Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 36: A wolf and a Cat?
Chapter 36: A wolf and a Cat?
ALPHA MAVERICK’S POV
"Sir, we have received the intel. These were indeed the rogues who were lurking in the forests for so many days," Shadow walked to me, and I walked to the area where I shot the rogue who was going to shoot Valencia.
I looked at the man’s dead body, his open eyes with the bullet mark in the middle of his forehead, making me press my lips into a thin line.
"That’s not the answer to our question, is it?" I looked at Shadow and Luca, who looked down at their feet before nodding.
"So what are you standing here for? Do I need to spell everything?" I asked before bending and checking the rogue’s pockets.
I pulled out the wallet from his pocket and noticed the money was still there.
Right. How could I forget? I shot him.
Would we have been able to solve this mystery if I hadn’t interrupted at that time?
’Have you lost your mind? If we hadn’t interrupted then the rogue would’ve shot Valencia. What if she had gotten badly hurt? Who would’ve been responsible for it?’ Reaper immediately chimed in.
I looked at the papers in his wallet with a scowl.
’Whose fault would it have been? Of course, it would’ve been the fault of the girl who was roaming the forests at this time of the night. You are acting like I was the one who called her out here to risk her life,’ I said to my wolf before reading the designs on the paper.
It looked like some kind of map.
Wait. It wasn’t just some random map.
This... This spot was where the highway was, and this statue was near the east side of our pack. This was the map of this jungle.
But if that was the truth then what were these spots marked with red? Were these some random spots? Then again, why would the rogue hold this map with any random spots?
I squinted my brows when realization dawned upon me.
These were all the places we had found that uprooted soil, sometimes even finding the dead body of a rogue or two beside it.
’You are acting quite cold for someone who was getting drunk in her scent a few minutes ago.
Have you forgotten how you were this close to losing control and biting into her neck, rubbing your nose in her neck up and down? It was that girl who had some senses, you on the other hand was ready to make her yours the very moment. Did you even know what you were doing?’ Reaper asked, and I gritted my teeth.
I seriously don’t know what was wrong with my wolf. Shouldn’t he be concerned about this matter at hand? He was supposed to be the alpha wolf here and tell me how to investigate a case.
But rather than helping me, he was busy asking me some useless questions about what happened to me in that moment when I almost lost control... I paused.
Now that I think about it, I don’t even know what exactly happened that time.
One moment I was looking into her eyes, teasing her, the next moment I wanted to threaten her, but when the hell did I step forward and start to sniff her?
At least that ink mark on her neck made one thing clear. She was indeed related to that cat. And if my guess was right, it was her who was sending that kitty to our pack again and again.
But why?
No matter how we see that, and no matter how much she trains that cat, there is no way any cat would know which paper to steal from the office.
And if it came down to food, that cat left empty-handed every single time. So what was this exactly all about? Was there something that I was not able to see?
’Now you are thinking about her rather than concentrating on the investigation. But you should agree with me, doesn’t her eyes look like they have seen so much in this world? The kind of eyes worth dying for?’ Reaper asked, and I rolled my eyes at his last sentence.
He was surely exaggerating things a lot more than needed.
"Here, look at this map. Aren’t these all the spots where our people found the uprooted soil? But there was nothing every time we discovered it.
One time the soil smelt like gunpowder, then another time it smelt like some kind of landmines were placed there. But the main question is, how the hell we never found anything?" I asked my people.
This wasn’t something that could be taken lightly.
Judging from all the spots, it was clear that these people had been planning against us for more than a week, which was quite a long time.
But how come every time their plans fail terribly? In fact, we have been looking for these rogues for the entire week, but it’s almost as if someone gets to them before we can.
Someone was undoubtedly helping us. But who was that person? And why?
I sighed and checked the rogue’s other pocket to see if we could find anything worthy.
"It looks like a photo," My beta, Shadow, commented, and I hummed before unfolding the photo, my pupils dilating when I noticed whose photo it was.
It was Valencia’s photo.
Though the photo was taken from a side angle and only her hair and side profile were visible, I could immediately tell that it was her.
In this photo, Valencia was standing near a cafe and sipping something while talking to some guy smiling at her.
This guy, where have I seen this guy? I furrowed my brows.
Yes. This guy belonged to Aiden’s gang team. I saw him last time when Aiden had come.
I thought Valencia didn’t know that Aiden was a part of some gang, but it looks like she was well acquainted with his gang too.
Just what kind of mess she was trying to make in the human world? She acts and moves like she fears nothing in this world.
"But why would the rogue target Valencia?" Shadow asked me, and I took a deep breath.
It means the rogue was indeed planning to shoot Valencia. It was probably not a chance counter. The rogue was probably following her or waiting for her.
It also meant that the rogues had been following the girl. He was probably just one of them.
Didn’t Cole say that he saw many rogues running away and they were on the other side of the lake before our team could do anything? Then again, we weren’t allowed to hunt the rogues in the no man’s land until provoked deliberately.
If we had known that it was a deliberate attack, we would’ve used Valencia’s reference to catch those rogues even in the forbidden zone.
I clenched my jaws before looking at Valencia’s photo.
Her life was in danger and judging from the kind of life she was living without any self-awareness or survival instincts, I could see her getting into big trouble soon.
"Who knows? Haven’t you met her already? She is the kind of person who gets on people’s nerves easily. I am sure she did something to provoke these rogues," I said before stuffing the photo in my pocket.
"Be prepared," I said to Luca who looked at me with a confused expression.
"Prepare for what, sir? Are we going to attack someone?" Luca said, and seeing the beaming hope in his eyes, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes.
No wonder those outsiders say that the people in my pack are weird. Look at my men getting all excited with the idea of attacking someone.
Huh... I don’t even do much. It’s all them because of whom all these nasty rumors about us loving blood baths have spread. I shook my head.
"We are not going for any kind of war. I want you guys to be prepared because from now on, we are also going to keep a lookout on Valencia. If she is the rogue’s target, we can use this opportunity to get to the rogues," I explained the plan.
I looked at my people to know if they had any suggestions, but they nodded in agreement, and I sighed in relief, looking at my hands that were still stained black.
"I don’t like this black ink on my hands. Can you suggest something?" I asked Luca, who shook his head.
I looked at Shadow, who was smirking at me, the only person who knew how I got this ink on my hands.
Why? Because he was the one who had come to my room and seen what that kitty did to it.
"Your room will be ready by tomorrow. We have to have everything changed. Also, we have removed everything that can be used to stain your room anymore.
We all know you are not going to stop that insolent animal from coming to your room," Shadow said, and for some reason, I didn’t like the way he was calling that cute kitty an animal as if disrespecting her.
A low snarl left my mouth that even shocked me.
"You better watch your mouth when you talk about her. Your alpha likes her," Reaper said, and the man immediately bowed in submission, making me roll my eyes.
"Sorry, Alpha," Shadow muttered.
My wolf was really losing his mind these days.
A wolf and a cat? Seriously?
"Hey! Why would you give me that weird image!" Reaper growled in my head, and I shuddered in my place.
I know, right? Why the hell did I even think of it?
Something was wrong with my head too.
And I am sure it was about something that starts with the letter V which was messing with my head.
