Beauty in the beast world -
Chapter 176: Assumptions
Chapter 176: Assumptions
Xavier came out of the room he is residing. The first sight that caught his eye is the Auburn-eyed stranger feeding the pretty female.
His mood instantly plummeted with the sight but he didn’t know why it even bothered him. The stranger is her mate and Xavier didn’t have any right to feel like this. But it seemed that his heart had other thoughts.
Another thing that Xavier found hard to comprehend is the harmony in this family. All of her mates were formidable except that silver wolf and Lion. No, formidable is not the right word. Each one of them except those two is an immortal beastman.
Not everyone can cross that level. But seeing multiple of them in a single place felt bizarre. Staying in this place he learned a few things about their family. The current Eagle and vulture king that he didn’t yet meet are also immortal beastmen and they too were this pretty female’s mates.
Xavier could somewhat understand. The blue-eyed female is very beautiful and that might have pulled all of them to her.
’Cunning’
This is what Xavier thought about Lyra. As expected, she used her beauty to hog all of them. Every female is like this. They only care about themselves and boost their ego by having powerful males by their side.
Xavier felt entirely convinced by his thoughts. She is only pretty-faced and filled with nothing but arrogance.
His mind refused to believe otherwise. Xavier’s encounter with females taught him enough to come to this conclusion. Even he too sometimes felt drawn towards that pretty female. So this new opinion stopped him from moving any further.
Ridded by his burdening thoughts, Xavier walked toward them and said, "The cubs will not be able to hold my powers longer than this. They will die if left unattended"
Lyra’s eyes filled with tears as soon as those words left his mouth. She pushed Killian’s hands away and peered at Xavier, "What do you....?" The next words got swallowed in her throat due to sobbing.
Killian hugged her and glared at Xavier.
Xavier almost felt bad seeing her tear-filled eyes but he soon regained his composure and glared back at Killian. He only said the truth. Xavier didn’t know how speaking the truth is his fault.
"Lilly...." Blake called her. He didn’t know what else to say. There is no solution to this. Unless Victor returns or Demir succeeds in making an antidote, then there is no other option than staying helpless.
Killian continued to embrace her as she cried. Even her wails became feeble. He could see her trying to talk but she couldn’t. He felt afraid of her condition. Killian had a hard time seeing his mate so tired.
"Please calm down, treasure" his earnest plea fell deaf on her ears.
Lyra didn’t know how to explain the excruciating pain that she felt. She felt like something heavy is pressing on her heart. She felt choked up. Her breathing turned ragged and she felt immense fear. She knew this.....it happened only once in her life and it was on the day that she got kidnapped during her childhood.
’Panic attack’ that kidnapping left her traumatized and even after coming to a different world, she sometimes had nightmares regarding that incident. The dread that she felt that day suddenly came back to her.
The reason for it coming back now is completely different but Lyra swore that this fear of losing her babies felt even more painful and intense.
Those little legs of theirs ran all around the castle. Adorable baby growls and two pairs of twinkling eyes that held an entire galaxy inside them. Would she ever be able to forget all of that? Lyra didn’t think so.
Killian felt something odd and pulled away from her.
"What’s wrong, treasure....?" His voice shook as he looked at her pale face.
"Lilly?" Blake too noticed her struggling to breathe. He instinctively pushed Killian away and tried to reach Lyra.
Killian quickly steadied himself and charged at Blake, "You dare take her away from me!?"
His loud voice shook the entire castle. Rage filled Killian’s eyes. He was already losing himself when he saw his mate’s condition but Blake trying to take her from him amplified his outrage.
Blake likewise felt himself getting shaken up seeing his mate. And when someone tried to stop him from reaching her, he hit his limit and charged back at Killian.
Amidst this chaos, Xavier stood dumbfounded in his place. He wanted to stop their fight but he sensed something even more important than that.
He closed the distance between him and Lyra. First, he brought her away from those fighting beasts and hugged her.
"It’s alright, try taking a deep breath," he said whatever came to his mind. He was not the one to console someone but doing so felt right now.
She felt so soft and feeble in his arms that Xavier thought that he could crush her if he exerted any more strength in his hold. Her fragrance assaulted his nostrils and Xavier suddenly felt unsteady. Her fast-racing heart thumped against his chest and for a second, he felt his own heart skip a beat.
"They will be fine" he somehow managed to say those words making Lyra look up to him.
Her watery eyes lit up with hope hearing his words and Xavier felt himself getting lost in those gleaming eyes.
"I will save them" he caught himself saying those words and more, "So calm down"
Lyra’s breathing eased as minutes passed and in the end, her body couldn’t take any more stress. She felt herself succumbing to the darkness and Xavier caught her as she lost consciousness.
Meanwhile, Noah heard the commotion outside and rushed to take a look. He got confused seeing Blake and Killian exchanging fists. He thought about stopping them but soon dismissed it. Noah saw that the two were still mindful enough to not shift into their beast forms and left them alone.
His worry right now is his mate, so he started to look for her to only find her in prince Xavier’s arms. Noah noticed her closed eyes and rushed towards her.
He snatched his mate from Xavier and gazed at her, "Baby dove?"
Xavier looked at his empty arms with a blank gaze. His heart constricted painfully inside his chest and he didn’t know why. The warmth that he momentarily experienced felt too precious for him to lose. He failed to understand himself and his train of thought.
Wasn’t he the one who consoled her? But why did it feel like he was the one feeling comforted while holding her?
For a second he entertained the thought of him being bewitched. Yes, that felt reasonable. That pretty female must be trying to bewitch him into her trap.
Coming to terms with his own assumption, Xavier glared at her but his fierce gaze mellowed as soon as it fell on her lovely face. Damn it! He cursed himself. Is he also becoming mindless like those males of hers?
While he got lost in his thoughts, Noah glared at Killian and Blake, "Stop it snake! Killian you too!"
Blake came to his senses first when he heard Noah addressing him as a snake. Noah was always respectful and never called him like that. He looked at Killian’s fierce face and dodged him.
Killian’s fist hit the wall and he too regained his composure.
"Lilly..." Blake rushed towards his mate and took her from Noah.
"She must have fallen unconscious. Take her to the room"
He nodded at Noah’s words and started to walk up the stairs.
Killian too silently followed him and Noah returned to the cubs while Xavier stood alone.
