Chapter 37: The angels and the demons

THIRD PERSON’S POV

The lady dressed in a white gown appeared in the ice castle to report whatever happened on Earth.

The ice castle, made up of glass and ice, was one of the hidden castles, whose presence wasn’t even for the witches of the dark or white world.

Different seats with different throne patterns were aligned in long queues on both sides.

"I am back," The lady said, not introducing herself, and as soon as she did that, the queues of thrones started to fill with otherworldly people who had no connection with the Earthlings or the creatures roaming it.

"Well, we can hope you brought some good news," One of the ladies dressed in a red cloak with her half face hidden behind a veiled mask, whispered, her voice soft, but her tone sarcastic enough for the lady to clench her jaws.

The lady didn’t stop and just clicked her fingers, the long net-threaded sheer cloth train of her formal attire cascading across the floor as she moved forward to their ultimate goddess.

"The wolf is reincarnated indeed," the lady stopped before bending on her right knee to pay her ultimate respect, moving her train in front of her with a jerk before throwing it back, letting it dissolve into sparkles.

As soon as she was done paying her respect, the man who was standing on the small staircase with a black crystal wand in his hand, dressed in black from head to toe, slammed the wand on the ice stair as if awakening the deity and looked at the large veil that separated the rest of the hall and people from their ultimate goddess.

Seeing no reaction coming from inside, he was about to dismiss the angel when they saw a small sparkle moving out of the veiled area.

That was their goddess’s way of communication.

The sparkling glitter appeared above the lady in white before it formed a sentence.

"Did she listen?" The sentence was simple.

However, it was enough for the lady to question her credibility and powers. She clenched her jaws in helplessness.

That was the main problem. The girl didn’t listen to her even for a second.

It was hard to decide if she was strong-minded or just foolish. No matter what kind of words she used to mollify the girl to sit and have a little chat, the girl didn’t stop.

"I am sorry, Goddess," The lady bowed in apology.

The lady in white clapped her hands before placing her fingers on her forehead and closing her eyes. She twirled her fingers like she was creating some kind of chakra before she pulled an imaginary string out of her head, letting it flow in the sky.

It was a fragment of her memory.

She wanted to replay what exactly happened during her visit to the girl. It was a ritual to avoid the biased answer from any angel.

The scene was replayed and some of the angels sitting in the queues with their respective throne seats snickered, making the lady look down, a little ashamed.

She clenched her fists on her dress and was about to explain to the goddess that she probably underestimated the girl and went there unprepared, but to their surprise, they heard a soft laugh.

The laugh was so angelic that everyone in the room stood from their places with their eyes wide as tears of happiness brimmed them.

They could feel the happiness in their goddess’s laugh, and a smile appeared on everyone’s face.

After so long, a sparkling form appeared out of the veiled area. There was no face or body in that sparkling form. It was just a floating energy that had taken the form of a body, but somehow everyone knew that this was their Goddess’s Messenger who made her presence known directly.

"We have always been worried about the human who will get her as her 11th reincarnation, but it looks like the wolf got her match," the messenger said in a robotic voice.

And the lady who had been appointed with the task looked at the messenger confused.

In honesty, there was nothing for her to share. She was just asked to go there and talk to that girl and mollify her to sit with her.

The lady was asked to try to feel her wolf and ask the wolf spirit if it was happy with the reincarnation it got, or like all the times it was going to kill this girl too.

"The curse is doing a good job to conceal her. But we will have to keep a lookout on this wolf especially so that it doesn’t go haywire and destroy the world I made. This is her last time if she messes things up this time, I will dissolve her soul into nothingness with my bare hands," the messenger said the words that the goddess wanted to say, and a shiver ran down everyone’s spine.

Dissolving her soul into nothingness? That was one of the worst punishments for anyone.

Most corrupted souls are either trapped or captured and allowed to repent for a few decades or centuries before giving them another chance, but dissolving a soul is the worst of it all.

