Chapter 170: Pretty female

Darcio observed the fox beastman as he made his way toward the cubs.

’He is powerful’ he mused to himself. But the thing that perplexed him was the two distinct eye colors of the stranger. Darcio didn’t want to think about it but the ones who had those features in the past never had a happy ending.

Darcio didn’t know what to think at this moment. He had no attachment toward the fox prince and his life meant nothing to him. The only thing that mattered to him was his master and his tribe’s well-being. Maybe that’s why? He couldn’t help but worry because he suddenly had a vision regarding his master.

The one where Demir was lying in the pool of blood while Xavier was standing opposite him with a cold face. Darcio clenched his fists as his entire body shook in terror. He cast a fleeting glance at his master standing in the corner of the room and frowned.

Darcio wanted nothing but to take his master away from this place. His vision was still unclear but he didn’t want to take any risks.

"Master" he called to get Demir’s attention, "Lady has been unconscious for too long" well it was not that long but he wanted Demir to leave this room at all cost.

"Let her sleep some more" It was Blake who answered this time. He looked at Darcio and added, "She seemed tired. I think it is good for her to take some more rest"

"No your majesty!" Darcio suddenly exclaimed surprising them. He glimpsed at Xavier’s confused face before turning towards his master, "Earlier I sensed her magic turning unstable" he felt bad for lying but it’s not like he had any other choice, "It is not optimal for her to remain unconscious during this period"

"Why didn’t you inform me this earlier!?" Demir bellowed and left the room as soon as Darcio finished talking.

Meanwhile, Blake contemplated in his place for some time before following Demir.

Noah was the only one remaining together with Xavier. He worriedly glanced at Darcio but he didn’t have any other choice than to stay back. He knew that his mate wouldn’t appreciate him leaving the cubs’ side during their treatment.

Whereas Xavier who was silently observing all of this from the sidelines smirked. His curious gaze reached Darcio and he chuckled when the latter flinched. All of the things uttered by Darcio were lies and Xavier didn’t know why he said that. The ones who didn’t know about magic fell for his lies but Xavier was different.

Xavier didn’t mention anything about it because he didn’t care. He was here to save Noah’s cubs and only that was in his mind. And the matter regarding Noah’s female or the old sage didn’t matter to him so he had no interest to clarify the truth.

He removed his eyes from the sage and started concentrating on freezing the poison inside the cubs’ bodies. His eyes narrowed as soon as he saw the cubs’ condition. Their complexion was bad and the intake of feeble breaths grew shorter each second. Normally male cubs are stronger and normal poisons cannot affect them to this extent. So the only conclusion that he had was that poison was very potent.

"How did they get poisoned?" He curiously asked Noah.

Noah was confused by the sudden query but soon answered, "It was my mate that was poisoned. They were in her womb at that time"

Xavier furrowed his brows. He didn’t know how a female got poisoned. They are precious to each tribe and by Noah’s words, it was clear that someone purposely poisoned her. And due to her pregnancy, the poison that was supposed to harm her shifted to the cubs in her womb. He tried to remain indifferent but it was deemed hard to do that as time passed.

First, he got to learn about a female having mystic powers and now about the possible threat to her life. Previously, Noah mentioned her being Theodore’s daughter. So it was natural for him to think about his late father. Xavier knew that his father had enmity toward Theodore and his mate. Was he the one responsible for this poisoning incident? Or was it someone completely different?

Xavier wanted to ask Noah about it but decided against it after thinking properly. It didn’t matter even if his father was the culprit because he didn’t have any notion of taking responsibility for his father’s eccentric deeds. For now, he decided to cure the cubs and started manifesting his powers inside their bodies.

It was tricky for him to freeze only the poison but he succeed after multiple attempts. Right now the cubs were shivering from intensified cold and Noah looked at them worried.

"They will be fine right?"

Xavier turned towards Noah and nodded, "Yes, for now but it can get harmful if my powers remain inside their bodies for a long time. So make sure to find the antidote as soon as possible"

Noah sighed. Now his only hope was the spirit wings. He decided to return this favor to Victor in the future.

He came out of his thoughts sensing his mate’s presence nearing the room. Getting up from the ground, he strode towards the door and saw his beloved’s small figure descending the stairs.

"Baby dove?"

Xavier’s gaze turned towards the commotion and he felt himself freeze in his place. For a second he felt like his eyes were playing a trick against him. There was no other explanation other than that.

Golden blonde hair like that of shining silk swayed in the wind with each movement she took. Blue eyes that rivaled the vast sky were shining with unshed tears made his heart clench. Quivering red lips on her stunning face were so heart-wrenchingly lovely.

He forgot to breathe as she went past him and reached the bed.

Lyra wiped her tears with the back of her hand before looking at the cubs. Her hand stretched towards them and her eyes went wide noticing their temperature.

"Why are they so cold?" She turned to Noah and whimpered.

Noah came to her and explained everything regarding the treatment. Lyra listened to it attentively and sighed a relief, "Thank God...."

"Is it a dangerous place? The one where Victor went to?" That was her next concern. She didn’t want him to fall in danger for her sake.

"He will be fine" Blake was the one to answer as he entered the room. Noticing his mate’s doubtful look, he added, "You know him, Lilly. He is strong"

"But he is impulsive" Lyra was not convinced. She knew Victor well. He must have purposefully left the castle when she was unconscious to evade her questions. Yes, he is strong but sometimes his overconfidence led him into trouble.

"One of you should have at least accompanied him" she whined already feeling a headache.

Then she noticed an unfamiliar face inside the room.

Xavier suddenly snapped out of his daze when he sensed her attention on him. He clenched and unclenched his fists feeling nervous.

Lyra glanced at Noah and raised her brows to which the latter responded, "He is the new fox king"

"Ah" she nodded and smiled at Xavier gratefully, "Thank you so much. I will never forget your help"

Xavier flinched in his place hearing her soft voice directed at him. He wanted to give a snarky reply like always but he couldn’t bring himself to do that and that frustrated him.

Lyra tilted her head and blinked at him but soon turned away when she heard the cubs whimpering.

And Xavier was able to breathe properly only when her eyes left him. He thought that she might hate him because of his identity. Xavier was sure that his father must have troubled her in some way in the past. So her behavior toward him surprised him.

Then another reason for him to feel surprised was how she didn’t show contempt or at least pity looking at his cursed eyes. Everyone that he had met until now would narrow their eyes or subtly frown when they notice his distinct pupils. So the normal reaction that this pretty female showed him felt foreign to him.
