Xavier took a stealthy glance at his side before continuing to walk. It was becoming damn hard for him to keep his composure due to the presence beside him. Her feeble breathing, tripping steps, and loud heartbeats kept on distracting him. He wanted to scold her to walk properly, "Why are you walking like that!? Like a blind turtle?"

Lyra stopped in her steps when she heard a cold voice chastising her and turned to him before giving him a sheepish smile, "I’m sorry. I can’t see well in the dark"

Xavier felt like shit. He couldn’t help but scold himself inwardly. He should’ve known that females are different from males. The former didn’t have much night vision and hence avoided traveling in the dark. They didn’t feel safe enough to do so unless accompanied by their males. But what he didn’t know was Lyra was even worse compared to other females in the beast world.

Due to her mother being a human, the only vision that she could see in the night was pitch black, and nothing else. At least beast females had senses inherent by either of their parents and could make out their way into the dark up to a certain extent but not her. It was like she didn’t inherit anything from her father. And as her first mate was Blake, she only received his ability to swim and breathe underwater. Only later did she learn that the female can gain only her first mate’s ability. This was also why being one’s first mate was special for males.

"Here, Hold me" Lyra came out of her thoughts when a muscular arm was thrust in front of her.

"Hurry up!" she quickly held his harm hearing his loud voice. The fox king seemed like a hot head to Lyra. Well, it would be rather odd if he favored her. They were strangers to each other after all.

Xavier clenched his jaw as soon as her small hands encircled his arm. He felt her gently lean against him and gasped.

Lyra was alarmed hearing him gasp and turned toward him while inquiring, "Are you alright?"

Meanwhile, Xavier cursed himself for acting like a young laden. In his defense, this was indeed his first time having such close contact with a female. No.....the first time was when he hugged her back then in the rose castle. And as for the wretched female that had tried to assault him in the past, Xavier didn’t even let her touch him before he killed her using his powers. Now that he recalled, the very first time that he used his innate ice powers was on that female. To defend himself from her cruel clutches.

Even remembering that day still left him disgusted but now oddly, the soothing scent and warmth hugging him on his side at this moment brought him so much comfort and solace that it made him annoyed. He was annoyed at himself for getting swayed by this ambitious female that couldn’t even keep up with his steps.

"Walk faster!" he snarled taking out his anger and that made Lyra flinch.

"I’m sorry" She apologized feeling guilty. Lyra felt bad troubling the kind beastman that offered his help in taking her home. She tried her best to keep up with his steps but it was becoming harder and harder because he took giant steps with his long legs.

After walking for quite some time, Lyra felt him completely stop in his place. She hesitantly looked up at him, "What happened?"

"I can’t take this anymore!" Xavier bellowed startling her. Then he forcefully yanked his arm away from her grip before glaring at her.

His distinct colored eyes turned into slits making her frightened. She shakingly took a step back trying to put some distance between them. Her instinct screamed at her to run away but she was not sure about that working. How could she even outrun a beastman? But contrary to her worry, something very different happened that left her baffled.

She looked at Xavier as he suddenly shifted into beast form, a beautiful silver fox with red fur on the end of its tail. Even the darkness of the night was not able to obstruct her vision from seeing his majestic beast form. Then she gulped when the silver fox’s eyes fell on her. He walked toward her with steady steps before lowering himself to the ground.

Xavier raised his snout upwards and nudged her leg.

"What are you....?" Lyra stepped back flustered by his unusual behavior.

Whereas, Xavier felt like biting her. Having her lean against his arm just before felt like torture for him. His heart was still beating loudly even after he shifted into his beast form. He wanted to just get done with this as soon as possible. Hence he wanted her to get on him and even if not easier on his side, it would definitely be faster like this for them to reach the beast city.

But this dense female stood rooted to her spot instead of getting on his back. He once again softly snarled at her hoping she understands but she just got even more scared of him. He even sprawled himself on the ground to not appear aggressive.

Lyra looked at the unusual antics done by the fox king with complicated eyes. ’Is he trying to act cute?’ bizarre thoughts like these ran through her mind but she didn’t dare voice them out.

"What is it, your majesty?" by now, laughter threatened to come out of her mouth that she tried hard to suppress. He looked so cute and cuddly in her eyes as he struggled on the ground. Her hands involuntarily extended toward him.

Xavier snapped his head up when he felt her soft fingers on his between his fur. Before he could glare at her, he heard something that made him freeze, "Are you hurting somewhere?"

Lyra felt bad all of a sudden. Here he was struggling on the ground while she was thinking of laughing at him. What if he was hurt somewhere and was trying to ask for help? But he looked fine not long ago.

"You are fine right?" she repeated once again as she stared at his face with a worry-filled gaze. Her hands raked through his fur trying to find any possible injury.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Xavier was in a daze. He had a hard stopping his eyes from closing as her hand moved across his fur. It felt so good.....her hands on him so good that he felt like purring.
