Chapter 62: Weird pain

Chapter 62: Weird pain

VALENCIA’S POV

Something was strange.

I could feel it in the air.

No. Actually, I could feel it in my mouth. What was this weird taste? I was almost feeling like a vampire who drank someone’s blood.

Gosh!! Even the thought of it is disgusting and nerve-wracking. I groaned, kicking my legs in the air as I looked around, feeling strange.

Was someone in my room last night?

I indeed felt like I heard Shadow’s voice.

With wide eyes, I stood from my place and rushed to the drawer.

Seeing my identity card still intact in the box with nothing touched, I heaved a sigh of relief.

Thank God Shadow wasn’t here. There is no way he would’ve left such crucial evidence against me untouched. I mean there was no other reason for him to come here other than spying on me because of how much of a loyal beta he was.

Not to mention, I would’ve felt it if he was here.

But about that strangely vivid dream that I had...

A blush rose on my cheeks as soon as I remembered that heated kiss shared between me and Shadow in that dream. It was so intense that it almost felt real and...

Wait. Why the hell did I have that dream in the first place? Was it really true? Was I starting to feel for that man?

No. Obviously not. What the hell? Where did that thought even come from?

I furrowed my brows before looking at my wolf who was atrociously quiet today.

I am sure this fake wolf has something to do with it.

With a sigh, I got off the bed and took a quick shower before getting ready.

There were too many things that needed to be done on my list.

The exams were starting next week, but before that, there was this engagement ceremony that I was invited to and I needed to attend.

"Good morning, princess," Carl said, and I looked at me, amused at his choice of greeting.

If there has to be a fitting name given to me, I can assure these people that it won’t be anything related to a princess of any kind.

’What have you done Mitsuki?’ I heard the voice echo in my head, making me furrow my brows.

What the - where did I hear-

"Are you okay?" Carl asked, bringing me out of my thoughts, and I nodded at him.

"Yeah, I am fine. A little peachy. I don’t know. My head hurts, and I probably ate something bad from the stalls. It’s a weird dizzy feeling," I groaned.

"Is that so? Let me check," Carl suddenly stood from his place and walked to me, placing his hand on my forehead, making me widen my eyes when I saw how close he came and stood to me.

He smells nice too. I thought dreamily before clearing my throat to remove that thought from my head.

He looked down, blinking his eyes as if he was thinking of something too before he shook his head.

"Dylan will kill me," he said, more like murmuring to himself.

What was he talking about? Why would Dylan kill him? For looking into my eyes? I know Dylan can be a little overprotective sometimes, but wasn’t Carl exaggerating a little?

I wanted to ask him what he was talking about but then decided to let it go.

"Since you are feeling unwell, just drink the juice today. Also, no oily food today," Carl said. I nodded at him.

I was about to ask him about his plans for the day when I felt a weird aching sensation in my chest.

Sweat beads started to appear on my forehead as I started to feel uneasy.

My throat was starting to feel constricted, like something was clogging my food pipe, rendering me unable to speak anything.

’Aurora, what’s happening to me?’ I asked my wolf, but just like earlier, she kept quiet and hid in the back of my head, making me lock my jaws.

I saw Carl preparing some fresh juice for me my vision started to blur and tears brimmed my eyes.

"Carl-" I wanted to call his name, but the sudden contraction of my throat was making it unbelievably hard for me. The feeling was almost equal to someone trying to choke me, rendering me unable to breathe.

"Carl!" I shouted with all I had, clearing my throat when everything went back to normal.

Carl, who was busy, nearly shook in his place at my sudden voice.

"What is it? Are you hurt?" He rushed to my side, and I looked into his eyes before shaking my head.

I blinked my eyes furiously to shoo away the tears before forcing a smile on my face.

What am I supposed to tell him when I don’t even know what just happened? The pain came and then left just like that.

It was the kind of pain I never felt before, and with no help from Aurora, how do I explain it?

"I actually called your name twice, but you weren’t listening so I raised my voice. It went too loud. Sorry," I said, and he sighed.

"What is it? Why were you calling? Stupid girl. I thought something happened," Carl asked, pinching my chin, and I looked at him, noticing how my vision felt like it was even more refined than before.

Was this pain some kind of upgrade of my skills or something? I scoffed at my own theory.

"Can you help me take the leave without telling Dylan about it? I want to go and attend the engagement," I asked Carl, looking at him cautiously to gauge his reaction, who stared at me.

His expression didn’t look too promising, and I was about to give up on the idea when he hummed.

"Fine. I will come to your University," Carl said, and I raised my brows.

"Really? I mean Dylan would surely be angry if he found out," I said, reminding him about the consequences of his actions.

"You are not going there to eat the engagement celebration cake. You are going there to destroy it and probably execute a little of your revenge," Carl said as he sat beside me after placing the juice on the table.

I looked at him, unsure of what to say.

He was allowing me to go to the party even when he knew what I had in mind.

"You must be wondering why I am supporting you, right?" He asked, and I nodded my head, truly surprised.

He smiled before he sighed.

"Maybe because I have seen people destroying themselves in the rage of vengeance. And that’s the last thing I want for you. The rage inside you, I don’t want it to hurt you. You should take it out on people who deserve it. Besides, you won’t be there alone. I will be there with you, protecting you," he gazed into my eyes for a few seconds, a strangely familiar emotion flickering in his eyes, making me gulp.

"But-"

"But Dylan will surely be a problem. I am sure he will smack both of our asses. So make sure your plan is worth it and give us some fun before the punishment," Carl said before he stood and placed his dishes in the sink.

"Why? Why are you taking that risk? The alphas would be there. The council would be there. You might even get suspended for all we know," I walked to him, forcing him to look at me again.

Carl shrugged.

"I know, right? Make sure you earn a lot with your paintings because you’ll have to take care of me too," He chuckled before ruffling my hair.

"Believe it or not, princess, but I want to take care of you. We won’t ever be able to take your parents’ place or revert what happened to you, but we can take care of you in the future. Don’t ever let anything lessen your glow," Carl pinched my cheeks before he walked inside his room and came back with his work suitcase.

"Another meeting?" I asked, and he nodded with an exaggerated sigh.

"Let’s go. I will drop you," he said and followed him out.