The last time their goddess tried to dissolve a soul, the person was so corrupted and cunning that they escaped the Matrix and managed to trap themselves in the infinity loop before the goddess could get their hands on it.

Till now, the wolf spirit was allowed to reincarnate 10 times, and every single time, the person didn’t make it further than their 18th birthday because of some unknown reason that only the top-tier angels knew.

It was the pleading of the wolf from the moon goddess directly when she asked for one life that melted the upper-class angel’s heart and secured another reincarnation.

The wolf had a special connection with the moon goddess herself that no one knew about, the reason why the full transformation always ended up in the death of the human it stayed in.

The wolf said it wanted to meet its mate, become a mother, and enjoy life as it was, and the moon goddess felt bad for one of her children who was unable to do either of the things even after being reborn 10 times.

But that untimely death didn’t come with any less destruction. Though the wolf was never at fault, it was the destruction that it brought just by being alive that made things messy.

Every death it was responsible for, became its sin and now the soul was accountable for more than 10000 deaths, the murders that it led to over the course of time.

Yes. That was the truth. The sweet and innocent-looking wolf soul was actually a refined criminal in the eyes of the angels even without any fault, and the worst part was, it always had a justification for its every kill, and thus, every single damn time, it exited the Matrix and won a Reincarnation chance for itself.

The lady on the ground, who was waiting for their goddess’s next task, looked up at the messenger.

"How shall I be of service, my lord?" The lady asked, and the messenger tilted its form to look at the lady.

"Enjoy the journey," The messenger said and the lady froze in place.

The indication was clear and any normal person would have been delighted to follow such obvious instructions, but not the ones who knew the truth behind it.

"Don’t worry about the wolf. For once, I think she will stay under control. I want to trust this human it has bonded with this time. Besides, the wolf is helpless till this curse stays," The messenger said before turning around and leaving.

~~~~~~
In the caves of the Blossom forests, five rogues sat with their leader sitting on top of a large rock.
"What’s the update?" The leader asked, and the rogue shook his head.
"We haven’t been able to get a chance so far," The rogue near the fire gritted before adding more wood to the fire.
"Are you sure about it?" The leader asked, and the man turned around with glaring eyes.
"I lost my brother to that b*tch. I know what I saw. That freaking b*tch turned into a tigress. Do you think I was daydreaming? If the alpha and his team hadn’t interrupted I would’ve led the other team and ended that b*tch then and there," the rogue said, and the leader fell deep in thought.
It wasn’t just that he didn’t believe his men. It was the fact that what his man was talking about was a shapeshifter that troubled him.
The shapeshifters were one of the most vulnerable species with only a few available in the coral regions.
The normal wolves, vampires, and even skinwalkers weren’t allowed to roam the area. According to the mythological legend, they were well protected by demons themselves who vouched for their loyalty to the moon goddess and her creations.
Those sets of demons were the only set of demons who didn’t kill dark creatures or humans for their blood consumption but rather a relief on the blood of herbivore animals.
And he was sure that no demon entered this region. He would’ve known if they had entered.
So how come a shapeshifter ended here? Was it even a shapeshifter in the first place?
"Were you able to manage to get a photo of that girl at least?" The rogue leader asked, but the man shook his head.
"The man who went against my orders and followed the b*tch got shot by the Alpha of the pack. He had a photo that could give us a vague description. However, that’s not the only important thing," The rogue said, and the leader who was lighting his cigar, paused.
He looked at his men to urge him to continue speaking.
"We stole a map from another rogue who was also roaming the forests. Unfortunately, the map was with that man only, but it confirms that there is another set of rogues roaming the forests and these rogues are trying to attack the pack just like us. I think we should collude with them. If our targets collide, we can collaborate," The man said and the rogue took a whiff of his smoke before humming.
"I want that b*tch first. The annual auction isn’t far. Let’s see how much her bones and blood will cost in the black market," the leader said, making the other rogue nod.
