Chapter 358: Only twenty six days

THIRD PERSON’S POV

"Hey, hey, Valencia, my love, no one is taking your baby away from you. Calm down," Maverick said as he looked at Valencia, who was crying in her sleep, screaming for help, and asking someone not to take her baby away.

He looked at the angels, who appeared in the room just in time. They placed their hands on the baby inside her womb to ensure its safety.

"Keep trying to wake her up. It’s important for her to become conscious if we want to protect the baby," Alisha explained, and Maverick nodded as he struggled to wake Valencia.

He was tempted to take the water from the jug and splash it on her face, but he didn’t know if that would interfere with the magic the angels were performing to protect their baby.

"Keep shaking her," Kelly said. Maverick nodded and pulled her close to his heart so she could hear his heartbeat and open her eyes.

"It’s happening. Keep trying," Kelly said encouragingly, and Maverick nodded.

"Valencia, baby, open your eyes. You need to open your eyes to keep our baby safe. How will you protect the baby if you are asleep yourself? Please wake up. " Maverick took a different approach, and this time, Valencia opened her eyes.

The devil’s possession and power over the body snapped, and the angels sighed in relief.

Seeing her eyes brimmed with tears that rolled down the corner of her eyes, Maverick pulled her in for a hug.

It was all his fault. He shouldn’t have left her unattended even when he knew she was constantly having nightmares about what the devil would do to their kid.

She told him she had been seeing him in Tyler’s face, which was why she had slipped into the royal hall. Yet, he left her alone. It was all his fault.

Seeing Maverick blaming himself mentally, Kelly sighed and placed her hand on Valencia’s hand to grab the couple’s attention.

"Stop blaming yourself for something that isn’t your fault. Neither you nor Alpha Maverick are at fault. It’s the devil’s fault," Kelly said.

Feeling much calmer than before, Valencia supported herself as she looked at Alisha and Kelly, who came in time to protect her baby.

She expressed her gratitude and apologized for all the times she cursed them by calling them useless whenever she needed their support.

When the witches and the angels told her it was fine, as anyone was bound to react like that, even losing their sanity, considering everything she had gone through, she hummed before asking them what was happening.

"Will the devil kill my child?" Valencia asked.

Kelly looked at Alisha, who sighed.

"I would like to be frank with you guys. Valencia could go through the transformation and come out alive because of the child in her womb. Similarly, the reason she has almost crossed the gaps between her and the devil in terms of power by leaps is this baby," Alisha’s words made the couple freeze.

They didn’t need her to explain anymore.

The truth was right before then.

The kid was an abomination for the devil because it increased Valencia’s strength by allowing her wolf inside to gather her powers, indirectly making her more substantial and a worthy opponent for the devil.

Thus, he needed this kid out of his path to ensure his long and healthy life.

"What am I supposed to do in this case? Should I prevent sleeping since that’s when he attacks most of the time?" Valencia asked, and the angels sighed.

"If you prevent yourself from sleep and proper rest, it will affect the baby either way," Alisha said before she pulled out what looked like an amulet from her magical wand.

"If you want to do something, you need to tie this amulet on your abdomen. This will ensure the kid’s safety in your sleep and while you’re awake...." Alisha trailed off.

"While she is awake?" Maverick asked.

Kelly stepped ahead to speak this time.

"As my senior said, the time to fight the devil is here. Everything has been fast-forwarded now because of the sudden changes. It would be better if Valencia decided sooner, and we strike first. If the devil brought his army to the battlefield, it would turn into an interspecies war and carry on for years, and I am sure none of us want that," Kelly said.

Valencia gulped.

It was one thing after the other.

Whenever she feels happiness has finally knocked on their door, something like this has to happen at the last moment, rendering them unable to celebrate.

"What are you thinking about?" Alisha asked Valencia as she looked at her thoughtful expression.

Valencia looked at the angel before looking at Maverick.

"I am wondering if I am ready to kill the devil because I don’t feel like I am. Even if I pacify myself to kill the devil, how will we find him alone? Is he even approachable? The devil wouldn’t be stupid enough to let me come close to him with the weapon to kill him in my hand," Valencia said.

Her words made sense, and Maverick looked at the angels for answers.

Kelly smiled.

"All you need to do is rest and strengthen yourself. We will take you to the devil on the next full moon, 26 days away," Alisha said.

26 days? Valencia’s eyes widened, and she gulped before looking at Maverick.

"You still didn’t tell me what I will have to do to keep my baby safe when I am awake," Valencia asked.

"You don’t need to worry about that. We will keep an eye on you for the time being. Also, since you are the mortals here, I think you should hold an interspecies meeting to address the army the devil is building. We will take you there in twenty-six days, but the devil has gone haywire after hearing about the pregnancy. What if he attacks before that?" Kelly asked.

Valencia and Maverick nodded in understanding as the angels and witches left one by one, leaving them alone, deep in thought.

"I only have 26 days," Valencia whispered, her sad words making Mavericks’ hearts flutter.

The thought of letting his woman face such danger was beyond him, but it wasn’t like he had a choice or say in the matter either.

Maverick pulled Valencia into a tight hug. Knowing how much she needed it, the girl immediately broke into his arms.

"Only twenty-six days, Maverick," Valencia cried while Maverick caressed her back.

After what felt like an eternity but was only a few minutes, Valencia finally calmed down and told him she was alright.

Maverick immediately asked Lovely to arrange their food on the dining table.

"Freshen up and come down to eat something, okay? Theo called, and he wanted to talk about something. We will discuss it over food," Maverick said, and Valencia hummed.
