Chapter 169: Exchange

Xavier stared at the lion beastman in front of him with a blank face.

He was sleeping in his room when one of his guards woke him up. It irked him to no end when he was informed about the visiting of an unwanted guest in the middle of the night.

Xavier was going to throw out whoever it was until he heard their name. ’Noah’ the only prince of the lion tribe wanted to meet him. The young beastman that always pestered him in every gathering that he attended during his childhood.

His presence was unwanted to the ones from the fox tribe and that included his father. The late fox king was always displeased whenever the fox queen took Xavier with her for gatherings. Maybe it was due to guilt toward his mate? the fox king took every opportunity to isolate young Xavier from the outside world.

Then the thing about the fox queen. Xavier had to admit that he was grateful for that woman. She never chastised him even when she knew that Xavier was the child born between her mate and another woman. He was well fed, taken care and happy until he learned the truth behind his birth.

Xavier closed his two distinct iris and took a deep breath. It was always like this. He would get carried away into those darkest days of his life once he started to recall everything. And the cause for him to remember that right now is because of that lion beastman.

He knew that Noah had good intentions while trying to converse with him in the past when everyone his age ignored or loathed his presence. But that pity directed at him angered Xavier. It was like a reminder of his pathetic existence and that was why he maintained his distance from everyone including Noah.

Noah was like a shining star compared to his gloomy self and Xavier didn’t like that. So he was surprised when he saw someone so confident and happy shedding silent tears in front of him now.

"Xavier, I need your help," Noah said while trying his hardest to control his sob, "Please...."

Xavier frowned, "You should explain more. I’m not a mind reader to guess your problems"

It was a cold response but Noah expected it. Xavier was never a warm person in that regard.

"My cubs are poisoned and I need your help in stopping it from reaching their hearts" he stared directly at him and added, "At least until we can find an antidote"

Xavier raised his brows, "And how are you so sure that I’m capable of doing something like that? I’m a fox beastman Noah"

Noah nodded, "I know" he sighed, "And I also know that you can wield ice powers"

A sardonic smirk adorned Xavier’s lips as soon as he heard those words. His biggest secret was out in the open and he had no idea about it. And that followed smoldering rage.

Noah was sent flying against the stone wall. He tried to stand but collapsed due to the immense pressure on his chest. The beast pressure of a higher-level beastmen overwhelmed him. The only saving grace for his predicament was his king’s bloodline. Normal beastmen wouldn’t be able to resist this much and would instantly die.

"Le-let me explain," Noah groaned trying to convince Xavier.

Meanwhile, the latter just looked at him coldly and implored, "How did you get to know about my powers? Explain right now or you will die"

Noah sighed, "Someone acquainted with your uncle in the past informed me about your ice powers. He said that your uncle was training you when you were young"

Xavier frowned, "My uncle’s acquaintance? That’s not possible....." Everyone who knew about his uncle was killed by his grandfather. Xavier didn’t know how to react to this newfound information.

"Who is it?" He asked the next thing that got him curious.

Noah was hesitant to answer that. Xavier was the prince of the fox tribe and the late fox King was his father. He was dubious about informing him about Theodore and Iria. But the one at a disadvantage now was him and he had no choice other than to reveal everything to Xavier.

"Do you know Theodore?" He asked doubtfully, "He was once an eagle king"

Xavier’s eyes went wide at his words, "He is alive....?" How could he not about that eagle beastman? Theodore was the one responsible for his grandfather’s death. The late fox King hated him and wanted to get revenge on him.

Noah got up from the ground and nodded, "He is indeed alive. And another thing.." Xavier turned to him and Noah added grimly, "He is my mate’s father"

It was a warning and Xavier understood that. Noah was saying that he shouldn’t have any grudge against his mate’s father or there will be consequences. Xavier was amused for a second. Noah was not strong enough to face him but his tribe was another story. The lion tribe is the most powerful inside the beast city together with the support silver wolf tribe.

Driving the fox tribe out of the city was easy for them and as a new king of his tribe, Xavier didn’t want anything like that to happen. But this situation right now....enraged him. He stared at Noah and smirked, "You asked to save your cubs?"

Noah’s gaze faltered for a moment but he soon recovered. That’s right, he was the one in need of favor right now, "Yes..."

Xavier’s smirk broadened hearing the former’s weak reply, "So.....what can you give me in exchange for saving your cubs?"

Noah stared back at Xavier and asked, "What do you need?" There was no hesitation in words. So as long as he could save his cubs, Noah didn’t care about the price he had to pay.

Xavier raised his brows, "I’ll help you"

Noah was surprised but frowned hearing his next words, "But about the exchange...I will demand it in the future"

"Why can’t you ask it right now?" Noah asked suspiciously.

Xavier chuckled, "Don’t worry, I won’t ask for something weird"

Blake narrowed his eyes and turned towards the door. An unfamiliar aura inside the castle made him defensive but he soon relaxed seeing Noah. Then his attention went towards the one behind him. Shining silver hair with red ends and two different pupils. Crimson in one and onyx in another.

Noah noticed Blake and answered, "He is the prince of the fox tribe"

"Hah," Blake nodded and moved away from the bed.

Noah glanced at Xavier and pointed at the cubs sleeping, "Please save them"
