Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 360: The brothers reconciled
Chapter 360: The brothers reconciled
THIRD PERSON’S POV
"Where were you? Is everything alright? You left the dining room immediately after eating," Valencia asked, her brows knitted in confusion.
Maverick walked to her before kissing her forehead, knowing how easily she gets worried because of her pregnancy hormones.
"I am fine, baby. Everything is alright. I went out to receive the call from the Lycans. They heard about your pregnancy and have decided to shift here until the time of your war with the devil. They said as the protectors of the werewolf community, they shall support us," Maverick explained.
Valencia hummed in response before asking him when they’d arrive, sighing in relief when Maverick said they’d arrive after two days.
"I called Jason, and he said he had found the remaining members of the Phoenix blood pack. He has called me to meet them tomorrow. Can you arrange for my departure?" Valencia asked Maverick.
The man walked to the kitchen and warmed some milk for Valencia before turning to her briefly.
"What makes you think I’ll let you go there alone? I will come with you," Maverick said as he brought the milk for Valencia.
"Mav—" the girl opened her mouth to complain, but faced with his stern gaze, she sighed dejectedly before taking the glass of milk in her hand and drinking it.
She was about to take a sip when Lovely walked inside the house with the documents she had asked her to print.
"Luna, here are the documents," Lovely said.
Maverick looked at the file with raised brows, not asking her what it was.
He believed she would tell him everything herself, and as he had guessed, Valencia turned to him with a hopeful expression.
"What are these documents for, Luna?" Shadow asked.
Valencia licked her lips. She knew Maverick didn’t even like his brother’s name being mentioned.
He would surely be angry if he said she was trying to discover the truth about his brother. And that was why she kept it hidden from him for so long. But now that she knew Alfonso was innocent and had proof to support her theory, she wondered how to tell Maverick everything.
"Mav, I have something to tell you," Valencia said hesitantly, and the alpha nodded.
"Go ahead, I am all ears," He said.
Valencia looked at Shadow and Lovely.
Seeing Luna looking at them like this, they were about to leave when Valencia stopped them.
The pack members would know sooner or later. Besides, she was sure Maverick wouldn’t lose control over her no matter what.
Thus, after taking a deep breath, she opened the file and placed it before him.
"Please hear me out before getting angry. Okay?" Valencia whispered, and Maverick hummed, not liking the tone she was using.
Maverick walked ahead and looked at the file. The picture of his brother glared back at him, and his anger immediately flared.
However, he looked at Valencia’s hopeful eyes and breathed deeply to calm himself.
"Are you sure you want to talk about this?" Maverick asked.
Valencia nodded before telling him that she had always believed Alfonso was innocent. She had met him before she met Maverick, and he had saved her life.
That was why she had asked today to keep looking into the facts to prove his innocence.
After Glacier died and his rogues were caught recently, she asked her subordinates if they knew anything. As she had guessed, there was evidence that Alfonso was innocent.
Maverick froze in his place.
The more he heard Valencia speaking about it, the more unsure he felt about things.
He grabbed the file in his hand, turning the pages one by one as he took in the information.
He read everything carefully.
The words written, the photos posted, the timeline of the attack, how it was planned, who planned it with, how many people were informed, who was the prime target, and what motivated the attack—he read everything, his head a complete mess.
Does that mean he has been blaming the wrong person all the time?
But why did his brother never try to prove his innocence?
He remembered those mainland witches’ advice that sometimes things are deeper than they seem and that not everything we see is the truth, and he couldn’t help but feel like the dumbest person.
"It was all because of me. They attacked the pack and killed my parents because they wanted to take me down. Not only my parents died, but my brother has been living this kind of life all because of me," Maverick fell on his knees, and Valencia’s heart ached for him.
She knew the man would be broken after learning the truth.
"Maverick, you are heartbroken, but it’s not your fault. Things were portrayed to you like this. Now you believe that your brother has always been innocent, right? Why don’t you go and free him now?" Valencia reminded him.
The man widened his eyes before standing quickly.
"You are right. I should free him. What am I doing wailing like this when I should be with him?" Maverick immediately ordered the dungeon’s guard to open his brother’s cell as he rushed to the dungeon.
Valencia was about to walk ahead when she felt her head become a bit dizzy, and she stumbled on her foot.
"Luna, are you okay?" Lovely held her hand, and the girl smiled in return.
"I am fine. I think I need some rest. Don’t worry about it. I’ll return once I meet Alfonso. It’s a big day for the pack. I don’t want to miss it," Valencia said, and Lovely smiled in understanding before helping her to the dungeons.
Inside the dungeons, as soon as Maverick reached the cell in which Alfonso was locked, he looked at his confused brother and felt remorse taking over.
On the other hand, Alfonso didn’t know what was happening and why Maverick looked at him like he was about to cry, so he felt his heartbeat increase.
Could it be that Maverick was missing their parents now that he was about to become a father and was here to take his anger out on him as he still thinks he was the reason they died?
The thought made Alfonso step back.
However, what happened next left him speechless.
Maverick knelt before Alfonso, placing his head on the ground.
"I am sorry, brother," Maverick’s voice quivered, and Alfonso’s heart trembled.
Brother? Did his little brother really call him brother after seven long years?
Tears brimmed Alfonso’s eyes as he looked at Valencia, who just entered the cell.
Seeing the comforting expression on Valencia’s face, Alfonso finally realized that his innocence was probably proven, and a sob left his mouth.
"Oh, moon goddess." Alfonso turned around and placed his forehead on the cell wall, crying silently.
It took him seven years to finally hear this endearing name from his brother and to realize the truth.
It wasn’t like he didn’t try. He had lived a rogue life and neared Glacier for the same reason, to find the truth, but the guy made him a prisoner and tortured him from time to time.
But the truth was supposed to come out sooner or later.
Seeing his brother bellow in guilt, Alfonso wiped his tears before stepping ahead and placing his hand on Maverick’s shoulders.
His hands trembled since the feeling was almost foreign to him after so many years.
"Don’t, Maverick. Don’t apologize. It’s not your fault alone. Please don’t cry. You will always be my little brother. Nothing could’ve changed it. I never blamed you, Maverick. Things were presented to you like that," Alfonso said, patting Maverick’s back like an elder.
However, after finally feeling that familial care from someone, Maverick couldn’t help but hug his brother before he cried.
He cried like he had never cried before, the suppressed emotions from the past finally coming in waves of tears and sadness as he held onto his elder brother.
Seeing his little brother’s walls crumble as he surrendered himself to him, Alfonso felt an indescribable sense of comfort and relief.
He looked up at Valencia, who had tears in her eyes, and thanked her mentally, making the girl smile at them.
The pack members and guards had left long ago to give their alpha some privacy, and Valencia was about to leave when Maverick finally let go of his brother and turned to her, hugging her tight.
"Thank you so much for never losing hope in my brother and doing something that I should’ve done. It’s all because of you," Maverick said to the girl, who smiled.
"Am I not part of this family? It was my duty to prove his innocence because I heard his story before I heard yours and saw the truth in his eyes. You are my mate and my alpha. As your Luna, I must stop and correct you if you make any rash decisions and thus, I knew I had uncovered the truth myself," Valencia said and Maverick nodded.
