Chapter 146: Feeling proud
Chapter 146: Feeling proud
After a few moments, Noah returned with a stone container filled with hot water.
Few drops fell on his feet while he was rushing, but he was too occupied with his mate’s thoughts to notice.
He strode past the others standing outside and entered the room and froze seeing his mate’s condition.
"Baby dove..." He mumbled pitifully and tried his best to hold back his tears. He wanted to stay strong for his mate’s sake, so he took a deep breath to calm himself.
His mother was the first to notice him. She strode toward him and took the stone container from his hands, "She will be fine"
The queen didn’t know what else to say other than that. Even she was feeling sad seeing Lyra’s condition, so she didn’t dare to think about the level of her son’s grief.
Noah clenched his fists and stepped toward the bed.
Iria got up from her place because she felt that him staying beside her is the best course of action for both him and her daughter now. They could rely on each other and seeing the face of the father of the child her daughter was giving birth to would be advantageous to her both emotionally and morally.
"Agh!" They came out of their thoughts hearing another heart-wrenching scream from Lyra.
Iria momentarily closed her tear-filled eyes after seeing her daughter’s agony.
Meanwhile, Lyra looked at Noah beside her and gazed at him with blurry vision. Her heart clenched seeing the regretful look on his face.
And as if affirming her doubt, she heard him murmur, "All of this is my fault....."
Lyra could almost guess the reason for his regret and she didn’t like it even a little bit. He must be thinking that it was his fault to get her pregnant and it was alright even if this child...she didn’t dare think any further than that.
The next thing that came to her mind is that this should stop. If he keeps this mentality, then what if he comes to hate the child who did nothing wrong in the future? Lyra also couldn’t rule out the possibility of losing her life at the end of the labor because she swore that she never felt this much pain before in her life.
What if she really dies? Even Noah, the child’s father is blaming the child, so what about her other mates? Would they at worst...kill the child if she does die? So many bad thoughts like these swirled inside her mind making her even more panicked.
Noah noticed her quickened breathing and was frightened, "Baby dove.....Wh-what is happening?"
His mother too sitting on the other side frowned, "Lyra, Try to stay calm.....it will get even more difficult if you do this"
Lyra took a glance at Noah’s mother and soon started to take a deep breath. She didn’t wish to make it even more difficult for both her and the child. But she also thought that this was the right time to clear her mind by talking to Noah.
"Noah...." She called but it was more like a weak whisper.
As beastmen have sharp hearing, Noah perfectly heard her and held her small hand between his larger ones, "What is it?"
Lyra peered at his clear brown eyes and parted her lips, "Promise me"
"Promise?"
She nodded, "You will always love and protect our child right?"
Noah frowned not understanding her purpose for bringing up that question, "Offcourse I love and will always love our child" he answered without hesitation bringing out a faint smile on her lips.
Lyra opened her mouth to say something but another series of terrible pain stopped her, "Ahhhhh! Agh!"
Noah’s eyes went wide in terror, "Baby dove!"
His outcry startled the ones standing outside. They looked at the closed door with panic-filled eyes.
"Sunshine..." Demir felt his heart tighten as he continued to listen to his beloved’s crying and screaming. He wished that he could exchange the pain she is feeling right now. He was alright if that soothed her even a little bit. But Demir also knew that it was just wishful thinking and it was not possible in reality.
His heart secretly swelled up in admiration for every female in the world. They were such delicate beings but were ready to go through so much pain to give birth.
The next thought that came to his mind was about his own mother. He couldn’t understand why she hated him so much even after giving birth to him by going through such pain. She loathed just the sight of him and always pushed him away whenever he went near her.
Demir wanted to ask her why she was doing this to him. It was not his fault that his father was a cold-blooded beastman right? He smiled bitterly because he knew that he could never ask her this question and maybe he would also never get an answer to that until the end.
He shook his head and came out of his thoughts. Once again Lyra wailed and he got more and more worried as time passed.
Meanwhile, back inside the room, the lion queen said in delight, "I can see the child’s head now! Keep on pushing Lyra"
Lyra clasped her mate’s hand and exerted every ounce of her strength and felt something slip along her lower body.
"He is here!" The lion queen exclaimed with a choked voice. Tears streamed down her eyes looking at her little grandson. He looked just like Noah when he was born and that melted her heart.
Noah cast a joyous glance at his son in his mother’s hands but soon returned his gaze to his mate. She was breathing very feebly and her eyes kept on closing and opening.
The lion queen wanted to wipe the little one but Iria held her hand, "I’ll do it"
The queen handed over her grandson to Lyra’s mother and returned her attention to Lyra. She noticed her falling asleep and frowned, "Not yet, Lyra...You have to stay awake. There is a chance of being more than one cub inside your stomach"
Lyra who was ready to fall asleep snapped opened her eyes. She saw the lion queen once again lifting her duvet.
Before she could relax, another set of contractions made her scream. By now, her throat had turned hoarse and even her painful cry came out as pitiful whimpers.
"You can do it Lyra. Take a deep breath and give a push" the queen’s encouraging words rang inside the room.
Noah bent his head and buried his face in the crook of her neck. Lyra felt a scorching liquid on her nape and realized that he was crying. Her heart brimmed with both happiness and heartache. She felt blessed for having such a caring man in her life. Lyra sometimes heard that men don’t cry easily in her old world and their crying meant that they were really in the love with the woman.
But after coming into this world, she realized that the saying was right in the best way possible. Her mates were powerful and well respected by their respective tribes, but they did not hesitate to show their love and adoration for her. They cried and laughed in front of her without any restraint. Lyra was somewhat proud that the reason for their varied emotions was her. She once again felt thankful for whatever factor that brought her to this world.
She cast a tired glance at the big man in her embrace. Clenching her teeth, she exerted her remaining strength to push the child out. Lyra previously heard about lion cubs dying due to suffocation if not given birth as soon as possible, so she ignored her exhaustion before giving a final push.
"Ahhhhhhh!" Her scream resounded inside the room and Lyra’s eyes closed due to extreme weariness.
Noah lifted his head and his eyes shook violently when he noticed her closed eyes, "Baby dove....?"
The lion queen held the second cub in her hand and saw Lyra with complicated eyes. She outstretched her other hand on Lyra’s stomach and sighed a relief after feeling it empty.
There seemed to be no more cubs inside her but the lion Queen couldn’t help but feel surprised. She felt proud and thankful for her son’s mate. The lion queen always worried about Lyra but it seemed unnecessary. The girl was stronger than she believed.
