Chapter 94: The Alpha Stays

Chapter 94: The Alpha Stays

VALENCIA’S POV

Scolding.

That was what I was receiving from Carl and even Dylan who was on the video call at the same time as they looked at me through narrowed brows.

"I understand," I said after some time, which enraged him even more.

"You understand? Do you really understand? You have no idea how worried we were. My heart nearly leaped out of my chest when Carl said he saw your blood on the ground. And what did you do? Even after running away from there, rather than calling us and telling us you were fine, you came back as if nothing happened and fell asleep while we all were losing our minds," Dylan said and I hummed.

He was the only person who had been worried about me through and through without hurting me in return. And thus, when he was scolding me like this, I didn’t rebuke it.

"In my defense, I am used to dealing with things alone. Do you think you know about all of my adventures? This hasn’t happened for the first time and nor would it be the last. And I definitely didn’t know someone was looking for me," I said, looking at Carl because I didn’t dare to look at Alpha Maverick after the heated kiss we shared.

Dylan sighed.

I know he was angry and frustrated, and the fact that he wasn’t here with me was probably frustrating him even more.

That was the sole reason I never told them about anything until something major out of my control happened.

For example, the first time I called Dylan in all those months was when this alpha found me.

"What happened?" Dylan asked me, and I am sure he saw the sudden flicker of emotions in my eyes.

He always does.

For some reason, he always senses when something is wrong with me.

"It’s Carl," I said shamelessly and the guy looked at me with his pupils dilated before he looked at his feet ashamed.

"What about him?" Dylan asked, and I bit my bottom lip.

"He isn’t allowing me to go on a trip. You know I don’t like controlling freaks," I said, mustering up my best sad innocent innocent-looking so that Dylan doesn’t suspect anything.

Judging from Carl’s expression I knew he thought I was going to snitch on him.

If only I was that kind of person, to begin with.

"Where do you want to go?" Dylan asked with an amused expression.

"I will tell you later. There is an Alpha here," I said openly, not hiding the fact that his presence was making me uncomfortable.

However, rather than getting angry at me, he just looked my way and scoffed.

"This alpha stays," He said, more like announced and silence fell between us.

Nobody knew what to say now that Maverick said these words.

He was powerful, and he surely knew how to execute his power in the room very well.

"Alpha Maverick, you need to stay away from Valencia, respectfully," Dylan gritted through his teeth.

I nodded my head at him in agreement.

I was waiting for his answer. I knew he would come up with a befitting reply because there was no way the man I knew would go down easily like that.

However, he didn’t say anything and just stood in his place.

Was he leaving for real?

’And why does that make you disappointed?’ Aurora asked me, making me clear my throat.

’I wasn’t disappointed, okay?’ I told her, but was I really able to lie to my heart?

I didn’t dare to look at him, not wanting to feel more anxious than I already was.

However, as I thought he was leaving me, he came behind me, sending my body into alert mode.

I could feel him smirking at Carl and Dylan, even when I couldn’t see him.

He was just like that.

"Alpha Maverick -" Dylan started again, but in the next second, I felt his hot breath on the nape of my neck. A shiver ran down my spine.

"I can’t stay away from her, Dylan. Respectfully," Maverick said, his cold words appearing more like a challenge.

A challenge that said if anyone dared to defy his words, he would personally see to it that the person wasn’t able to walk anymore.

It irritated me.

No. It wasn’t Maverick.

My own body and emotions were irritating me. It was almost like I wanted him to stay away from me but close at the same time.

I was disappointed when he stood, thinking he was leaving, but I turned angry the moment he declared he wouldn’t stay away from me either.

It was making me lose my mind.

With a sigh, I stood from my place.

"As you all can see, I got wounded and I am tired now. Don’t bother me anymore," I was about to ascend the stairs when I heard Dylan’s exclaimed voice.

"Where did that bird come from?!" Dylan asked, his unusually raised voice surprising my Happy, who immediately flew towards me and sat on my shoulders, making me scowl at Carl who turned the camera in my direction.

"That’s my new friend. It’s called Happy," I told Dylan, who was looking at me in clear shock.

Seriously? What was his deal?

Wait. There was no way he knew about Happy, right? This was the first time I heard of an ancient bird flying in the modern venture. Dylan wouldn’t know about the real size of this bird and which century it belonged to, right?

Though Happy was a bit peculiar, he almost looked close to modern birds.

As if Happy also felt his intrigued gaze, it immediately flew upstairs, going straight to my room, and I sighed.

I looked at Alpha Maverick, who was also glaring at my bird.

Seriously? What was wrong with everyone?

"That thing better stay out of the house when I visit," Maverick walked to me and whispered in my ears, making my heart thump in my chest.

What did he mean by that? Will he visit again? And just because Happy bit his hand, he was going to be so harsh with it?

"It won’t go out," I seethed through my lips.

Maverick looked into my eyes for a few seconds before smiling.

"Then it’s your choice. I am sure he won’t dare to interrupt what I have in mind for you, but would you really want to taint your pet’s eyes?" Maverick cupped my cheeks, his thumb massaging my skin, and I am sure I was looking like a red Tomato as heat crept up my face at the insinuation behind his words.

"You wanted to sleep? Go sleep. No one will disturb you," He said before he leaned forward, making me lean back subconsciously.

He smiled at me, his eyes beaming before he flicked my nose.

"Thanks for forgiving me. I don’t know what I would’ve done if you hadn’t," He said.

I scowled. When did I forgive him?

"I haven’t," I said defensively.

"You have," he said before tucking my hair behind my ears and turning around.

"Let’s discuss the ball that the Dark Callisto pack is going to arrange in a month. The council is taking responsibility for security, right?" Maverick said.

Why was my home a meeting venue suddenly?

Well, as long as they keep me out of it. I sighed, turned around, and left.
