Chapter 142: Lion tribe
Chapter 142: Lion tribe
Noah was packing her luggage when she entered her room.
Lyra strode toward him and started helping by folding her clothes, "Can we go tomorrow?" She suddenly asked while keeping a folded cloth on the bundle.
He halted his movements hearing her, "Why?" Noah didn’t say it out loud, but he felt extremely angry hearing his mate’s words. It was always like this. Whenever he asked her to move to the lion tribe, she pushed that idea away without giving any proper explanation.
Lyra awkwardly glanced at him, "I have not yet informed Blake about leaving the castle. He is avoiding talking about it with me"
Noah looked at her in disbelief, "Baby dove, Is he the only one important to you?" He didn’t mind her prioritizing Blake more than him in her life. But disregarding her safety because of that snake was unacceptable.
"Noah, how can you....?"
"That is the exact meaning behind your words," He said cutting her off, "Basically, you are saying that it is alright to neglect your health for that snake"
Lyra frowned, "Noah, it’s really not like that" she talked to all her mates but the only one remaining was Blake. He was avoiding talking to her and that made her both angry and sad at the same time. For a minute, she thought about leaving without seeing his face, but she couldn’t bring herself to do that. She felt suffocated just by the mere thought of Blake being disappointed after her departure without even informing him.
But she also understood Noah’s thoughts. Her being reluctant to leave was the same as disregarding his concern for her. Sighing, she glanced at him after making up her mind, "Let us leave"
Noah’s eyes mellowed. It was not his intention to scold her, but he couldn’t help himself when she put others before her well-being, "Baby dove, you know that I’m worried about you right?"
She nodded and hugged him, "I know, I’m sorry for being unreasonable"
"I’m sorry too" he replied, "I shouldn’t have gotten angry at you"
"It’s fine," she said and they got back to packing the luggage.
After a few minutes, the preparation for moving out was completed.
Noah handed the luggage to a guard beastman from the lion tribe when they reached the entrance of the rose castle.
Then he turned to his beast form to carry his mate.
Lyra hugged her parents and climbed on her mate’s back and Noah started to move slowly making sure that she was comfortable.
"Be safe Dear" she heard her mother’s voice in a distance as they crossed the rose castle’s walls.
Lyra relaxed on her mate’s back and after an hour, they finally reached the Lion tribe.
After passing through the boundary surrounding the lion tribe, Lyra caught sight of Noah’s parents in front of a giant stone castle.
The lion queen couldn’t stop smiling after seeing her son and daughter-in-law. The lion king too felt very happy noticing his son’s pleasant smile while seeing his mate.
Noah was already back in his beastman form and held Lyra’s hands carefully while striding toward his parents.
"Are you alright Baby dove?" He repeatedly asked to make sure that she was not uncomfortable after traveling.
Lyra’s forehead was covered with sweat and she felt a little nauseous. She thought about lying to not worry him, but soon changed her mind, "I don’t feel well"
She felt her head spin and her stomach ached slightly. This was the first time she felt something like this and it made her anxious for some reason.
Noah’s brows furrowed. He anxiously glanced at his mother from a distance.
The lion queen noticed her son’s troubled face and strode towards them with her spouse, "What’s wrong?"
Noah glanced at Lyra and replied, "She is not feeling well"
His mother’s face turned pale. She looked at Lyra with worried eyes, "What is happening, dear? Do you feel pain somewhere?"
Lyra nodded her head, "I feel tired, and my stomach hurts a little"
The queen nodded thoughtfully, "Maybe it is due to your traveling. You should come inside and rest" then she glanced at her son, "I think it is better if you carry her inside"
As soon as his mother finished speaking, Noah hoisted his mate off the ground and carried her into the lion’s castle. He took her to his room on the ground floor passing many guard beastmen on his way.
Many of them, glimpsed at Lyra curiously. They felt delighted because their tribe’s only prince was having a successor.
After walking for some time, Noah reached his room and entered it with his mate still in his arms.
Lyra briefly opened her eyes but soon closed them after hearing her mate’s words, "Get some sleep, baby dove"
He tucked her into the bed and tried to stand up but stopped when he felt a tug on his arms, "Don’t leave....." He heard his mate’s soft voice and smiled, "I’m not leaving, I will be right here with you"
"Hmm" she replied groggily and entered her dreamland. Lyra felt nervous to stay alone. Her mate’s presence soothed her anxiety, so she didn’t want to part with him.
Noah observed his mate’s serene face and sighed. Her condition worried him. She had so much difficulty controlling her sleepiness nowadays. On top of that, her stomach aching before the due date made him dreadful.
The lion tribe’s pregnancy was difficult to even for the females born in their own tribe. Noah didn’t want to think about anything worse because it would only increase his stress. He reminded himself to stay strong for his mate. He couldn’t get weak when his mate was in such a situation herself. She has always been a source of comfort and solace for him and he wanted to be the same for her now.
But first, he has to ask his mother about this or he feels like he would go crazy from worrying. He carefully removed his hand from Lyra’s grip and got down from the bed.
Noah just stepped out but he saw his mother already standing in front of his room.
"Mother....?"
"Lyra will go into labor shortly" he froze in his place hearing his mother’s words.
"Wh-what?" He stuttered still in shock, "She is not yet due....." He wanted to explain but closed his mouth when he saw his mother’s serious face.
Then something flashed in his mind, "No way...."
"She will be giving birth prematurely" he staggered getting an affirmation from his mother.
Noah glanced at the queen with trembling eyes, "Mother, please do something"
He never felt this terrified in his entire life. Not when he faced a strong rival or not when he saw Daniel’s death.
His friend and Lucas’s brother, Daniel’s death was the day he felt terrible dread and anxiety but knowing the fact about his mate’s condition now, heightened even that feeling.
Noah suddenly felt regretful for making his mate pregnant. He was well aware of the truth about his siblings dying during birth and his mother’s near-death experience but he still impregnated his mate.
"Mother.....what should I do?" He asked with a desperate face.
The queen’s heart broke seeing her son’s horrified face. He was always thoughtful and upright and his pleading face felt unfamiliar to her. She tried her best to calm her emotions and looked at him, "We should get ready to assist her because her stomach contractions will get worse from now on"
He remained silent as she continued, "I have arranged the best witch doctor from our tribe to assist her labor" she then hesitantly glanced at him, "And...."
"What is it, mother?" He asked. Noah didn’t have enough patience to wait in this situation.
The queen narrowed her eyes and parted her lips, "I heard about a sage in the scorpion tribe, his presence will be advantageous if something goes wrong"
Noah nodded, "I will bring him myself, I know that sage"
"That’s great" her face brightened, "Try to bring me here as soon as possible"
"I will" he answered and glanced at his room briefly before rushing out of that place.
Meanwhile, the lion queen entered the room and sat beside Lyra, "I hope everything goes well..."
Demir was inside his room when he heard about Noah’s visit from one of the guard beastman.
"Where is he now?" He said getting up from his bed. He was confused about the reason for Noah’s sudden appearance in his tribe. Noah was not someone who acted on a whim and that fact worried Demir. He unconsciously felt that something must be wrong.
And, like an answer to his doubt, he caught sight of Noah’s distressed face. Demir felt his heart thump loudly in his chest as he waited for Noah to speak.
"Please, help me....." Noah pleaded with a helpless face, "Baby dove....she...." He couldn’t bring himself to continue his words because he felt his throat tighten.
Demir’s face turned dark as soon as Lyra’s name left his mouth, "What happened to sunshine?"
