Chapter 359: The truth behind the attack

THIRD PERSON’S POV

After eating her food, Valencia dialed Tory’s number to find out if he could get some information from the rogues. It was more important for her than finding the members of the Phoenix blood pack.

As much as she yearned to meet the pack members who belonged to her and the members who were supposed to be her half-family, they lived comfortably in their places.

But Alfonso, on the other side, was in prison, living his life in hatred of Maverick, his only family member who was alive.

Besides, the fact that an innocent person was imprisoned and had his hopes in her because she was constantly telling him she would get him out of there made it even more urgent to know about his matters first.

"Hello," Tory’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts, and she pressed her lips into a thin line.

"It’s me. Have you found out anything?" She asked, crossing her fingers as she prayed for a positive reply.

She waited for a couple of seconds before Tory finally spoke.

"Indeed. Glacier planned the attack, directed by none other than Prince Ethan and his well-wishers, along with Cordelia, who was promised the Dark Callisto pack," Tory said.

Valencia’s pupils dilated.

She had wondered if Ethan was behind this attack, too, because after Axile, the only person who could put his throne in jeopardy was Alpha Maverick. However, she didn’t know it was so well planned.

"Wait. If Cordelia was promised the pack, why did she run away after blaming Alfonso? She could have easily stood by Maverick and ruled the pack," Valencia asked Tory.

Tory hummed and told her he had asked those rogues the same question. They told him how Cordelia had become greedier for power at the last moment. Thus, rather than killing the entire family, she left Maverick and Alfonso, pinning the blame on the elder brother so they would never reconcile.

She was aiming for the throne of the queen.

After that night, she had gone to meet Ethan and struck a deal with him about making her the queen because she had all the capabilities. She even dared to threaten Ethan that she would reveal the truth to Maverick if he didn’t relent.

It was Glacier who protected Cordelia at that time because he was banging her, or Ethan would’ve killed her that time itself.

She returned after seven years, right after Maverick captured Alfonso, to make Maverick miserable and again strike her chance at securing the deal to become the queen.

This time, Glacier backed her. He wanted to keep seeing Maverick miserable and hold something against the royals just in case they turned their backs on him.

However, who would’ve thought that Alpha Maverick would kill Cordelia because of what she did to Valencia?

The girl was gambling quite big, taking down so many hot shots in the werewolf community, and she was bound to have it work against her sooner or later.

"Also, I know you want to prove the facts to Maverick, and you will need solid proof. The rogue has agreed to testify the statements, and I am sending you some documents," Tory said.

Valencia raised her brows.

"Documents?" She asked, and Tory hummed in response.

"The rogues gave me an address where they said the documents of previous attacks were. Since Glacier is not in the picture anymore, the place is vacant, and we got our hands on it easily," He said, and Valencia looked at the files she received.

"Okay. I’ll talk to you later," Valencia was about to end the call when Tory reminded her to talk to Jason because he wanted to speak to her about something.

"I will," she said, ending the call and immediately forwarding the documents to Lovely to be printed without letting Alpha Maverick know.

"Luna, what do the files contain?" Lovely asked. Valencia then asked her to send the files to her as soon as they were printed without peeking into them, and she would reward her.

After talking to Lovely, Valencia closed her eyes, thinking about everything happening around her.

Things were starting to fall into place, but why did it feel like the happiness was slipping away from her hands simultaneously?

While she was happy for Alfonso because she would be able to prove his innocence after seven years of him living like a rogue and betrayer, how could she feel anything when her mind was reminding her about what those angels said?

Valencia pulled her knees close to her chest, hugging herself as she sat with her head on her knees.

Only twenty-six days. How was she able to live her life to its fullest these days? While for some it was just a battle thing, she knew the truth that she might end up losing her life at that time.

’Don’t think negatively, Valencia," Aurora said, and Valencia smiled.

"I am not thinking negatively, Aurora. I am thinking practically. Can you give me a hundred percent assurance that we will make it out alive?" Valencia asked.

Aurora went silent, and the girl couldn’t help but sigh.

That was exactly what she knew was going to happen.

Hearing the other ping sound from her phone, Valencia snapped out of her thoughts and remembered that she needed to call Jason, as everyone had told her.

Alpha Maverick had already told her what Theo wanted to discuss, and honestly, she didn’t even want to hear Matilda’s name, let alone decide anything related to her.

She was on the verge of killing her. It was all because of the baby in her womb that Valencia was hesitating.

Dialing Jason’s number, Valencia waited for him to pick up as she placed her hand over her womb.

"Are you scared, baby? Don’t worry. Mommy will do everything in her power to protect you," Valencia told her baby, taking a deep breath.

Even if she will have to ask the witches to perform the darkest and most evil form of ritual to have her baby survive even after her death, she will do that.

This baby was the only thing she could offer Maverick as compensation for having such an ill-fated mate.

It wasn’t Maverick’s fault that she turned into her wolf form or was cursed. He was bearing the responsibility of having such a cursed mate and still loving her.

Doing everything in her power to have the baby survive this world was the last and only thing she could do for him.

Valencia dialed the number three times and placed the phone aside when no one picked it up.

She was about to leave her place to drink water when her phone vibrated, and she immediately picked it up.

"Hey, you wanted to talk to me about something?" Valencia asked.

"Yeah... it’s just that you have been trying to find the phoenix blood pack for a long time, and it was about time I told you the truth," Jason said.

Valencia furrowed her brows.

Tell her the truth? What is the truth? Was there something going on that she had no idea about?

"What is it?" She asked warily.

Jason hesitated, looking at the girl beside him. She touched him to comfort him, and he sighed before nodding.

"I found the members of the Phoenix blood pack long ago," Jason said.

His choice of words confused Valencia.

That was it? Had he found the pack members long ago? Was that the only truth?

"Is that so? I am sure you had reason to keep the truth hidden from me. Besides, I was surrounded by so many problems. It’s a good thing that you kept the truth from me for so long, or I wouldn’t have been able to meet them wholeheartedly without other things on my mind," Valencia comforted the man.

Jason felt a little guilty when he heard Valencia speak of pure belief. She didn’t once doubt his intentions.

How could he hide the truth from her for so long?

"Well, the members, are they ready to meet me? Have you told them about me?" Valencia asked with hope, Jason’s eyes brimmed with tears.

"They are eager to meet you, Valencia. They had always wanted to meet you, the daughter of their Alpha and Luna, who sacrificed themselves not only for you but also to save the pack members," Jason said.

Valencia smiled before taking a deep breath.

"When can I come to meet them?" She asked.

Jason told her she could come the other day, and Valencia nodded immediately.

"I will be there," She said before ending the call.

It was a good thing. Even if she won’t be able to create a pack with them, she will at least get to know them for once and probably hear their stories about her mother and father.

Tears brimmed her eyes as she looked at the photo of her mother and father in her gallery that she got from Jonathan.

"Would I have made a good Luna if I had gotten the pack?" Valencia asked no one in particular.

"You would’ve made the best Luna this world has known,"

She heard a voice and turned to look at Shadow and Maverick who entered the house.

Surprisingly, those words weren’t said by Maverick but Shadow, and she smiled in appreciation.
