Father!" the man turned back with a frown on his face and Kalena continued, "I saved the birdie....."

"Did I ask?" that cold voice made her close her mouth. She lowered her head and her eyes brimmed with tears threatening to fall.

"You....." Sylvia looked up at him because that was what he called her. Not by her name....ever, "How many times do I have to tell you to keep that thing away from my presence?"

"She is your daughter, my lord," said Sylvia in a choked voice, "Why can’t you stop being so harsh? I will take everything you say but please...please don’t put our daughter through the same"

"You got a smart mouth, woman," said the man with a sneer, "But it will be smart if you shut that up instead of uttering nonsense in front of me unless you want to get killed"

"Kill me, my lord," Sylvia said while glaring at him, "If that is what takes you to love me and our child then kill me....I’m ready to die if that will make you hate me less"

Xenon smirked but there was anger and grief filled in it, "That will not happen. I don’t want you to die. No...I want you to live, you must live every day regretting what you did to me and my family. I want you to suffer here alone for all eternity. You will never receive my love...I will make sure of that" and with that, he strode out of that place.

"Mother?" Kalena looked at her mother’s crestfallen face. Her ever-strong mother looked weak all of a sudden. No, it was always like this, whenever her mother talked to and met her father, the former became weak and vulnerable. And this made her hate her father. She hated him for treating her kind mother like this. She wished for him to disappear but knew well that his disappearance would hurt her mother. Her mother was like that. She looked happy just by being near her father but that was until they both argued and fought.
