Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 53: She was scared
Chapter 53: She was scared
ALPHA MAVERICK’S POV
I don’t know what triggered her.
But one look at the way she was running out of the classroom, not even stopping when I called her, I knew something was the matter.
And what did I do? I left the lecture that I was supposed to take and ran behind her to stop and ask her what was the matter.
With all the rogues roaming around and targeting her, I was afraid that it was something related to that and her walking out of the University all alone wasn’t the best idea in the world.
’Stop lying to yourself. You were just worried about her. Not even once did the word rogue cross your mind,’ Reaper chimed in, and I glared at him, making him shrug before he looked away.
’I was just stating facts,’’ He pouted.
As I was saying, I followed her and was about to stop her when I saw her getting inside Aiden’s car.
That should’ve been my limit of chasing her, and I should’ve walked to the class to give my lecture. However, the words like club, and street fighting that they talked about got to me, and I walked straight to my car, following them.
They didn’t move for long and stopped at a distance near a restaurant.
I don’t know what was wrong.
But one moment they were going just fine, and the other moment, Aiden quickly got out of the car.
Judging from the way he raked his hand through his hair while looking inside the car, I knew something was wrong.
Without wasting a second, I took off my seatbelt and walked to them.
"What’s going on?" I asked, letting my alpha voice surface a little and Aiden nearly jumped in his place.
"S-sir, what are you ... That doesn’t matter. It’s Valencia. She fell asleep suddenly and it looks like she is having some kind of nightmare. It’s..." Aiden stuttered, and I peeped inside.
Her sweating site as her body was nearly shivering while she hugged herself and whimpered made Reaper growl protectively.
"Go bring a bottle of water. We will have to wake her," I said before sitting inside the car and closing the door.
I was tempted to take her to the hospital, but from her last visit and what I heard from the nurse, she clearly didn’t like staying at the hospital.
"Valencia, open your eyes," I shook her body before turning the Air conditioning to the maximum.
’Scoop her in your arms. It will help,’ Reaper suggested, and I looked around.
However, seeing Aiden rushing towards the car with the bottle of water in his hand, and how Valencia is always worried about the image, I knew it would be a risky move.
With a sigh, I took her hands in mine.
"Sir," Aiden knocked on the window.
"I have turned on the AC. Come sit in the back seat," I said even when I would’ve rather preferred it if he stayed out of it and away from her.
Pulling out my handkerchief, I gently wiped the sweat from her forehead and face before unlocking her seatbelt, her whimpering face up so close to mine, making me bite my lower lips before I took some water in my hand and sprinkled it on her, clinching it a few more times.
I thought it would help her.
However, rather than opening her eyes, she started whimpering even louder, breathing heavily as if she was having trouble inhaling.
I was left with no choice but to shake her violently.
"Valencia! Valencia! Open your eyes!" I shouted at her, using my alpha voice and the girl shrieked, covering her face from me, the carnal fear in her eyes, making my heart ache a little.
I was about to tell her that it was okay and she was just having a nightmare when she unlocked the door and rushed out, puking.
’Just what the hell did she go through?’ Reaper said, and both Aiden and I rushed out of the car to help her.
She stood from her place and could only walk a couple steps before her body swayed.
I quickly held her in my arms. She was shivering.
"Valencia, are you okay?" Aiden asked, and I seriously wanted to smack the guy’s head.
Was she looking anywhere close to okay?
"Save me. It’s coming for me," she whimpered, catching my attention again, and I couldn’t help but pull her even closer and caress her hair.
"Shhh... Nothing is coming for you. I will protect you," I said as she started crying louder.
Seeing how everyone who was passing us was staring at her as she hid her face in my chest, I clenched my teeth.
"Aiden, go open the door of the car. We are taking her to the hospital. I know someone there. She needs proper rest and I don’t think it’s appropriate to take her to a hotel or any of our houses. She might feel even more unsafe," I said, and Aiden nodded in understanding before doing as I told him.
I didn’t want to take her there, but I was left with no choice since Aiden was tailing us.
It wasn’t long before we walked inside the hospital.
I went straight to the VIP section with Valencia still clenching her fists around my shirt when Aiden suddenly stopped walking, making me turn to look at him with quirked brows.
"Sir, can I trust you to take care of her? I need to leave urgently," Aiden said before he dashed away, making me sigh.
I took her to one of my VIP rooms, especially booked for our pack members and any emergencies.
"Alpha," the nurse immediately walked inside to check up on the wolf I brought.
"We don’t need your assistance at the moment. I will call you," I said before locking the door and placing Valencia on the bed.
However, she didn’t let go of me.
It was a weird habit of hers.
Whenever she clings to something, she clings for dear life. It makes me want to rethink every verdict that crosses my mind against her.
Though she acts like a tough woman who doesn’t fear anything and has it all sorted, in reality, she is just a little girl who needs care and love.
Someone, who lacks both of them.
’Just like us,’ Reaper whispered as he looked at the girl.
I took a deep breath. I didn’t have anything to retort with.
My shirt was getting all wrinkled and dirty, and a clean freak like me would’ve already snapped by now, but for some reason, seeing her clinging onto me for dear life, no negative emotion rose in my heart.
When after a few minutes she didn’t let go of me, I signed and took off my shoes before getting on the bed in a way that she was lying on top of me with her head on my chest.
"Calm down, my little kitten. Everything is fine. You are fine," I cooed in her ears before adjusting her on myself.
I closed my eyes to relax a bit.
The alpha meetings, all that paperwork, and the arrangements of the ball along with this University thing were taking a toll on me these days.
I have barely been able to sleep these days, and I won’t lie, but a particular girl was a major reason behind it.
The same girl who was right now lying in my arms.
’Do you know if you hug someone your heart accepts for more than 20 seconds, your body starts to release oxytocin?’ Reaper said out of the blue, and I furrowed my brows.
’Not right now, Reaper. I am tired too. Let me relax,’ I said, and he just shrugged before curling in a ball in the prime space of my head, as if he wanted to feel what I was feeling.
’I was just saying,’ he said.
I fell deep in thoughts.
I didn’t say anything to him this time. Why? Because he might be right. My body was relaxing and calming more rapidly with this girl in my arms than I would like to accept.
Darkness started to take over my mind as I let sleep take over me.
~~~
I didn’t know how long it was, but the stiffness in my muscles was a clear indication that I had been lying like this for a really long time.
I blinked my eyes open and looked at the girl who was sleeping soundly in my arms.
Seeing how my chest was practically on display as she managed to sneak her face under my shirt, I couldn’t help but smirk.
I wonder what her reaction would be if she saw herself like this with her lips plastered on my skin.
With a mischievous grin, I fished out my phone carefully to not wake her up and clicked a photo of her.
This will surely be used later to tease her and have her agree to what I have to say. I nodded at my plan before looking at her again.
It was as if time stopped for a few seconds. She was breathing so softly, her warm breath caressing my skin that it almost felt like she was comforting me rather than herself.
Tucking the loose strand of her hair behind her ears, I quickly closed my eyes when I saw her heartbeat picking its pace, a clear indication that she was waking up.
As much as I liked and wanted to see her reaction the first time she woke up, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to keep a straight face, and thus, it was better to pretend like I didn’t know anything.
