Chapter 363: The devil’s attack
THIRD PERSON’S POV
Valencia looked at Maverick with furrowed brows, waiting for him to say something.
However, when he didn’t say a word, she was about to ask him what he was talking about when he got on his knees and pulled a box from his pocket.
Valencia widened her eyes as she looked at Maverick in utter shock.
Was he really doing this before so many people? There were more than 500 people at the venue from all across the world and species even when more than half of their pack was at the borders to keep the place secure from any mishaps along with the council members.
"Valencia Phoenix, the Luna of the Dark Callisto Pack, will you give me the honor to call you my wife for the rest of our lives? Will you give me the opportunity to love and care for you till I am alive? Will you marry me?" Maverick asked.
Valencia stood frozen in her spot, observing the genuine happiness in Maverick’s eyes.
"Say yes! Say yes! Say yes!" People started to chant, the crowd’s collective voice almost deafening.
Valencia gulped, unable to form coherent words.
Seeing her hesitating, everyone wondered if she didn’t want to say yes, and doubt started to appear on Maverick’s face.
He knew she loved him too much and was ready for the marriage. Could it be that the sudden proposal and so many people were making her nervous?
He was about to stand from his place to comfort his woman when to his surprise, Valencia got on her knees and pulled out a box from the pocket of her cardigan.
Maverick’s eyes widened when he realized what she was doing.
"No way," he whispered.
"What? Only you can think of proposing?" Valencia asked as she opened the ring box, the ring that she had designed herself, making everyone holler in surprise and happiness.
"Alpha Maverick of the Dark Callisto pack, the father of my child, will you give me the honor of being called your wife and calling you mine for the rest of my life?" Valencia asked.
Maverick gulped.
Seeing the alpha and Luna on their knees before each other in such a romantic and picturesque scene, everyone hollered in surprise.
"This is good. You guys can exchange the rings today!" Lycan Veronica said, and Valencia smiled at Maverick.
"Yes,"
"Yes,"
Both of them said at the same time.
Valencia extended her hand first because Maverick beat her to it and proposed to her first.
Seeing the large greyish-blue stone with the amazing design, Valencia smiled and put the ring with a crystal blue diamond on Maverick’s finger, making the guy smile.
"Alpha Maverick, you really won at life. Such a strong, beautiful, and loving Luna you have got," The king of the shapeshifters said as people started to step ahead one by one to bless the couple and give their congratulatory gifts to them.
They had brought gifts primarily for Valencia since it was their Luna ceremony, but who would have thought it would end up being an engagement?
"I know, right?" Maverick smiled.
The King of the Shapeshifters and Aiden were about to give the gift to Valencia when Valencia stumbled back, her pupils dilated and her body stiff.
"Valencia, what’s wrong?" Maverick quickly held her.
Valencia gulped, her heart skipping a beat before thumping loudly against her chest.
"He is here. The devil is here," Valencia said.
It was just one sentence, but that sentence was enough to rob everyone of the smiles they were wearing.
Her words immediately alerted everyone around them, and it wasn’t long before the sound of a blast echoed in the pack.
The people froze before the screams echoed in the environment. Valencia looked at all the people starting to run here and there, the sounds of children crying and screaming deafening her ears.
Just a few seconds ago, the venue was full of laughter and happiness; now, people were running and preparing for war.
Just like she had said, with happiness, tragedy follows them, which doesn’t even give them enough time to celebrate.
"Don’t worry, Valencia. I will protect you," Maverick said when he saw raw worry and fear in her eyes.
Valencia looked at the man and smiled bitterly.
She thought she still had three days to live happily and enjoy their presence, but the time was already here. The time for war was here.
She looked at the Western borders, where the devil entered the pack and his army of people from different species.
"I hope I didn’t miss too much," The devil, Artemis Raqtasura, said, his lecherous eyes looking straight at Valencia, making the girl tremble in her place.
Valencia stayed back, looking at the people on their side standing forth to fight back the devil and his team that had appeared before the designated time of the war.
She watched the angels and the witches appearing one by one, covering the area.
The place that was adorned with flowers and balloons earlier was now burning from evil and fire, and her fists clenched as her hand went to her abdomen instinctively.
They had wanted to hold the Luna ceremony long ago, but the angels suggested holding it near the full moon later because the devil would be weaker on the full moon and in the nearby days. They were afraid the devil would try to attack the event day and turn their happiness into sadness, which is precisely what the devil thrives on: pain and fear of others.
This way, on the occasion of the ceremony, they will at least be able to gather the people from different species and ensure they have their support.
Just like they had guessed, the devil indeed appeared to cast an evil eye on her happiness.
Everything was ready. The people who arrived from different species were prepared to fight back against the devil and its army, but they had forgotten something.
The weapon to kill the devil wasn’t with them.
It was still in the Aravalli ranges, and with the banished fallen angels who couldn’t leave their place, who would bring the weapon from there?
Valencia’s eyes brimmed with tears as she saw one of the ladies wrapping her hands around her little daughter to protect her from the evil people.
She had been standing behind earlier, trying to understand what was happening, while the others had already seized the opportunity and started fighting the devil’s army.
It wasn’t easy. Valencia could see it.
Their hollow eyes, void of compassion and sympathy for their own loved ones, were enough to frighten someone.
Everything was turning into a mess because of her once again because it was her the devil was after.
