Beauty in the beast world -
Chapter 175: Home
Chapter 175: Home
(Vulture Cliff)
Victor stared at his tormentor with an empty gaze.
Now that he looked at his father, Victor felt nothing. His fleeting anger too passed and the only thing that remained is the objective of getting spirit wings out of this place.
"We meet again, Brat"
A familiar deep baritone voice spoke to him. The belittling tone never changed. To his father, Victor was and will always be just a speck of dust hindering his vision. In the past, this truth hurt him. But now? Not anymore.
Victor smirked and replied in a sickeningly sweet voice, "Did you miss me, father?" His eyes turned sharp as he added, "Because I very much did. After all, this brat was the one who dug out your heart while you withered to death"
And as expected, his father’s spirit face turned grim as soon as those words left his mouth.
"You!"
"Yes, it’s me," Victor said in a sing-song voice.
It seemed he reached his father’s last nerve because his next words came to halt when he was lashed by a heavy gust of wind.
Victor blocked the wind with his wings and soon shifted into his beast form. He wanted to play and annoy his father more but now is not the time. Returning to his ’Home’ is more important rather than looking at his bastard of a father’s face.
"I have already killed you..." Victor said while attacking his father, "So please die once more for me father"
’Slam’
’Slash’
The duel ensued and the entire cave shook with the power of two immortal beastmen.
"This crazy bastard!"
Victor heard his father cursing at him and chuckled, "Look who he is talking...The one who tormented innocent children and the one to plague all of my nightmares says that I’m crazy"
The rage that he contained for so long burst forth and Victor tore opened his father’s chest.
"Ahhh!" His father’s outcry filled the cave but Victor kept on digging his fist deeper. This is not the first time, in the past too Victor killed his father in the same way. By tearing his heart open and taking out the soul crystal. The one that he ’Gifted’ to his sweet girl.
She deserved it. If keeping her eternal meant for him to kill a bastard like his father then Victor could do it a thousand more times without batting his eyelids.
But contrary to the past, now he didn’t feel the existence of soul crystal. It was empty but Victor wanted to torment his father. The punishment that spirits receive is far more painful compared to the living body.
Soon the struggle came to end and his father’s spirit dissipated in the air leaving nothing but an empty cave in his vision.
Victor turned back and continued to venture further into the cave. The other king’s spirits in the enclosure just looked at him but didn’t dare to get closer to him. His father was an immortal beastman just like him and Victor guessed that he might have been the most powerful spirit residing here.
Seeing the end of him must have sacred the other spirits. They moved away from him in dread because the death of one’s spirit means that they are unqualified to experience a rebirth.
Victor smiled but it was sad. Maybe this is why he was brought here. To end everything that remained of his father.
After reaching a certain point, he saw something flickering amidst the enclosed rocks. He turned back to his beastman form and stepped towards it and stretched his hand.
The light dimmed as soon as his palm closed. Victor pulled his hand out and opened it.
A pair of little glass wings greeted him. A faint glow remained inside it and Victor turned back to his vulture form and exited the cave.
...
(Rose castle)
’Whimper’
Lyra once again jolted awoke at hearing the cubs’ suppressed wails.
She anxiously pressed her palm against their forehead. Tears made their way into her eyes noticing their temperature. There was no warmth due to ice magic and her heart ached seeing their condition.
"Baby dove..." Noah clenched his jaw seeing her burst into tears. He felt worried for his mate. His mother warned him about Lyra’s condition before she left.
The pregnancy and labor took a toll on her. That showed itself over the past weeks. Lucas was too worried about her decrease in appetite and informed him about it. When he talked about this to his mate, she said that she is alright.
Noah couldn’t ignore it. She took less care of herself and that made all of them worried. She spent the entire night beside the cubs and kept on crying whenever she looked at them.
He got up from the floor and walked towards her. Noah hugged her crying self, "Calm down baby dove. They will be alright"
"I.....I feel worthless" she said between her sobs, "As their mother, all I can do is wait for them to recover. I can’t do anything to relieve their pain"
She couldn’t even use her healing power to lessen their pain because Xavier warned that too much magic might worsen the condition.
He hugged her tighter and Lyra continued, "If only I was not their mother. If only had I not consumed that poison, my babies wouldn’t have gone through this"
"It is not your fault baby dove" Noah felt a heavy knot in his throat, "I have never seen a mother more affectionate than you in this beast world. Babies too love you and would never blame you for their situation"
Lyra continued to cry and Noah embraced her while saying soothing words. He didn’t know what more to do. He too felt like dying seeing his cubs suffering so much but all they could do now is wait.
Victor was out there to get Spirit wings. Noah didn’t know much about the spirit wings, so he made sure to prepare an alternative. All the witch masters and elders of the lion tribe were busy finding the antidote. Lucas took his tribesmen out of the city in search of anyone that could cure the cubs.
Meanwhile, Demir took it upon himself to formulate an antidote. Noah heard that Demir had not left his chambers for days working on it.
Kyrell left to find that merman and Noah wished nothing but Gregory’s death. He wanted Kyrell to tear that bastard apart as soon as he finds him. Noah was a cent percent sure that, the merman would never hand over the antidote. At least his death would do for now.
He took a deep breath trying to control his bubbling anger. All of them were affected by this incident. They are already on the verge of losing themselves. And for stopping that, Noah wanted to thank Blake. If not for Blake keeping all of them in check, then he didn’t know what would transpire.
Blake prepared food for their mate and his presence in itself eased Lyra’s grief which in turn soothed them. Their mate’s well-being equaled theirs. He too was busy taking care of the snake tribe but didn’t forget to check them from time to time. One time, Demir was losing himself due to self-blame and that made his poison haywire. But Blake came in time and helped Demir.
At last, it is Killian. Well, that guy never cared for others. His kindness is directed only to their mate and no one else. But Noah had to admit that Killian too was worried about the cubs. He used his healing powers to ease their pain before Prince Xavier arrived.
Prince Xavier and Killian’s power clashed, so he couldn’t continue using his powers.
In fact, Noah felt thankful for all of them. They were working hard to cure his cubs and that made him glad.
"Lilly, you should eat something" a familiar worried voice brought him out of his thoughts.
Blake stood near the door holding breakfast. He looked at Lyra with worry-filled eyes and urged her to eat.
But their beautiful mate shook her head and glanced back at the cubs, "Later"
Blake sighed and glanced at Noah, ’You tell her’ clearly inscribed in his gaze.
"Baby dove...." Noah started but stopped when he saw Killian striding inside the room.
He came near the bed and lifted Lyra amidst her protest and went out of the room while Blake followed him.
Settling her on the stone chair, he snatched the breakfast from Blake’s hands and forwarded the spoon filled with soup against her lips, "Eat"
Lyra pursed her lips and stared at Killian. There was a brief staring contest between them but Lyra lost first and parted her lips. Better than arguing with her stubborn panther.
Killian’s lips rose into a winning smile and he cast a glance at Blake.
Blake frowned when Killian mouthed, ’This is how it is done, dumb snake’
